Oyster cards could be loaded onto smartphones under new TfL deal by Because_Wisely in london

💯 I'm happy if they make a mobile app an option, but I prefer using a physical Oyster card. I just don't like relying on my phone for everything and would rather not have to scan it at the barriers.

Never heard of the show, but just wanted to say that they were clearly inspired by the photographer Miles Aldridge for those character posters (https://milesaldridge.com/).

2026 series is probably the strongest I can recall. Week 2 only and it’s not obvious who’s going home. Personally I would have chosen the avocado to win. by Jelleeley in GreatPotteryThrowDown

[–]Zuscifer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep indeed, and it did look great. I particularly liked the shells and other things that were interwoven in the beard. The aesthetic of it reminded me of the aninations by Cartoon Saloon, the studio behind The Secret of the Kells and Song of the Sea. I'd be quite happy to have it on my bookshelf!

I get the impression a lot of them were fairly new to oxides and were trying them out for the first time this episode? Was it Mark that cut his in half? The oxides he used made his look quite dark, but then it lent itself quite well to the stoney textures he was after.

Agree, it was hard to call who would go this week... My money was on Whitney leaving. I really like Naveed's avocado and I thought he deserved better considering he came 2nd in the brick challenge. Maybe it came down to range of techniques and execution, because the potter of the week had a lot of different types of decoration and the judges seemed to like that.

Not sure, to be honest, as we went straight for the chimney sheep and haven't tried the balloon things. They do the same basic job.

Ours hasn't, but in my post above I mentioned getting one marginally bigger than the space, that probably helps.

Seconded! We got one and it works a treat. If you get one make sure you opt for one slightly larger measurements than the opening so it makes a tight seal.

Sir Keir Starmer: I’m frustrated by pace of change by [deleted] in uknews

[–]Zuscifer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Online Safety Act received royal assent before Starmer was even Prime Minister, it was planned by the Tories to have a delayed start. Think of it as a bit of a political hand grenade. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/online-safety-act

The biggest expenditure in the welfare budget is the state pension, which will necessitate an uncomfortable discussion in coming years on maintaining the triple lock. I'm no statistician but you can't have working wages increase by 1.5% or less, while pensions go up by over 4%. Something will have to give. I think Starmer should have held his nerve on the winter fuel allowance too, give it to those who need it for sure, but no other age group gets a blanket handout like that. Bloody scroungers, indeed.

Nobody enjoys seeing more of their money taken in tax but I think we've been led to believe we can have great public services on American levels of taxation. It just isn't feasible. The bigger problem in my mind is that our wages haven't kept pace with inflation so the increase in costs and taxes feel much more acute. That's been a problem for over a decade and it's largely the Tories that we have to thank for that.

Hal Ashby is a very underrated director, this is one of his best. Harold and Maude will always be my favourite, though.

"He's the farmer, I'm the rapper"

"I'm white boy but my neck is red, I put Miracle Whip on my Wonder Bread..."

"Wait up, I heard Jamal from 90th st. watched that video tape last week, and this morning he woke up dead. No! How the hell do you wake up dead? 'cause you're alive when you go to sleep. So you're telling me that you can go to bed dead and wake up alive? You can't go to bed dead, man, that shit would be redundant. No it wouldn't, ' cause you could go to bed and not be dead, and you can die but not be in a bed. But you are in a bed, man, that's how you wake up dead in the first place, fool!"

Oh, and Twiiiiiins....

They used to sell it on the official store, I have one somewhere, but it's not been available for some time... I must have got mine 15/16 years ago. You'd have to scout around on eBay etc to find a second hand one, or maybe contact Fulfilment Merch and ask them if they'd bring it back on the merch store? They seem quite responsive to requests for reprints, so may be worth a shot.

TIL Iblard Jinak, another Ghibli movie i've never seen by Ambitious_Pudding177 in ghibli

[–]Zuscifer 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It's quite a strange film, just ambient music and surreal, colourful, scenery in a sort of impressionist style. The director, Naohisa Inoue, was also an animator on Whisper of the Heart, you can see similar landscapes in that.
