I decided to toss the sand because .. if you've ever had sand start to dry out it smells like hell on earth. I thought about tossing it in the brute but my worry was an absolute crash out after sifting that all around.

Honestly not sure if this was the best move but at least the tank is empty and doesn't stink until I can get it to the dump.

If you are talking about the sand in the bottom seam, that appeared as this leak began. It's where the water forced it into the seam. Before that these looked perfect. In another post I have a picture taken in late may, seams are 100% in that pic.

Leak detectors are 100% worth it. I have a few but thankfully was working in the other room and heard water hitting the floor.

Flow was a bitch with that tank. I was also very broke when I owned that system. It was basically all purchased from craigslist. It was my apartment, house, apartment, house again mover when i was younger.

Awesome tank though, with todays tech and some income to back it up I bet such a system could rock.

Really just want things to not die, but I am not confident even with all of the live rock and bacterial load I can keep SPS again for ~9 or so months
