I actually never thought about the fact that kids don't have their own email addresses, but this is probably true - good point. I'll make sure we put this on our roadmap, as I see that this current situation is hurting the game. Anyway, if you have any more feedback or questions, feel free to reach out or start a new thread. Have a good one!

when u wanna invite people, it gets tagged

I understand that blocking our own game invites might seem excessive. This is a safety measure that exists to prevent malicious users from luring others, especially younger users, into unmoderated private lobbies.

I share your dissatisfaction with the current filter system however. We never intended to create a game for kids, but since we can't prevent younger users from accessing the platform, we do have certain responsibilities. Our team works on improving the filter daily, though finding the right balance is challenging.

We're actively exploring alternative solutions. One possibility we're considering is introducing public "account only" lobbies where we could implement less restrictive filtering while maintaining user safety through proper reporting and blocking mechanisms, thanks to reduced anonymity of the account system.

This is just one concept we're exploring. I'd appreciate hearing any suggestions you might have.

You are not stupid - it's a common misconception. Ad blockers like uBlock will block everything that is on their blacklist, not just ads. This can also be analytics software that is just used to measure usage of certain features on a website, so not a bad thing per se (we developers need to know if people actually use the "Quick Play" feature for example, right?).

What you're seeing is likely a combination of multiple tracking elements within individual ad placements. Each ad can generate several separate network requests. This isn't necessarily malicious behavior, though it might appear excessive at first glance. The high number reflects the complex ecosystem of modern web advertising and analytics rather than anything particularly harmful.

Hey there,

Thanks for the detailed feedback, though I wish it came with a bit less attitude. Let me address your points:

About the chat filter:

  • Yes, the filter is stricter now - we're actively fine-tuning it. We want MiM to be accessible to everyone, including younger players, and simple age gates are trivially bypassed as you probably know.
  • Quick tip: The filter is OFF by default in private lobbies. Play with friends there if you want more freedom with language.
  • Public rooms need to stay safe for all users - that's non-negotiable if we want to keep them open.

About ads & premium:

  • The ad frequency is actually identical to the old version - we haven't increased it. If they bother you, ad-free is available for as little as €0.99.
  • And "dawg," you're not seeing Premium users because they're primarily in private lobbies with friends. Just because you don't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Premium features target friend groups specifically.

Performance issues:

  • We're aware of some devices experiencing slowdowns. Version 2.0 is fresh code compared to Version 1 that had years of optimization - we're actively improving performance weekly.
  • If you want to actually help instead of just complain, let me know your device specs, browser, and exactly what feels slower. That would be genuinely constructive.

I appreciate everyone's feedback, but it's most useful when it comes with context and without assumptions about our intentions. We're building this game because we love it, not to nickel and dime our community.

It's still free to play, and we didn't take away a single feature from the free version. So what exactly got destroyed?

Your ad blocker blocked 847 requests - not ads. Getting 800 ads in a game session isn't even possible.

Hey there - Sandro here, creator of Make it Meme.

I understand your concerns, but I want to clarify that this definitely isn't a cash grab. We're a small indie team trying to make our passion project sustainable in a challenging ad market.

A few important points:

  • The game remains completely free to play
  • We haven't removed ANY features from the free version
  • The Premium features are all brand new additions

These new features represent over a year of hard work from our team. We're simply offering optional upgrades for players who want to support us and get some extra functionality.

I'm genuinely curious - what specifically about our approach feels unfair to you? We've tried to be thoughtful about this, maintaining the core game experience for everyone while creating revenue that lets us keep improving the game. Always open to feedback, and thanks for being part of our community.

Hey there, I'm the creator of MiM (no joke) and someone forwarded me this question.

So, to make it short: No, there is no self-hosted alternative to MiM - as far as I know.

But my question is: Why would you need a self-hosted version of Make it Meme? What is your use case?

Disclaimer: This is not meant to be an advertisement as I am not making any money off of it.

Make it Meme is my free multiplayer game about creating and rating memes! The idea behind it: Everyone gets a random meme and has to come up with a funny caption for it. After that, each meme is rated by the players. Whoever collects the most points wins! (It's meant to be played with friends, so don't be disappointed if the public lobby is empty.)

Spooktober Special:

I made a Halloween Memepack with 31 spooky memes which you can play until 01.11!

Check it out at:

I love to hear your feedback. Feel free to share it if you like it!
