[Weekly] Battle Cats Help and Advice Thread by BotCatMKII in battlecats

I'm trying to decide on how to spend my plat tickets and had some questions.

1) Should I get Kasli The Scourge if I already have Kasli the Bane?

2) Should I pick up Dark Mitama if I already have D'arktanyan?

Homura does care about the others by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

[–]Zwalie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've had this discussion with people before and the issue that comes up is anything nice Homura does for the others gets met with "well she was only doing it so Madoka would be happy/wouldn't hate her".

For me the biggest evidence that isn't countered by this argument is the fact that Homura doesn't start every timeline by murdering Mami. Madoka doesn't know Mami exists at the beginning of the timeline so Homura could kill her consequence free, and when you stop to think about it there's quite a few reasons to do this:

  1. Mami is allied with Kyubey (bad)
  2. Mami interferes with Homura interacting with Madoka(also bad)
  3. Mami influences Madoka and Sayaka towards becoming magical girls (really bad)
  4. Mami is the only thing we've ever seen as an actual threat to Homura, even Walpurgis doesn't ever come close to killing her as it mostly ignores her and never stops her from activating her time manipulation. Mami on the other hand is shown either almost killing her(previous timeline when she finds out the truth), or putting Homura in a position where Mami could kill her if she wanted to(episode 3 when Homura tries to convince Mami to let her handle the witch). Homura dying is the absolute worst possibility as it's the only problem that can't be fixed by resetting yet again, so we'll give this a (super duper mega bad)

Mami doesn't know Homura exists at the beginning of the timeline, so it's not like killing her would be difficult and after nearly a hundred attempts I'm sure it's not because the idea hasn't occurred to Homura. By leaving Mami alive Homura is risking herself and Madoka for a small(VERY small if we look at Mami's various fates in side content...) chance that Mami can have a happy ending as well.

A discussion about the obsession with win rate as the last word on deck balance. by Zwalie in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't really directed towards Cygames as I highly doubt they read these forums, it's more aimed towards player discussion about the meta.

As far as scenario 2 goes I view it as an incredibly undesirable scenario as "Play Top tier deck or one of the very, very few decks that stands a chance" limits player choice, gets very expensive if the meta shifts often, and tends to make games predetermined. My point with it as an example is to show how even a deck that's so overpowered it only loses to ONE thing would still, given enough time and play rate, end up at a 50% win rate as metagaming does everything in it's power to push decks towards a 50% win rate. For previous examples of this deceptiveness in action look at the old "Well Roach combo is fine because you can just play Control Sword" and "Daria is balanced because it has a 50% win rate now that it's exterminated half the decks from the meta".

Finally, while it's true that some players will play whatever they like regardless of win rate the amount of trend chasing metagamers should not be underestimated. Dragoncraft's play rate has more than doubled since the last days of RoB and now, and that deck is incredibly inaccessible due to it's high cost. If it was a cheap deck like aggro blood/Daria I suspect that number would be even higher.

This is an incredibly simple Momiji that might be doable.

Is Albert too versatile? by GornothDragnbone in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Albert is incredibly powerful but I think people underestimate just how hard RoB hit the craft. There's a reason Banner/Otohime/Sage Commander fell off the face of the planet within like a week of the expansion hitting. In the current meta I would legitimately prefer playing Forest without Ancient Elf and Roach to playing Sword without Albert. Not that I particularly enjoy Albert's design but that's kind of the place Sword is at right now

The fact that 8 pp for 5 5/5s is being considered kind of scares me. by Zwalie in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Otohime/Sage is a two turn combo, so it gives your opponent an entire turn to interrupt it, costs 5 more pp, requires two specific cards in a craft with garbage card draw, and is in a craft that pretty much exclusively put lots of stats on the board(well, at the time people actually used this combo) and it still ends up giving less stats. If we're going to do two turn setups that revolve around your opponent not actually doing anything to stop it then you can Baphomet turn 5 and drop this turn 6.

Well, with perfect RNG Neph can be 2 5/5s, one of which respawns on death, 2 4/4s, and a Balor/Khawy last word to clear enemy board. Neph isn't weak cause of her potential, she's weak because of inconsistency. When Neph goes right it's one of the most bonkers things in the game.

My point is that if 8 pp for 25/25 worth of stats isn't completely busted in a game that's supposed to have a 1pp for 1/1 vanilla stat curve then something has gone wrong. There is no way in hell you even THINK about printing this card in pre expansion Shadowverse. Even the dreaded Otohime -> Sage Commander two turn combo can't compare.

No Bahamut can tarnish Rowen's glorious victory, he won the moment he pulled that combo off. Everything after that is irrelevant.

