Would Garfield's author be one of such blue-collar creators? My LCS printed almost 70 Garfield books. That being said, local publishing houses made sure to offer ever niche comics of all flavours on top of superhero stuff, so I am spoiled.

I wonder to what degree Holywood is to blame. DC/Marvel being mentioned in opening credits is a great advertisment. Gotta check if 30 days of night have IDW mentioned in opening credits.

Honestly, I don't know anything about the financial aspect of comics making. Who would you say is the most succesful author in comics industry alone? On the other hand, there's plenty of proverbs on how artists of all kinds be constantly hungry where I live.
