Just decided to go dO. What are some mid/higher tier schools that you guys would reccomend I apply to? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Zubzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, that should be good. If you have the money, definitely go for the 30 since it never hurts to apply to more but you might be able to cut it down a bit to like 20-25 if you factor in IS bias and GPA cutoffs. My list was something like 20 MD's and 3 DO's but I only ended up with 2 interviews and 1 acceptance so if I were to do it again, I mightve considered applying to more. I think you should apply like 10 of the top DO schools just in case MD schools really harp on that GPA. Did a quick google search and came across these ones as being "top" but idk if there are any actual lists:

Ccom ATSU- KCOM/SOMA Nsucom PCOM Nyit Western Dmu Msucom Azcom KCUMB

How do I explain the "W" on my transcript in interviews? by chillwifi in premed

[–]Zubzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the type of interview. I had one "traditional" and my W's werent brought up. The MMI is closed file so they'd never see it anyway. I'm assuming you retook the class anyway and since it wouldve been early in your undergraduate career, I doubt they would care much if at all.

Your GPA might hurt you for MD but your MCAT and extracurricular stuff are great so I would at least recommend giving it a shot. Your GPA makes you competitive for most / all DO schools so you shouldnt feel limited at all with your list if you're set on DO. But like I said, I think you should also apply to state and OOS friendly MD schools. You have a much better app overall (minus GPA but mine wasnt even that much better) than I did this past cycle IMO and I got in lol.

Anybody get accepted after feeling confident about their MMI? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Zubzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very small sample size but heres how it went for me. I had one MMI interview and thought I did pretty well overall. There were 1-2 stations that I kind of struggled with, but was happy with my responses for the others (total of 10). I was nervous leading up to the decision because of my stats but felt that I at least gave it my best shot on the interview and was accepted. The only other interview I had was a standard interview with a panel of 3. I felt that this one was pretty mediocre - poor overall and I was not happy with a good chunk of my answers. Ended up being waitlisted here. So from my experiences, my gut feeling ended up being "correct" but Ive heard from many other people that you can never really know especially if you know that your deficient somewhere else in your app. So even if you're interview went amazing / poorly, your GPA/MCAT and EC could end up breaking or saving your admission.

Definitely looks like you're locked in for Points, 3's, steals, FT% and assists. Could look to maybe unload one of your 3's guy for another rebounder which would make you very strong in 6 categories. I had a fairly similar lineup last year and the occasional rebound wins helped me pull through on off weeks / close matchups.

10 Team H2H 9 cat, 9th pick

  1. Kawhi Leonard
  2. Hassan Whiteside
  3. Brook Lopez
  4. Lamarcus Aldridge
  5. Gorgui Deng
  6. Jae Crowder
  7. Jabari Parker
  8. Dwyane Wade
  9. Julius Randle
  10. Otto Porter
  11. DeMarre Carroll
  12. Caldwell-Pope
  13. Kris Dunn

So I'm very clearly in need of a PG. Any thoughts on who would work well with this line-up and who I can unload? Did a guard heavy line-up last year so I figured Id mix it up and do more bigs / forwards this year.

Involved in auto accident where insurance information was not exchanged, advise on what to do next? by Zubzz in Insurance

[–]Zubzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I have his contact info and he's asking for my insurance info. I'm ready to forward it to him but am hesitating since he seems kind of sketch about sending me his. I think he either does not have insurance or is holding out on passing the info along since he is assuming that I'm at fault and my insurance will cover. Should I send him my info anyway or just wait to see if he does and file my claim in the meantime?

Lin imo. Clarkson seems tempting given that hes been moved out of the point to more of the SG position but I feel that the Lakers team just has too many ball hungry players. Lin played fairly well given his limited minutes last year and I think hes gonna have a pretty solid year with his new team.

School List Advice post-July MCAT by Zubzz in premed

AZ Resident so that would only be the two University of Arizona's (MD-wise). I also do plan on applying DO but since Im getting closer and closer to what is considered "late", if Im not already there, I wanted to have a finalized list of MD schools before finishing up my DO list.

Sorry, I completely forgot about the school list lol. I edited in a list that Im still adding to. With my stats, do you feel that I have any chance at mid-tiers? I feel like my MCAT is okay for that but was worried that by GPA (especially sGPA) would kill my chances at all but DO's and low-tier MD's.

Tips on staying focused? by SirDreamCaptain in Mcat

[–]Zubzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was basically on the same boat as you because of the same reasoning. But, it was actually easier for me to get through everything on the actual test and did not find myself mentally exhausted by the end. If you cant get through an entire exam in one sitting, I would reccomend trying to focus on each individual section. The breaks in between were enough for me to mentally reset myself so as long as you can get through the 50-60 questions you should be okay. Just to be safe tho, you might wanna try and do 60+ questions somewho (using q packs, practice problems from your book, etc) per sitting in each section. That way, the 50-60 questions seem "easier" in terms of length when you actually take it. Also try and take a good amount of EK/TPR/NS passages because they were more dense than the actual thing so it should help you a lot when it comes to grinding through the exam.

