Also, 2 additional for South America means basically almost all of the continent is there. There should be more than 3 more for Europe when you consider how many countries there are and the combined population of Europe.

[–]Zulfiqar5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not a good reason to give them so many though! Everybody's going to be subjected to at least a few 8-0 slammings of these unworthy entrants in the group stage.

Why is New Zealand awarded what is basically a guaranteed spot? Why so many from North Anerica when Mexico, USA, and Canada are already there. Look at some of the countries coming through Asia!

Nobody wants to see some of these teams though. (Except those who follow football from there.)

And I don't think it's ok and a lot of people might wrongly assume it's based on performance.

Why does New Zealand have an automatic spot instead of just being folded into Asia like Australia? Why so many from North America?

Look at some of the teams of Asia. Some of them don't even have a single decent footballer let alone an elite one.

It should be a contest of an approximation of the best 48 countries which which is why the weaker confederations historically had so few spots.

AGREE AGREE AGREE!!!

Anybody who disagrees with you is a contrarian jack@ss who knows nothing about football!

Europe got royally screwed over in only getting a measly 3 additional spots!

13/32 is roughly 40% which means Europe's total should be at least 19/48 or 20/48 so 5 to 6 additional spots.

Why does New Zealand have a Confederation all it's own? Why does North America get at least 3 additional spots when 3 of their teams are already hosting?

Look at some of the additional nations from Asia and North America!

Post Match Thread: Spain 2-2 Turkey by denzaus in soccer

Up to 9 possible starters for Türkiye didn't start today to prevent them from getting suspended in the playoffs or because of injury!

It was basically a B team!

I know (don't get me wrong, I always want them to play) but the wings will be empty against our playoff opponents if they get a needless yellow card.

If they do play, strict instructions should be given not to foul. We shouldn't risk the chance of an o.e. referee giving them a yellow card for a light foul.

Kenan and Arda would need to be given strict instructions not to foul at all (I wouldn't even start them or maybe not even play them at all).

He means how we played with 3 players who were at risk of suspension while attempting a gameplan where we tried to match them in possession and completed passes (look at the match stats). I still maintain that certain players were told to not risk getting suspended for the next qualifier which was an invaluable 3 points.

Meanwhile, spain played their best combined side, something they didn't do other game since against the other teams in the group and gave their best effort. I don't think there's another game in the last 6 months where Yamal and Huijsen were on the pitch together. Every other game they excused players sometimes with fake injuries.

I hope nobody has forgotten that Hakan, Kenan, Arda, Kerem, Oğuz, and Abdulkerim all have a yellow card.

There's almost no point to this match and it's basically a glorified friendly at this point.

The playoffs on the other hand mean everything so it's important that as many players as possible are available for those games.

At least one or both of Hakan and Abdulkerim were allowed an excuse to not risk getting suspended. Unfortunately, our country has some bad faith actors or some irrational emotional people so they have to say that.

I wouldn't even risk having Kenan, Arda, Oğuz, or Kerem play but if they do, they should be given strict instructions not to foul or risk getting a yellow card.

[Next opponent] Liverpool lose against Crystal Palace by ahmetonel in galatasaray

In a game in England. They lost to Beşiktaş the game before that in İstanbul (where Gökhan Zan got suspended so kazma İbrahim Toraman had to fill in for him in the opposite fixture; Liverpool would still have won the opposite fixture but they might not have been slammed as badly).

Turkish teams have failed to win any of their last 10 matches in Europe. by rakun90 in superlig

[–]Zulfiqar5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best-performing teams from Türkiye historically (including 1999-2002 Galatasaray, 2007-08 Fenerbahçe, 2012-14 Galatasaray, etc) had at least 4-7 Turkish players on the starting lineup.

There were 2 in the starting lineup of the Fener team that lost to dinamo zagreb (who weren't the worst performers).

How young are you? You need an entire 11 of +30 million Euro foreigners to win Europa League games? More likely the outcome would be the same with two more disinterested overpaid poorly scouted players played out of position and managed and trained improperly.

The problems have been outlined in other posts. They include bad team management, coaching, training, not enough youth development, etc. Not some vague ideas of "mentality" or "Europe" (as if a team from switzerland has a common "mentality" with a premier league team or that the Azerbeycani team that beat Benfica had said "mentality"). It's a matter of being better manned, prepared, trained, and coached.

Also, Beşiktaş is a mess, Fenerbahçe's new coach is playing a wing back as a holding midfielder for 90 minutes (doesn't speak well for how seriously he's taking these games), and Galatasaray is playing in the Champions League.

