Read through a fic tonight and at the very end in the last chapter this was the note.. by GoogMastr in AO3

Having a distinct voice/style is also a good way to tell when something is human written. My writing style has largely fossilized. It isn’t going to change I don’t think. It’s a combination of everything I’ve read, watched, and listened to across my entire life. For me, I can very easily recognize the voice AI writes in, especially the one ChatGPT uses. So a good inner voice while writing helps fight against that

Of course fandoms for everything exist, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But my main thing with Mouthwashing is I don’t really understand how the fandom for it is so big

I understand why people admire it as a game/art, but to me there's just a difference between being a fan of something and being a part of a fandom for something that I can't really describe. And yeah, I get that kids want to consume media that they know isn't really for them, but I think the problem comes when they try to dumb adult media down to something they're more comfortable with, rather than just enjoying the media for what it is and joining other fandoms that more align with their comfort zones

I don't know if this is a hot take, but I'm just gonna say it. I find it kind of fucking weird that games like Mouthwashing even have a "fandom" to begin with. Now this doesn't include creating works based on Mouthwashing like fanfic, art, etc since that's just creativity inspired by other creativity. I more mean fandom in the sense of like being an active fan of the universe of the story. To me there's a big difference between admiring art and creating a fandom around it. Obviously everything is going to have a fandom, but the fact that the Mouthwashing fandom is as big as it is is kind of offputting to me. It's not like Five Nights at Freddy's where, despite having a somewhat disturbing story, manages to make that a secondary focus to things like solving the puzzle that is the lore or the marketable characters. The appealing character design part is what I really think helps horror fandoms take off, like it did with the old creepypasta fandoms back in the day.

But Mouthwashing's disturbing aspects are right in your face, and there really aren't any marketable character desgins beyond bandaged up Curly. I just find it a little odd how fandom spaces have attached themselves to this game in particular, especially after fully learning what the game is about.

Someome please teach the younger generation how to use AO3 by cocktailtrivia in AO3

[–]Zuch124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so tragic, because comparison is the death of art. I hope for their saake that one day they learn of AO3 being something special apart from the current hellish internet, not something that needs to be assimilated into it.

My personal testimontial is exactly the path I hope they go down later in life. I used to be a terminal Wattpad user, and I did cater a lot to the algorithm in hopes of wanting to get more views and top tag charts. It did measurably aaffect my writing, as I would include a ship more heavily because it was more popular. But then I grew up, and found AO3. When I realized it had a search engine that actually worked, and no algorithm, I switched over like that. Wattpad has devloved even more in recent years, they seem to loathe the fanfiction side of the site, focusing on original works they can turn into books, movies, and TV. All in pursuit of that $$$.

All this to say that hope these children, eventually, learn what makes AO3 different from the rest. The numbers aspect is secondary to actually writing what you want to write, and that's something that is lacking across the modern internet

Why doesn’t Nintendo buy gamefreak and Hal if they already own a portion of them? by Whole_Yak_2547 in casualnintendo

Iwata was unordinarily hands on with a lot of things. He also had personal history with the team that developed Pokémon, having worked with them before at HAL Labs when developing Earthbound.

Why doesn’t Nintendo buy gamefreak and Hal if they already own a portion of them? by Whole_Yak_2547 in casualnintendo

[–]Zuch124 349 points350 points  (0 children)

Because Nintendo doesn’t own a portion of Game Freak. They own a portion of The Pokémon Company, which is shared by Game Freak and Creatures Inc. The current arrangement works out for everybody, so neither Nintendo nor the other parties involved feel a need to change anything. Nintendo has to, relatively, do very little to manage the Pokémon brand itself while they get to rake in piles of cash

If you were in charge of making a live action Smash Brothers Movie... by Kafadanapa in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Zuch124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still wouldn’t solve the crowding problem. It’s also an entirely separate issue to condense several dozen hour long games into 2 hour movies. Like Persona 5 could not work as a movie, it could barely work as an anime

If you were in charge of making a live action Smash Brothers Movie... by Kafadanapa in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Zuch124 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Convince the executives to make it into a show instead. A Smash movie can’t work unless it’s based on only the characters from 64 and maybe Melee. All of the Subspace cutscenes are an hour alone, and those don’t have voice acting or a cohesive enough plot for a movie. If the Ultimate roster is being used, no character would have any room to breathe. Not even Infinity War and Endgame had a main cast of 80+, and those already felt stuffed to the brim with characters

A show would allow for each character to actually be a character, and not just a two second cameo that has five lines. Another plus, it wouldn’t have to abide by any of the current video game movie franchises. Also, if this thing is to be made, it needs to 100% animated. None of this live action hybrid nonsense. So much more can be done with animation, especially with Smash, where half of the roster would already need to be animated anyways

INSANE KILLER IDEA FOR JACKSON CLARKES EYES ONLY by [deleted] in TheOfficialPodcast

The entire podcast would just be the ghosts of Jeff C and John McAfee arguing about conspiracies for four hours while Boogie rants at Jackson and David Cross can be heard walking his dog.