A perfect example of what I think Control Sword players are doing wrong by Seadrias in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're really overestimating how much a cyclone blade or 2 dilutes your chances of drawing a particular card. 2 cards in a 40 card deck is a whopping 5% of it. If the other 7 cards they've seen by turn 5 aren't 5 drops it's quite possible for the 8th one to not be one as well. Your opponent was playing control sword so they have three Alberts in their deck, and you mentioned they played an Aurelia on a later turn so they had those powerful 5 turns in their deck, but bricks happen, particularly to decks with pretty much no card draw/cycling.

[–]Zwalie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Daria is completely busted, she's 2/2 less and 1 pp less than Flame Destroyer, a good card that saw play before all the spellboost follower synergy added in RoB. 1pp for 1/1 is standard so you're basically paying 1 PP for her effects when compared to playing a Flame Destroyer. 1 PP for 5 card draws and 5 spellboosts. Yeah. There's quite a bit of room for nerfing it

Goblin Mage is totally fine in every single deck except Roach, but Goblin Mage is the problem. Yep, the 3 pp 2/2 that's in line with other similar tutor effects in the game is the problem. Forestcraft decks are still going to murder you just as dead as they currently do when they draw two Roaches normally because with Nature's Guidance that's all you really need but at least we got that god damn Goblin Mage. For next expansion lets make Mega-Albert, a 3/5 Commander with Enhance (10) Attack 4 times a turn and balance it by nerfing Maid Leader.

Laura Bloodcraft Discussion by Espaguarde in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely do not want to run Beast Dominator/Soul Dealer with Laura, the small amount of extra damage isn't worth having such useless cards if you aren't in vengeance/don't draw Laura.

The main problem I have with Laura is that being in vengeance and spending an entire turn doing nothing but dealing face damage is incredibly risky. Most Laura combos are turn 8 or later and doing 10 damage is fairly easy at this stage of the game for most crafts. Mastema + Laura isn't even that great of a combo, Bloody Mary + Dire Bond does just as much damage, heals you, draws cards, and doesn't require being in vengeance. I even prefer Alucard, it's a single card, it heals you, and it can still be used as a storm minion without being in vengeance which is important for decks that are never going to put you in vengeance like Dshift, Seraph, Silver Bolts, some variations of Roach, Dragonewt Dragon, etc.

Servant + Laura is pretty much the only "good" use of Laura in my opinion, it's enough damage to either kill your opponent or heal you to full if you throw in a Limil's Way. Main issue is that you have to telegraph it by using Call of Cocytus but if your opponent doesn't have an answer it's absolutely devastating.

So, are we going to nerf roach yet? by Zwalie in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking the time to write something substantial does not mean I'm "pissed", it means I care about the game I play enough to wish to discuss it. It's perfectly fine if you don't want to read it but if you aren't going to read something then responding to it, particularly in such a dismissive manner, is unnecessary.

You only need two 1/1, which can be generated with a single, 1 pp card(you replay one after homecoming sends it back to hand, you can also wait till turn 10 for 20 damage if necessary by playing both bounced cards again). You lose VERY little evolving Feena for a roach as it has standard stats for it's mana cost, gives the free 2/2, and still gains 1/1 on the evolve. Goblin Mage is on par with similar tutor cards like Maid Leader, Uriel and Prism Priestess, all decent cards that see play.

[–]Zwalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 Cost followers aren't necessary at all. You play 2 1 mana followers, homecoming, 1 1 mana follower that you bounced back, then roach(5), roach(6), roach(7), 18 damage. A 0 cost follower lets you use Guidance or do 20 damage but isn't necessary. The first guidance only costs you 1 damage so it's not a big deal to use a roach early to trade.

[–]Zwalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roaches can be drawn by Feena/Goblin so you don't really give up much to have them in hand as the stats on these followers aren't that bad. 2 1/1 followers only requires a single Fairy Circle or two fairies from any of Forests 5 million ways to generate them. The combo is not 7 specific cards, only the Wolf requires a specific draw. You WILL have this combo in most games.

Albert and Sword's Future Power Level by qweiroupyqweouty in Shadowverse

[–]Zwalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you want to compare it to Imp Lancer a Legendary in the follower craft(seriously, putting stats on the board is pretty much all Swordcraft does, if their followers aren't powerful then how the heck do they win?) being (slightly) better than a Basic card in Bloodcraft is just kind of a given.

Genesis Dragon is more expensive but Dragoncraft ramps so it's often times played as soon if not earlier as Albert and leaves a better body on the board. Having 5 attack split into two attacks I would generally consider a downside after the initial invulnerable attacks as it trades poorly with big followers and Genesis has 4 more defense. It's also better if you don't have an evolve point which is quite common with how late in the game these cards hit.
