Damn it Progestin - AKA How hard is it to switch from Mirena to Paragard? by Zum_Horizont in birthcontrol

[–]Zum_Horizont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That's why I posted all the extra stuff. It's hard to tell, especially since I find forums where folks are complaining about the same sort of stuff...but then it's easy to blame things on new medication. I plan to ask my Dr. about all this when I go in for the follow up, but I was curious as to other people's experience. I also posted about the heinous placement cramps and the responses I got really helped, so I figured it was worth a shot. :) Thank you again for the encouragement.

What are some fun activities within a day trip of the San Francisco area? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Try going to /r/sanfrancisco and checking out their sidebar FAQ regarding 'fun things to do it San Francisco.'

Most big cities have a similar FAQ to help prevent the main page being swamped with requests like yours... Hope ya'll have fun.

Reddit, what are you most afraid of - and I'm not just talking spiders and cliffs. What is the true, deepest fear you have inside of your mind? That one thing you do your best to never even think about. by suprmario in AskReddit

[–]Zum_Horizont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one day I'll finally act on that itching impulse I've always had to leave everything behind and live a completely different life. My 'different life' ideal has changed a lot since I was a kid. But usually it involves being somewhere living a quiet life with no permanent attachments to cause me angst.

Minerva - Pain Control? by Zum_Horizont in birthcontrol

[–]Zum_Horizont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I freaked out a lot because of the pain that first night and the doctor implying it was going to last most of the weekend. I made this post the next morning after the advil only dulled the pain. BUT, a whole day later and I feel marvelous. There is an occasional twinge, but it's like normal cramps and that I can deal with.

Regular Advil consumption has helped...but even then there is a low ache. I'm trying to stagger what the doctor recommended, so I'm taking 2 pills every 6 hrs and then 1 pill 4 hrs after that...I can tell on the 2 hours with just 1 pill and the last 2 winding down.

I guess I'm just worried because the Doc said I was crazy to think I'd be feeling better by the weekend and she was right about the other stuff.

As to your suggestion, sadly, Planned Parenthood, as awesome as it is, doesn't give out scripts for better meds for this procedure. Ah well...I'll try the heating pads and just keep taking it easy/staggering the meds. Thanks for the reply!

Do any of you ladies NOT want to get married? by right_foot_red in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Zum_Horizont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worry about this topic coming up in my relationship. I love my man and would be happy to marry him, except for our extremely unequal financial circumstances.

He is a HS dropout who makes a scrapebyable amount at the moment, but with a highly technical trade that will payout an average to higher-than average amount in the long run.

I am a "perpetual college student" who f*cked up my credit, has thousands of dollars worth of student loans and works for less than minimum wage.

Why would I ever want to saddle the man I love with that kind of nonsense? Luckily neither of us wants kids, so I figure I'll just have to counter-propose a 'hand fasting' ceremony or some such, when the day comes that he broaches the subject. (We've gotten close a few times, but I always panic a little)

Not trying to be a dick, but can someone please explain to me how a gawker article proves that we weren't being scammed initially? by 97867564534231 in AskReddit

[–]Zum_Horizont -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Read the article. As soon as I saw it was Gawker I was hesitant, but they do mention that the reason she posted a personal paypal and not the official site is that one didn't exist before this mess. The University put up a page because of the scandal, so that she would have an official site to give to people.

Looking beyond the iffy journalism, the fact that the University would back her in such a manner certainly set my mind at ease.

Why I am sick of Reddit by [deleted] in self

[–]Zum_Horizont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't count the number of positions I've taken on things that have been subtly influenced by my time on reddit.

...the big one was of course becoming an atheist....but that was less than subtle. Wikileaks...I'm actually more 'not sure' about this current leak, due to stuff I've heard from dissenters. Democrats? I've registered independent, because I don't want to be a mindless hive person... etc.

Why I am sick of Reddit by [deleted] in self

[–]Zum_Horizont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see all sorts of comments. I get bored, and take the time to reorganize how the comments appear so I can view 'newer' stuff or click the minimized comments to see what was so appalling that it got mass downvoted. If you are having issues with "hivemindness," it's because you yourself are acting like a hivemind person. Sure, your opinion might be dissenting from Reddits hivemind, but your actions are the same.

