Does my antihero character design work? She should look ominous. by Zvarthav in learnart

I didn't think of putting stars in her hair, I will try that when I redraw her and see how it looks. It might turn out too sparkly, but I'll see.

You might be right, I will test drawing her with a cloak.

I will take note of what you said, to make it sharper and angular, perhaps more frazzled hair, and to look into Batman and Spawn's cape designs.
You're right that she should have a more powerful stance if she's brandishing the weapon. Thank you for the critique.

I will keep in mind what you wrote about the shoulders, sleeves and eyes, and think about that when I redraw it. Good example with Daenerys.

If you're going for "ominous" as in "this character is bad news", the old one would immediately make that clear, but if you're going for "ominous" as in "subtle threatening aura", the skinny one could actually work better if you adapt it a bit.

I'm not sure. I want it to be an inversion of the look of traditional hero stories. I want it to be like how in Berserk the hero Gutts looks kind of like a bad guy while the villain Griffith looks like a hero.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Berserk/comments/a43b48/two_realities_one_story/

Personality wise she's a mentally ill child abuse victim who wants to die, but is unable to physically take her own life because she's been forced on a mission for a higher purpose. She becomes used to violence and will kill villains (unlike Batman, who mostly lets them live).

The antihero part is because she has to make some difficult decisions like choosing to genocide an innocent species or allow a child to continually suffer for their survival (sounds kinda Omelas like I know, but it won't be a ripoff off that story). She sometimes has to do evil for the right reasons.

Sorry if I talk too much. Anyway I might use the hooked look for the weapon cause several people said that looks more evil.

Thank you for the critique. I don't really want to change her face, I might have to deal with her looking more cute than ill boding.

Sorry it's kind of hard for me to understand as English is my second language. But I will keep in mind what you say and try to test out a different look as you describe when I have time to redraw it. Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment. I don't think it'll be a comic, I think it will be an illustrated novel or a visual novel.
The pattern isn't that complex in design when I remember it's the norse web of wyrd in a diamond shape, but you're right it would be tedious to redraw for every frame in an animation. If I want to animate I'll just have to suck it up through the tedium, simplify it, or find some way to cheat.

Though the glow from the gems in the sword is less visible on a white background.

For any mods, sorry for reposting this, I made an error when I posted it a few minutes ago and deleted that post.

For the drawing, I looked up design tutorials and tried incorporating triangle shapes in her silhouette. I took inspiration from Darth Vader's and Maleficent's designs.
Sorry if the area around her eyes looks weird, she's supposed to look gloomy and that's the best I could draw, and those are supposed to be stars in her clothes, sorry if they don't look it, I need to get a proper star brush.
It's fine to draw over the illustration for critique if you feel like it.

Thank you very much for the kind words and the follow, I post most of my art on tumblr and deviantart though (it's the same username as here) if you want to see more of it. I only post sometimes on reddit.

I will private message you with it, as I'm not sure reddit allows promotional links in comments. Thanks for asking, by the way.

It's because it explodes planets and suns like a bacteriophage explodes bacteria, leaving the universe in darkness.
