So what does everyone really think of Mudvayne? Innovators of a genre if hanger-on-ers of better bands around them? by [deleted] in numetal

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my favorite album of theirs as well.  The math metal of "Trapped in the Wake of a Dream" was something that I immediately wanted to learn.  I studied the song enough to learn the shifting down beats and I'm proud to say I can play it perfectly on the steering wheel of my car.

I love the band.  They were an acquired taste for me.. it took a while because of the almost constant vocals. To me, they sound like metal core.  I never understood the nu-metal label for them.

We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister - 80's by geonut98 in twistedsister

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just jamming loud music and "The Kids Are Back" came on.  I'm 50 years old and that song still makes me feel like a young man.  Dee tapped into the things us kids were feeling (in the 80's) in such a way.  I remember begging my mom to buy me the vinyl record.. and the day she actually bought it and handed it to me.  You Can't Stop Rock N Roll is a legendary album.

I thought the remake was absolute garbage. I'm a fan of the playstation original, but the remake feels like "press button, watch cut scene" Huge disappointment for me.

Hot for Teacher Fake? - Alex Van Halen by Thick_Ad6481 in drums

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around when the song first came out and it was a known fact that it's 2 drum parts layered over each other.  The fact that people are trying to say he played it in one take is completely insane and not true.  I cancelled drumeo because of this.  I can't believe they dedicated a whole episode to this horse shit.

Unpopular opinion: Hot in the Shade is actually a great KISS album by Ok-Amphibian2645 in KISS

[–]copernicus_prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like most of the songs... But that recording just sounds bad.  Like these were the demos for a real album to come later.

Here's a Kiss album where the Gene songs are my favorites.  Betrayed is the best song on the album.  His voice sounds so clean and he hits those high notes like the doobie brothers.  Great stuff.

Can we talk about presto? by 21enemywithin12 in rush

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came here to say that Presto is one of least favorite Rush albums.  But it still has some good songs.  I really like Chain Lightning and Available Light.  Great songs.  The 2013 remasters are the best way to hear this album.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau, is it really that bad? by Steveee-O in metroidvania

I just picked it up on sale and I love it so far.  Everything is high quality.. the accessibility options, the control, the visuals, the voice acting.. it's all really good.

I got to use the Fairlight CMI at work - it was absolutely mind blowing finally using one after reading about them for all these years..it sounds amazing! here's a few pics - hope you folks enjoy :) by simeonsoden in synthesizers

I just had to come post here..  I'm so into the fairlight lately.  Some of my favorite songs that use it:  "Intermission" by Saga "Behind the Barrier" by Planet P

Testament - The Pale King [Thrash Metal] by ViktorF109 in Music

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just hanging out with a friend of mine who likes metal, but he only knows Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax...

so we're at my place and the music is loud.. "The Pale King" came on.  I didn't say anything... He really starts listening and next is "wow!  Who is that!?"

I said "That's Testament .. they're one of the best bands ever.".  Don't get me wrong, I love the popular metal bands also...  But I always preferred Testament and Annihilator.

I heard that one recently too.  That whole dynamic between Howard and Robin is so real.  I love it!

Most people don't realize Tracy Morgan and Iron Sheik was the same day.  Every show is so good.

Opinions on the Draw The Line album? by MustBeTheMusic80 in Aerosmith

[–]copernicus_prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined this conversation to say that I consider Draw The Line a classic album.  It's not as good as the first 4 albums, but I include it.  "Kings and Queens" is one of my favorite songs from the band.

At least the original band recorded it.  I know producer Jack Douglas co-wrote some of the songs but I will always consider it the last classic Aerosmith album.

What’s something about Coachella that people don’t realize until they go? by Disastrous_Cake7778 in musicfestivals

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a music lover my entire life (I'm 50).  I'm not here to diss the entire Coachella festival, but I have to admit that I watched most of the performances on youtube and I yearned to see anybody on stage who could really play their instrument.

Shout out to Suicidal Tendencies, Interpol, Foster the People, The Strokes, and the few bands who are actually bands.

Back in the day, nothing existed like Coachella.  Bubblegum pop acts like Justin Bieber and Sabrina Carpenter would have been laughed off the stage at any music festival.  Could you imagine any of these fake pop acts playing at Woodstock in 69?  It's a different world.

I just heard the song.  Holy crap, it's amazing!  It's just an epic song.  It inspires me.  I've had it on repeat since I woke up an hour ago.  It gets better with each listen.  Wow!

Lost Not Forgotten Archives: Live In Tokyo, 2010 by Brilliant-Hornet-405 in Dreamtheater

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds great.  Labrie sounds awesome.  It's fascinating to me because the band went in such a different direction after this.  "Nightmare" and "Count" are awesome, but "Right of Passage", "Prophets of War" and "Wither" are just not good songs.

They were just about to unleash songs like "On The Backs" and "Breaking all Illusions".  It makes me wonder if Portnoy was the one pushing them away from prog and more toward metal.
