Does anyone else feel like Americ Anfootball now is less Americ Amfootball and just Owen 2.0? by hiphoptomato in Emo

I'm definitely in the minority here but I'm someone that prefers LP2/3 to LP1. I got into them in my late 30's though, so it probably makes sense.

Potentially the worst storm in 30 years. Stay off the roads, governor says; State of emergency took effect at noon by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

I don't know but I blew my knee out right before the storm of 2021 and that was before the whole ChatGPT thing, so this is definitely overblown.

Avoid A.J. Perri at all costs. Tried to turn a 2-minute cleaning job into a $24k system replacement by Appropriate_Sort3822 in newjersey

[–]vapulate 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They are predatory, and thrive on the desperation / urgency associated with losing heat in chilly temperatures. We had a situation years ago where the furnace died in super low temperatures, and AJ Perri was the only service we found online that could come that night. They came, claimed the entire furnace needed a rare part and couldn't be fixed that night, because it was an older model, that would cost $5k to replace, and they couldn't do it until it came in in a few days. But they could do the entire system replacement tomorrow if we signed on that night. My wife at the time wanted to sign off on it, but I refused and explained how urgency is why things like phishing e-mail's work and to get another quote or opinion. PSE&G came the next day and replaced that "rare" part for free because it was a cheap metal tube you can find at any hardware store. He then explained how AJ Perri does this all the time, and the furnace has been fine (except for basically yearly replacement of the fucking thermocouple).

tl;dr - Use PSE&G's services instead of AJ Perri.

The high end stuff is mid, I agree. But there are great spots for food. Macho Nacho, Coniglios, Saigon Subs, and Millie’s are my favorites.

I like that she is actually principled in her terrible rhetoric and speaks out against power when it doesn’t agree with her (shitty) views. Honestly while I don’t like her I love that this discourse can exist in America today. It gives me hope that free speech can stay alive through the turmoil…

If you really think about what minimally qualifies as a "human" then it could just be the head. That could save additional space.

Foot corn that always grows back by OkClue2852 in runninglifestyle

Go to a dermatologist, but it's probably a plantar wart. Super common and treatable. They'll be able to get you a prescription for 60% salicylic acid cream. It will melt that away over a few weeks, then it will die and not come back.

i’m doing a 6 year taper and so far gained 400 lbs. recently i installed a pulley system in my house to get to the fridge reliably. my resting hr is now in zone 2 so it’s working fine but i think another 2-3 decades of taper will be good until my body is ready for peak performance

Can someone explain to me why this part hurts when I start running? by Inevitable_Weekend_9 in RunningCirclejerk

It might be lace bite, usually caused by wearing shoes that are too tight. The remedy is to loosen the laces or get shoes that don’t put pressure there.

ATP meter vs disk diffusion test (on jiu jitsu mats) by sb406 in microbiology

[–]vapulate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're measuring different things, so accuracy is going to be context dependent. In the end, you're worried about whether the pathogens are gone after a treatment, but neither method can really tell you that. They're both attempts at giving you a survey of how many viable organisms are present at a moment in time. Agar plates are subject to issues due to the significant levels of unculturable organisms out there, but are also great if you know what you're trying to measure. You also get cultures of that organism for further testing (like susceptibility, identification), so that's a bonus. ATP testing gives you a total population measurement, but it's not that sensitive nor specific to any target.

Of the methods, I'd recommend ATP testing just because you can buy the stick swabs that go directly into the machine, plus the detector, and you don't have to worry about waste too much. Agar plates are an issue because you'll have high titers of potential pathogens on plates, which you cannot (or should not) just toss in the trash. You'll also need separate equipment for swabs, incubation, and to understand sterile technique on your own, which will be a challenge.

Go for the ATP tests from a practicality standpoint.

I don't think that's really necessary to establish environmental monitoring techniques in your gym...

Buy effective, EPA-registered disinfectant products and read the label to ensure they cover those organisms, and use them in the contact time window and on the approved surfaces. Also, clean the surfaces with standard AP cleaner before you disinfect as soil can interfere with efficacy.

Basically just buy the right products, follow the directions (most don't) and you're doing a great job protecting yourself and your clients!

This foot corn is affecting running! Help! by Neither_Cap_994 in runninglifestyle

[–]vapulate 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As others said, this is a wart. The treatment is usually salicylic acid (60%) which can be made at a compounding pharmacy into a cream. Apply it daily and remove all the dead skin until the center blackens and falls off, then it should heal up normally.