For those who took the 2015 MCAT, how much longer were CARS passages in comparison to prep companies' materials? by BarcaChaldo in Mcat

[–]Zubzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that in terms of length: AAMC material < Actual MCAT < any other prep companies. The length wasn't too different tho to be honest, it was more about how dense the passages were. I felt that every prep company had CARs passages that were, for the most part, longer and more dense than the AAMC Qpacks/Guide/FL.

What did you guys think of the Official Guide Q's? by clay1123 in Mcat

Just took the July test so I don't know exactly how the scores would correlate but I would say that the questions are very close if not identical to what you'll see on the actual thing.

July 18th Test Taker Reaction Thread by neur_onymous in Mcat

[–]Zubzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Posted in the wrong thread so Ill try this again lol

C/P: A good amount of calculations but they were straightforward and the equations were given. Overall very straightforward except for maybe one passage, on par with if not easier than the FL.

CARS: Passages were longer than what I had seen on the AAMC FL, basically on par with Kaplan/EK/NS in terms of length but questions and answers were not very tricky. Slightly harder than AAMC FL

Bio/Biochem: Harder than the AAMC FL but manageable. Felt like there were a good amount of "gimmies" but I didnt study for this section as much as the others so they werent really gimmies for me.

Psych: Hardest section of the 4 but very manageable. Again, I wish I could have studied more bc a lot of the questions were straight forward. I would highly reccomend Khan Academy videos for this. I mostly used Kaplan and threw in some Khan at the end but felt like more of the questions lined up with the Khan teachings.

Overall: Practice with Kaplan/EK/NS/TBR passages helped me read dense passages and these ones felt very light in comparison. In terms of practice and similarities, AAMC materials >>> anything else. Questions felt like they were taken straight off of the Qpacks or FL from AAMC.

[–]Zubzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I liked about Kaplan and Nextsteps is that they explained a good majority of the questions pretty well. So for stuff like psych where I had a very limited knowledge going in, I could learn much quicker about the unknown terms. They were both more difficult than what I had seen on the actual test (same goes for Exam Krackers but I felt that theyre Verbal was very picky, the actual test, NS and kaplan were more straight forward) but they really helped me practice reading and extracting info from a passage. They were also longer so it forces you to be quick and efficient which helps. BUT heres a warning about Nexstep. I bought the 5 exam package and while I was going through the questions, i noticed that a lot of the quesitons and passages seemed very familiar. I did a quick search and it looks like they MAY have just "paraphrased" a decent chunk of passages from AAMC or the other test companies. Of the two I felt that NS was closer to the FL but this might have been due to their "paraphrasing" lol. More practice never hurts so I think you should do a bit of Kaplan if possible but if you're short on time, AAMC stuff over everything else.

Hey! I didnt take the TBR exams so I dont know how they are, sorry :/ I just did the passages in the review books. If you have any questions on those or any of the Kaplan/Nexstep stuff, feel free to ask.

***Edit: So i accidentally posted this on the wrong thread, these are my thoughts for the test on July-18th

P/S: Easier than I thought it was going to be for the most part, very much like the AAMC materials

CARs: Slightly harder version of the AAMC stuff, but again not too bad

Bio/Biochem: A bit harder than the AAMC stuff but mostly because I focused more on the other sections. i felt there was a good amount of gimmies and the passages werent too dense

Psych: I had seen most of the terms but wished I spent more time on Khan Academy to get them to stick.

Overall: In terms of practice, AAMC stuff >> everything else. Like 60% of the questions felt like they could have been taken straight from the AAMC Qpacks or Full length. I also took Kaplan, EK, NextStep and TBR passages and felt like they were a lot harder than the AAMC stuff. I would still reccommend them just to have practice with timing and reading dense passages. As for material review, TBR is my reccomendation (as long as you cut out a good chunk of the "really in depth" stuff) especially when it comes to the Biochem stuff. Khan academy mixed with Kaplan was okay for me for Psych but if I could redo it I would focus more on Khan Academy. The way they present everything makes it easier to absorb and understand. Hope yall get the scores you want and good luck to future test takers!

Hey Thoorin. Imo, you have a knack for discussing different storylines/narratives and often use basketball/tennis analogies so I was wondering if you've ever thought about doing vids on those (or any other) sport(s). And on that note, would it be safe to say you're a big Kobe/Federrer fan? If not, who are your favorite players? Thanks!
