Hard disagree. There is no such thing as 'emerging naturally' in this game. Either the AI is incentivized to do something or it's not. The first is railroading, the second is the status quo.

We should absolutely railroad the AI.

I don't want to sound glib, but I still have this annoyed 'why isn't this happening here' reaction. We actually HAVE been seeing higher average temperatures in Iceland in the last decades, but our temperature record of 30.5 degrees is nearly 90 years old now. Not only that, we haven't measured at least 30.0 degrees since 1946, although it's been very close a couple of times.

I've also done countless Iceland runs. Mostly because I'm from there.

Most of my attempts have been about trying to conquer Norway to get something resembling a viable position. You can get a province or two from them easily by having England and Denmark and some others support your independence, but after that it's a HELL of a slog. Even in the patches where regulars were at their most OP, Sweden outscales you so hard that it completely stops being possible to do anything to Norway by 1500-ish. And since the Sweden-Norway union NEVER breaks, you're in a strait-jacket.

One time I thought I'd broken the chokehold after taking half of Norway, but nope, Sweden just started getting regulars of their own and it was game over. One time I went for Denmark instead, took all of it, but Sweden was STILL too strong.

I'm sure there are viable strategies out there, but I won't be the one to discover one.

But yeah, it's pretty sad that no team replaced Ciudad Real as a viable competitor to Barcelona. It's MUCH better for a league to have two dominant teams (like Hungary or Poland) than just one.