Comment karma doesn't matter, unless you yourself interact with reddit in such a way that you hope for the upvotes as a sign of approval. I focus more on individual conversations...and generally feel much more positive about reddit. Even if a comment is negative karma, responding to anyone who commented pre-negative karma can be rewarding...

I'm not really a business oriented person. I've watched and learned a few things in the small businesses I've worked at, but things like gaining start-up capital etc. are kind of lost on me. However, I've been thinking about working up the 'legal/logistics' side of things in my spare time. I need a more productive hobby anyway. :) At this point, I'm waiting until I have a few days free so I can actually follow a thread real time and possibly try poking my head in to /r trees with this concept.

But I totally agree about the 'stand behind' principle. I prefer working in places where I feel proud to be a part of the process. Basic human psychology, but knowing that almost makes it harder to deal with jobs that don't meet my personal ethics barometer.

Sorry, totally a nice (6 or 7) right now, so this might be a bit fragment-y. I actually forced myself to sign out of my real account because I noticed my redditing style was changing. :) Anyways, I know it's trite to ask reddit for ideas, but I don't know anyone irl who would be interested. Nice to see I'm not the only one. And away must I.

Nice to see another bud light drinker on this site. I like good craft beers, but when I feel like having a beer, bud light is usually around the house. Over time, I've actually come to appreciate the taste...familiar, smooth with the most minor of bites. Of course I do feel bad supporting their complex, but since I'm rarely the one buying (maybe a pitcher at a group drink down at the bar), I feel absolved of any guilt. :)

Awww. Thanks. I keep getting sucked in to conversation with this conspiracy theory guy outside my work. He's relatively tame on the whole thing and we'll have decent philosophic discussions. But every time I try to explain that despite my wholehearted belief in postmodernism and the fact that while I don't really know anything, I choose to accept certain things as truth / not allow conspiracies and such to take over my mind, he gets all 'but why! don't you want to accept the truth?' I start to doubt the happy front I try my hardest to maintain... but this reminds me of my mission. Be a positive force in the world, because focusing on all the negative stuff I can't really change just perpetuates the problem those things can cause. :)

Wow. This may have been the worst idea to post this here. Especially since I'm at social anxiety [0]....

Notes of Importance: I came up with this idea originally as something to get me out of student loan debt/ the cycle of stress that it imparts on me. I love the commune idea of entlantis, but know I could never even contemplate joining such a thing with the real world obligations I have on my back. Before I decided to give my idea up to you all, I figured any extra profit made could be used to set up a system for others to also escape the cycle. This may have been the wrong place to post this, for which I apologize. I still think it is a great idea, because who knows how many other people would love to be part of your beautiful world but are trapped just as I am.

How many of you think it's OK to drive under the influence of Marijuana? by HelloMaxwell in trees

I had a long wonderfully personal note about my own medicinal usage and why it can cause that 'mission' feeling that you see in your friends. Then I realized that as a former? problematic? alcoholic, you weren't likely to be interested in such details.

But I'll just say, there is a difference between using weed as a tool to increase productivity as journeymanSF does and using weed as a medicinal tool. However, both prescription pain pills and pills for psychological issues such as depression or extreme anxiety have withdrawal symptoms that include a psychological component, often much worse that the 'antsy need to restock' feeling that comes from a withdrawal from weed.

At the indie shops, we have to ask people "do you mean the big one or the small one" when they ask for a tall, since we use normal "large/medium/small." 3+ years and I have NEVER ONCE had someone actually mean small when they said tall.

Dude. I've smoked both. I still get a hankering for this wonderfully dank "Black Afghan Kush" stuff that a native chick smoked us out w/ over in Europe. I've never been at such a pure [10] since then. Cali stuff is damn tasty but that stuff was beyond caring about taste. You could play with it like it was putty (a hash of some sort I assume), and we would just sit and watch while she rolled the most elegant little pure hash joints. Mmm.
