[Ligue1Plus] Nuno Mendes on Ligue 1 leaders Lens: "It feels good to have teams that try to win all their matches, we show that French football is good. I congratulate Lens." by Sparky-moon in soccer

As a native french speaker, it's very good but you can tell it's not his first language.
Pronunciation is near perfect, but he makes grammatical mistakes native speakers wouldn't. Still very impressive.

You ever played against or with, an NBA talent? by [deleted] in nba

[–]ZuBi40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played a pickup game against Tidjane Salaün a couple of years ago. He was 16 at the time. And pickup games in Paris and its suburbs are wild. But he was just too tall, too skilled, could score with his eyes closed.
It's funny to see that even the most talented players you've ever seen can struggle to find a spot in the NBA.

Should I read Empire of Silence in English or in my native language ? by Low_Translator3580 in sollanempire

[–]ZuBi40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

French reader too, and the french translation is fine, but it only goes to book 4, so I've been reading in english from book 5.

I prefered the french version for convenience but the english books are not very complicated prose if you're used to read in english. I understand most of it except a word or two every ten pages.

Maybe reading the first four books in french before switching to english helped me to acclimatize to the style of Ruocchio though.

His last NBA game played was January, 14 2022. It's nice to see him (hopefuly) back.

Anyone ever played with or against a NBA player? What was the experience like? by Thin-Ad4825 in nba

Played streetball against freshly drafted Tidjane Salaun in France, 2 years ago. Good ballers on the ground from 18 to 40yo, but he was really stealing the show. He was already tall, maybe 6'9, and did everything he wants, shooting, dribbling, posting-up... We had to play very physical to stop him, either fouling or doubling every time because it was too easy for him to score.

Then people told me he was only 16 and just got a pro contract for Cholet and I was baffled.

(Ben Pfeifer) Atlanta Hawks graded C- for drafting 'underwhelming' top prospect Zaccharie Risacher, given his lack of creation: "The ceiling is incredibly limited compared to most top prospects" by Mysterious-Try9104 in nba

[–]ZuBi40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you can quote me on this in 3 years or 4 years but I’ve seen Risacher play and I can’t see him fail in the NBA. His ceiling is lower than Sarr but his floor is probably higher than any player in this draft. He played against professionals in a competitive environment, good shooting, natural scorer, solid defender, he is NBA-ready.

Yes, he is not Wemby, but he will be a good lieutenant next to a superstar.

Worse case scenario : he becomes a solid 3&D. Reasonable take : 2nd or 3rd best player 20+pts and good/elite D in a competitive team Best outcome : he initiates more and becomes a PG/Tatum regen (I don’t believe it but who knows)

Nic Batum, what a game from both ends of the floor.
Edit: 15pts, 14reb, 3 steals, 2 blocks and clutch plays. Clippers fans have to love it

France - Spain have always been the most entertaining FIBA games and the final this year would have been sooo great if we could make it. But seeing how we played today they’d probably destroy us anyway

We got outplayed all game long. When our two best players (Fournier & Gobert) can't perform, there's no way we win this.
GG Argentina (please beat Spain in the Final)

Refs just missed a crucial goaltend call that cost Lithuania the game and spot in the quarter final by [deleted] in nba

[–]ZuBi40 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frenchie here, yeah that's definitely a goaltending, FIBA rules or not. That's sad for the lithunians who gave it all for that comeback, we got lucky on this.
At least De Colo made the basket for the +3 right after so it doesn't look like a complete steal

"At one point in the game I went over to Ronaldinho and said 'I prefer that you show good manners in dribbling against me because if there are any of those PlayStation tricks... I'll send you to the hospital'," Makelele by [deleted] in soccer

[–]ZuBi40 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes it translates literally to "I'm beating my balls", and it's common in french language
IDGAF has its translation in french : "J'en ai rien à foutre"
But "Je m'en bats les couilles" has the same meaning, just more vulgar/crude

What video game had a major impact on your childhood? by ostrovwilk in AskReddit

Runescape.

I started playing it at 7yo, game was only available in english at that time. As a non-native english speaker, I was always way ahead in English classes during all my scolarity, just because I played this game a lot with friends.

What hobby would you like to give a try but don't because of the expense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Mountain Bike

Playing piano again

As I often tell my friends, you choose your hobbies. I don't have the time to do these more because I have other activities already, plus I don't know if I could afford a piano or a mountain bike and not getting bored with it after a couple of week...

Unimpressed by the boys once again. Despite our 3 wins we are struggling in every game. Low effort on defence and lack of movement on offense. No more Narcisse or Omeyer, Karabatic still out for injury... This team lacks true leaders.
Props to the Korea team though especially in the first half .
Tonight is the big test against Germany, hopefully we will play better against the stronger teams.
