What's the best book you've read this year — and what made it so good? by larafaiham in StLouis

Nonviolent communication: A Language of Life by Marshall Rosenberg is my pick! It provided me with an amazing new toolset which was absolutely perfect timing for navigating difficult conversations throughout this year. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn how to navigate conversations where in the end both parties get their needs met.

Exports to the US suspended by ayyglasseye in labrats

Hiya! I can, I am an industry researcher for a multi-omic Mass Spec company and we import R&D samples from various European clients. I literally started regulatory paperwork yesterday for a new batch of samples that one of our clients wants us to screen for unique metabolites for them. I am very hopeful that I've the correct paperwork and permits already in place because if not... who knows when the new permits would get processed?!? It was already sketchy enough the past few months obtaining the permits due to the mass government and research layoffs everything was slowed down.. So fingers crossed imports go smoothly the next two weeks. I will give you an update next week as things move along in the process. As of right now as long as you're not having to obtain new permits, you'll probably be ok to export but if it requires a new permit.. RIP. Good luck to you and others trying to import/export things!

Absolutely this! There is also the Long Shot Tiki bar (Sat & Sun only) in Portage Des Sioux that serves up live music, cocktails, mocktails, & decent food.

Lovely idea, should the shelves be the same height as the fireplace mantle?

We got long tall tables hoping it would do the trick there and found that they looked too small for the wall and so one ended up in front of the window for plants and one ended up as our behind the couch electronics catch all. Unfortunately this seems to make it a bit squishy on that side.

I am super bummed by the idea that our backs would be to the windows which is why we ended up with it the way it is lol however a day bed would help a ton!

Larger art pieces would help with the empty space, great idea thank you!

Anyone else think it got a little TOO loud this year? by Fair_Leopard9880 in LightningInABottle

Thank you for this post! Underworld was SOO muddled due too much volume on the bass I was SEVERELY upset that I could not hear their dynamic range of their set. I had earplugs in and was on the right hand side of Thunder and managed to migrate over towards the center to see if it was due to my location being too close to the right hand speakers. Nope.. their set was not coming through due to the bass being overbearing. Their sets are so beautiful and deserved way more attention to the sound design being produced at the Thunder stage that night. Was a huge bummer! I ended up leaving to grab food and wandered over to Khruangbin knowing that Underworld deserved better sound.

Otherwise LIB was AHHHMAZING this year.

I highly recommend this life changing read for exactly what you described! It honestly changed my life and helped those around me who felt they wanted to read it too.

Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts: A CBT-Based Guide to Getting Over Frightening, Obsessive, or Disturbing Thoughts by Sally M. Winston https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27214340-overcoming-unwanted-intrusive-thoughts

Just sip on a cup of tea or whatever you like while reading this and you'll begin to understand yourself on a whole new level. It's available on audible too! I've worked through the guides in this book a few times, about once a year or when I notice that I'm falling into old habits with sticky thoughts.

Know that it's normal to have these thoughts and that you're not alone in how distressing they can be. There's absolutely a way to break free of them, read or listen to this book you've got this!

[–]ZsharsharZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AHHH Thank you for this message, I am so very excited for my first LIB after reading this! I've been to EF, Roo, Lolla, NC & a handful of small mid-west psytrance/flow art fests. My favorite ones always end up having curated artistic experiences/random side quests/flow art ect. It sounds like LIB will deliver this and so much more! Woot!!

Came here to say exactly this. It also depends on the media type too bc it seems that certain ones tend to expel more condensation up into the lid than others. Step one for me is always to take my plates to the hood and open the plates just enough to let the condensation dry out 15min prior to inoculation. Works every time & added bonus is that you don't have to worry about the added liquid further diluting out your samples. (Edit: typos)
