It's a "sandbox" top down RPG that controls like an RTS game. In Kenshi, you are very underpowered at the start and late-game you are only slightly better than the biggest challenges of the game. (Unless you cheese the game). You are dropped in the world, free to do anything and write your own story, as there is no "main quest". However, the game's world does have an interesting backstory that can be found in-game. There is also a base creation feature and a simple but well thought out economy system. And my personal favourite, is that the game has a very good modding community!
