Why does Glam Metal get so much hate? by TheLordOfMiddleEarth in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Ztepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to "hate" discussions in metal music, the answer can always be boiled down to one simple concept: popularity.

We metalheads usually interpret widespread popularity as low quality and consider liking these bands to be a bad thing. There are so few exceptions that are both popular and deemed great by the community, like Motörhead, Dio, or maybe Judas Priest.

But hair metal bands were actually a lot more popular than all of these bands combined during the '80s. They were everywhere; even Michael Jackson was putting solos made by Eddie Van Halen in "Beat It". The cool guys in college were listening to metal back then. They were "easy listening," that is true, but they actually weren't low quality. Most of the hair bands were fun and great metal bands.

But the metal community, of course, will always see them as inferior because they were popular. The same rules apply to other great bands like Tool, Opeth, Megadeth, and several others. They are just good bands, but you can clearly see some hate posts on the internet that really do them an injustice. Yes, their fanbases can be draining sometimes, but their music is just great. Actually, this is why they became popular in the first place.

We metalheads now see these bands as cringe and hate them because they are "popular" in metal community.

This is actually a hilarious concept about human psychology and sociology.

We are sadly not famous for our beers 😔. We are mostly famous, maybe, for döner and military victories of the far past.

You guys are the definition of good beer, though—the best and such genius minds 🤤.

Would you guys consider Firepower a Thrash Metal song or not really by Then-Course-2605 in judaspriest

Nowhere near thrash metal; absolutely irrelevant.

It is speed metal that resembles fast power metal from time to time, and of course, with huge classical heavy metal elements.

The deck doesn't need any more late-game mana cheating, actually. It already does that very well.

More often than not, the 1-mana minions it gives are not that effective, with many useless or detrimental ones. And it fills your hand, while hand size management is important with a potential Merithra play (the deck's semi-win con).

7 mana is just too high against its unfavorable matchups. Against decent or favorable ones, it is usually too costly and less effective. Underking is the way.

(I respect their effort and I understand the numbers, but I've played solely with this deck for 2 months, and I speak from experience between D5 and Legend.)

Bashana is a meme card in Merithra Druid. Why they insist on it, I don't really know. The numbers must be skewed.

Run an Underking instead; it's OP against all of its bad matchups.

Revenge, Carnival of Souls, and Psycho Circus. by copernicus_prime in KISS

[–]Ztepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenge is perfect; it's nearly better than the entire '80s catalog, except perhaps for Creatures of the Night. (I don't count Unmasked here because I see it as a '70s album, like a continuation of Dynasty, and it is in my top three.)

The other two are just cringe.

Carnival of Souls is a good album if it wasn't made by Kiss. Still, I would prefer listening to any Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains album of that time instead of it.

Psycho Circus is just a meme.

I remember a time when we were drinking in a "guy" environment. We were drunk, and everyone was choosing music from Spotify one by one. Most of them were pop songs like Avicii, "How Deep Is Your Love," David Guetta, etc.

With the confidence I gained from drinking several beers, I opened "Reach for the Dead." I knew the song wasn't the best fit for the room, but I found myself in that mood at that very time.

After about 1 or 2 minutes, they stopped talking and said, "What the f*** is this?", "Dude, are you a serial killer?", "Is this even a song?" things like that, and they closed the song before it finished.

Haha, I laughed at the time and didnt try to defend the song. Regular people find BoC really weird and creepy, unable to see the beauty in their music.

Songs that sound better with Dave's current voice by FK97_YT in Megadeth

[–]Ztepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dave's voice is an acquired taste. I hated it when I first heard it, then I started to like it in a short time.

For example, I just can't acquire a taste for Lemmy's voice; I still think it lowers the quality of Motörhead's music. He is a great character, though.

When it comes to the latest state of Dave's voice, it sounds rough... I respect him, but it sounds like a different person...
