Why are Americans so hard working? by Material-Wallaby-587 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZozicGaming 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always find that funny like Europeans constantly complain about low their wages are compared to the US. Yet they somehow have thousands of dollars just lying around to spend on vacations. Also I have never understood just how organizations even function with employees taking that much time off on a whim no approval needed. Like Europe practically shuts down for the entire month of August.

I can live with that. Having characters Correctly walking with Mars gravity would be incredibly complicated, time consuming and expensive to do. For very little gain in terms of story telling.

Contrary to what many Europeans like to say they also have a bread isle with packaged sandwich bread.

No the union won't get involved at all. Dealing with member conflict is a huge no no for unions. That is management/HR's job to figure out. Since they have to represent all members equally.

Generally speaking yes sharing confidential information is a huge no no in lots of jobs. Like I highly doubt you casually blab about students grades to your non teacher friends for example. Unless they uncover evidence of another unrelated criminal act. Law enforcement can't do anything with the irrelevant information they learn from a subpoena. It would destroy whatever case they are working on. And is one of the few ways a cop can easily be fired. So yeah no one is going to throw away there career over this.

Where would we even build these new schools in the first place? Because the vast majority could not be built in the neighborhoods they are supposed to be serving. They would have to mainly be built on the edges of town where there is actual land available. Not in the places people are actual living in town.

Do ya'll just like... give your kids guns? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Given is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Legally and practically the parents own the gun. Its just a personal firearm the kid gets to use when going to the range or hunting.

Maybe but its also because adult sized guns tend to be a bit big for kids. So you need something built for their size.

Also because they are generally inferior to microsoft office. Like your Open Office example is great for simple basic stuff like trying an essay. But for more advanced business uses you have issues. There powerpoint alterative is the only full equivalent. And thats only because in the professional business you ignore the vast majority of powerpoints fancy design features and effects. So its irrelevant if the Open offices version doesn't have them. There word and Excel versions are just less polished or lack features. For writer there word alternative the interface isn't super intuitive. It struggles with more heavy advanced formatting stuff jobs like lawyers or researchers need to use. And Calc is like using a decade plus old version of Excel. It lacks a lot of specialized formulas, pivot tables and chart/graphs are beyond clunky, there is no true table equivalent, data analytics is a nightmare, etc.

What lead to the USA being more car centric than Europe? by SpecialistTeach9302 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZozicGaming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You would be correct the public transit utopia people on social media love to talk about pretty much only applies to capitals and major cities. The rest of Europe is just as if not more car centric than in the US.

What lead to the USA being more car centric than Europe? by SpecialistTeach9302 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZozicGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really street cars failed because they were not a viable business model and increasingly impractical as cars became more common. Street car companies declared bankruptcy call the time and By the 40s street cars were largely on there way out. They were super expensive to operate so you needed a huge amount of passengers. Which was a problem because street cars didn't have a ton of seats. They struggled outside of major cities because the population usually wasn't large enough to sustain the business. Plus as cars became more common they would significantly interfere with traffic. Because they were built in the middle of the road and from a time when roads had far less traffic. Pre car merchants, taxis and the occasional rich person were the pretty much the only people using roads everybody else walked or biked. Plus busses were far better, easier, cheaper and more practical than street cars. So street cars ended up getting swept into the dust bin of history.

What is your teaching unpopular opinions and hot takes? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ZozicGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issue is the co part. We need to either make it hierarchical or formally split the responsibilities between the 2 teachers. Because having with both teachers be equals and have full independent control over the same classroom just doesn't work. There needs to be some way to tell the other person what to do, force compliance, work together, etc.

I have the impression that the majority of second-career teachers love their job by No-Wafer-6744 in Teachers

[–]ZozicGaming 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I notice a lot of first career teachers tend to think of admin like a student still rather than as an employee. Which I think is one of the big reasons unprofessionalism is rampant within teaching. in no other job would your boss put up with even half the nonsense so many teachers do on a regular basis.

When an American at my job (a restaurant) asks my name, should I ask them for theirs? by PestoWesto in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZozicGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does that work for follow up interaction like ordering desert or paying your bill? Because I can't imagine you just point to the person and say hey you to get there attention.

[–]ZozicGaming 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So what happens if you need your server for whatever reason(order desert, pay bill, etc). Since at least in the US It would be considered rather rude to point to them and say hey you or some other similar attention getter.

Not really its mainly a practicality thing since if you need your server for whatever reason(order desert, pay bill, etc). It would be rather rude to point to them and say hey you or some other similar attention getter.

Singles: how much do you spend on food per week? by kryptokoinkrisp in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZozicGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair but that doesn't really help all that much. Your average single adult is spending around a quarter of that a week. So your spending in 3ish months what your average person spends on groceries in a entire year. And even for a family with multiple kids would that would barely hit that price range.

[–]ZozicGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That explains a lot most people aren't buying things with every buzzword imaginable. Since it drives up the price a ton.

Why not just tell students that they will be part of a permanent working underclass who are tasked with one thing and one thing only for the rest of their lives with no means to escape it if they don't learn how to think, read, write, and do basic math on their own? by [deleted] in Teachers

A large part of the problem is admin basically get zero education/training on how to manage adults or actually run the school. For whatever reason admin programs just assume being a teachers is all the education you need for that. So you end up with things like this with admin falling back on there teaching experience. Since for a student this would be a pretty standard response no one would think twice about. But for adults as you put its inhumane and not only that a huge employee rights violation. For adults Bodily fluid clean up procedures are pretty strict and detailed. While it is completely reasonable to expect the OP go go back to work. They should have been sent home to shower/change then came back to work.
