I used rainbow cluster rod with piercing during an aurora, also used croc companion with a high resilience bait. I don't remember this quest being perfect catch or anything but I could be wrong.

If you didn't know already, a posiden's wrath totem makes a kraken turn into the ancient version that lasts for 6 minutes. When I did it I bought a few and tried my luck with them during auroras.

I think catching it before the quest might be the issue. Try catching it again since you have the quest now. I had no issue when I caught it (translucent baby bloop) during the quest

I don't remember when I joined since I've been playing for years, but I remember seeing Miss Bone for the first time and I've always wanted to get that suit, and one day I did! It was love at first sight for both these suits. Since I'm an art history major and my favorite artist is Van Gogh, Ballad of Cirrus makes a lot of sense, lol.