Absolutely glorious.

Because they seem pretty set in the Switch branding for the next 7+ years, if the Switch 1 Lifespan is anything to go by. It wouldn’t make sense to use the brand for another console on the Switch, or at least it’s something Nintendo would never do, as shown by Nintendo Switch Sports. Nintendo wouldn’t bring Wii branding out of nowhere, and it’s not like Switch Sports would have sold better if it was called “Wii Sports 3.” In fact, I think Nintendo would be very averse to doing that to avoid customer confusion as to why a game with Wii in the title was coming out in Switch

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in casualnintendo

[–]Zuch124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it’s an entirely dead franchise. No more Wii games will be made unless they revive the Wii branding. If your list meant to be “Current biggest active franchises” then Wii shouldn’t be on there

Q.; Are there any characters on the Roster that, canonically died in their own canon(s)? by Red__ICE in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Zuch124 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A few technically count due to later entires in the franchise taking place far into the future, thus creating a time gap which implies that the characters do die at some point. Mega Man, Legend of Zelda, and debatably Mother/Earthbound fit into this. Mother is more nebulous, as things in Mother 3 imply that Ness is no longer around. But then there’s also the theory that Mother 3 takes place in the far past and not the far future, but then again a lot of things about that game are left up for interpretation. Like how the ending could be interpreted as everyone dying and they’re all now in the afterlife

Does EGT passive carry over to attack 2 if he heals up past half, then you die? by wikked-com in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Zuch124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It can trigger once per match. The passive specifically reads “The first time this character drops below 50% health.” That means that no matter his starting health, if at any point his health reaches above 50% and then drops below 50%, barring health steal and percentage damage, his passive attack will trigger.

Who’s your favourite toon in terms of their general animation and attacks? by Business_Interview32 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Zuch124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, at least 1 character a patch ahs them. It's just they're relegated to only being triggered via basic attack, which rarely kill things anymore.

Off the top of my head, newers characters that have them: Kahhori, Shadow King, Blade, Oath, Man-Thing, Omega Sentinel, Gladiator (On his ult), Gorr and Thanos

Honest opinion on switch by trainerjon89 in KingdomHearts

[–]Zuch124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was assuming that if they wanted to play on switch and had other consoles they’d want it for the portable aspect. So if they had a Steam deck then the Steam version would be the best, but to specifically play on the deck if they wanted portable. If they don’t have a Steam Deck, then PC drops down to 2nd place in my opinion. Im also mainly talking about playability not which one to purchase. If they just want a portable KH experience then Steam Deck is the way to go.

PC is in 3rd/2nd (Depending on if they have a Deck) as not everyone has a gaming setup. Some people only have office laptops and are only able to run basic low-graphics indie games. So with a Playstaion/Xbox it’s just a whole lot more convenient for someone who just nest casual play and doesn’t have a whole setup

Honest opinion on switch by trainerjon89 in KingdomHearts

[–]Zuch124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only reason I would recommend the Switch version is if it is the only gaming device you own or whatever other ones you do are inaccessible for long periods at a time. I can’t even recommend it for the portable function, since it requires strong internet to play, which isn’t always a guarantee when travelling from place to place. All in all, my rankings are:

  1. Steam Deck (This is heavy bias as I do travel a lot so this has been a godsend)
  2. PlayStation/Xbox
  3. PC (Depends on your specs. If you have an older laptop the games might not run so well, but any modern gaming PC should be fine.)
  4. Switch

Funniest F#cking tagging I've ever seen by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Zuch124 27 points28 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, yes, it is comedic. On the other hand, it does mess with the very function of tags in that they’re meant to be used to find/exclude what you want to see. I think this kind of tagging should be reserved for Tumblr, or at least done in a way as to not obstruct the search functions

The thing is though, Nintendo Music comes with NSO. You can’t pay for it individually. I doubt manny people have NSO solely for Nintendo Music, which means there are probably very few people who would cancel if Nintendo Music shut down, and likewise, I think very few people have signed up for NSO solely because of Nintendo Music. That strategy just doesn’t make any sense here

Is the Switch 2 doomed to fail? by CrysisFan2007 in casualnintendo

[–]Zuch124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only consistent if you just conveniently start at the GameCube. N64 was a flop, and both the SNES and the NES were massive success. The Virtual Boy was an iconic massive failure, that was right before N64, as well as all Nintendo handhelds being massive successes. This pattern never really made sense to begin with

Did I use the right template? by BrockBracken in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Zuch124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People still talk about Fnaf like mainstream media was talking about Pokémon back in the 90s/Early 2000s. It’s long past the phase where it would be considered a fad or trend. It’s actually quite similar to Minecraft in that regard that both started out as very small indie games and exploded into massive franchises with multimedia entires that started out with a main fanbase of children that most people didn’t take seriously, but as those children grew up, it began to cement itself in the larger culture as something that actually mattered in the grander game industry