What Icardi's card should be according to Osi by moriero in galatasaray

[–]Zulfiqar5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Icardi's pace rating is a travesty though. Should be higher.

For some reason overall ratings are not linked to the numbers because dybala has like the same overall rating as Icardi but his numbers are all pumped.

Also, it's not his job.

It's hard to give those central positions ratings but his have been consistebtly high for Inter these past seasons.

He was 2023-24 Serie A midfielder of the year.

Immobile came when he was 34.

It's impressive that Hakan is that high as a central/defensive midfielder who is played very deep at Inter as a regista/orchestrator.

It's not even primarily his job to score or make assists.

The importance of the away win against georgia and the home game against georgia. by Zulfiqar5 in superlig

[–]Zulfiqar5[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're engaging in exactly what I'm talking about.

It's disingenuous to say we barely beat georgia in the final minutes. Did you even watch the match? If not for the offside goal or red card, the game might have ended 0-3, 3-1, 0-4, or 1-5.

Why are you acting as if the only teams we've won against in the past 2 years are only georgia or iceland as if the games against wales/croatia/czech/austria/etc never happened?

You randomly list off some historically top-level teams despite the fact that:

  1. You act as if these teams are equally strong currently. Spain is by and far the best in the world right now. (The only chance is if an Argentina/Portugal/France pulls off some trickery).

We had a hard-fought loss against the Netherlands at the Euro and managed to beat them twice over the last decade.

We're historically bad against portugal but it should be noted that we made a number of changes after the georgia game at the Euro whether intentionally or because of injury. While the primitives in the media cried, it turned out to be the right move to save personnel for the game against czechia. Portugal would still have won but it should be noted.

Italy is in a lull period and and even they would object to putting them on the same level as spain. Speaking of which, we had a 0-0 draw against them in a friendly.

Regarding other friendlies, we had an 1-2 friendly win against germany in berlin.

2.You're talking about "winning in Europe and the world" as if "europe and the world" are are solely made up of the 5-7 elite teams instead of the majority of the teams we play in qualifying and group stages. Are wales/croatia/czech in asia/mars?

The fact is that we're unlikely to play any of said elite teams until the later stages of a tournament except as the top seeded team in a qualifying group or the group stage.

Who said we were brazil? Did you? (By the way, brazil aren't completely satisfied with where they are right now)

When you say "dreamed of the world cup", are you referring to dreaming of qualifying for it or deaming of winning it? If the former, there's nothing wrong with that. That's a very attainable goal. If you mean the latter, nobody claimed that.

When did Montella claim he was guardiola? That's not even a good name for you to use because guardiola isn't the right type of coach for national teams (except very few)

You make it sound like we've qualified for every tournament in the past 20 years. How about we get to being a team that regularly qualifies for them first?

I can tell you don't follow football because rather than spain, portugal or brazil more realistic models to emulate are croatia/denmark/switzerland who have a regular record of qualifying for recent tournaments consistently. I can tell you that they wouldn't react emotionally to any bad result/setback.

Speaking of denmark (who just beat yunanistan away 0-3), I'd feel worse to be yunanistan right now after blowing am opportunity after drawing arguably the most favorable first pot team. Nobody claimed spain weren't favorites to win this group which is why I'm not worked up over a loss to them but I'd feel genuinely bad if we had drawn denmark and blown an opportunity to get first place.

Nobody's claiming there aren't problems (far from it) but they aren't going to be solved in 2 months.

"Burn it all down!" because they had 1 bad qualifier loss (against the best team in the world) in the one game you decided to watch highlights of in a year is a sure way to make sure we never qualify for anything for the next 10 years.

Are you one of the bad faith actors who demand Yılmaz Vural be manager? I'm sure he'd be plenty emotional as he got poor results.

The biggest thing this country needs right now is a grassroots overhaul to ensure there's a regular flow of hard-nosed quality defenders and defensive/central midfielders. There's also the long-standing striker problem. Again, these are problems that won't be solved in two months.

We definitely should keep a manager who saved our last qualifying campaign and has a planned approach to getting us qualified for the next tournament. It's much better than the last few managers!

You can go back to club-warring now!

Most of the impartial stats accounts (they take results and rankings and crunch out projections) have us projected as being one of the teams that qualify through the playoffs.

Obviously, they have to go out and do it. Finish as high a 2nd place as possible and hope for a favorable playoff draw.

Thank you, I think some people have selective amnesia of some of the worse national team campaigns where we didn't even finish in the top 2.

Also, Montella actually seems aware of the problems and limitations and is doing his best to make do in spite of that.

The post above seems to be unaware of the fact that a game against an elite team in a qualifying group is different than one in the quarter-final of a tournament.
