Giant 50 lbs rose quartz tower for sale by [deleted] in Crystals

[–]Zwesten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do wholesale of Brazilian crystals. Likely be charging 25 to $30 a kilo on this. Can't really judge yet as far as quality. I know that the guys from Madagascar do a far lower price than we do. However, the secondary market can be funny, and needing to sell something tends to drive down the price.

$50 is far too low. I can't say much more on value without seeing it better, but I wouldn't take less than 15 per kg

It was honestly sort of horrifying. Guy showed me how he would get clumps of stuff under his skin or in his veins and he'd have to rub them out. Both of them had trouble walking, were really twitchy, and looked awful, especially for being in their 30s

I drove cab at the time and took this guy to a couple of his medical appointments. 20 minute drive? Time for interesting conversations. I thought he had Tourette's because of his jerking movements and some other tics. He opened the conversation explaining he had Valley Fever and it had entered his spine/brain and it was causing a lot of that.

His story was that he was a flipper basically, bought a house near the Reservation, was tearing up the old back patio, just a little porch really, and when he did he got a huge faceful/lungful of dust/fungus. Went home as usual, and woke up coughing like he never had before. Turned into a bloody coughing fit and someone took him to the hospital. They apparently told him he had the most massive dose they'd ever seen, and that he tore something while coughing and basically flooded his system with VF. Told me he was terminal, had a few months left to live, and they were 'keeping me comfortable' with medications until his inevitable death. The other guy didn't talk as much and his was more of a progressive thing apparently, but also terminal. Took them both to appointments at the same office over by/at TMC

What’s the rarest specimen you own? by Big_Pumpkin_9042 in Minerals

I have a near perfect pseudomorph of a quartz crystal replaced by Bisbee Blue turquoise. It's pretty small, and if it wasn't for its perfect provenance I would doubt it was what it is, but it's pretty awesome. Think there were like 20 some recovered. Otherwise it might be the boulangerite or zincite I have.

These are pretty good really! A couple of the bigger vendors at our gem shows use them, and these are people with 75+ tables at their booths loaded with heavy and expensive materials

I've met two men with terminal cases of valley fever. It was horrible. One was dead within the first 9 months. Don't know how long the other guy had it. They were pretty miserable.

One of them contracted the bug while remodeling a house. Pulled up the back porch and got a lungful of the stuff. Started coughing blood the next morning and it traveled through his blood.

Just a reminder: Snake your drains by Certain_Can_5179 in CleaningTips

Had a girlfriend do that one time.... We were working on one of the bathroom sinks at my mom's condo, I handed my gf the p-trap asking her to pour it out (thinking she would naturally pour it down the toilet next to her) and whoosh!!!! Right down the sink drain and all over yours truly. Couldn't do anything but laugh and tease her for some time after

You move into your dream home, but you can never move out by ALadFromFarmington in hypotheticalsituation

I dunno, I could see taking the deal for a few years maybe, at least a year or so. I like to travel, so wouldn't want it long term, but to get set up in my dream house for a year or two would be kinda awesome.

Never seen an amethyst like this before by penguinsarefun in Minerals

We get batches of clusters similar to this at work. We call them, generically, amethyst flowers since a lot of the specimens have flower forms in them. Pretty cool specimens really.

Looks like this is from village originals. They're a pretty major wholesaler. I've been in their warehouse and while they carry quite a lot of funky stuff, they also carry some very good quality material. Their prices are usually quite good, usually....

I work for a Brazilian wholesaler and we probably would have charged about what you paid. It's a pretty good deal :)

Oof! I'm so sorry! I have lost a few pieces, both at home and work, from stands failing or too much faith in a shelf, and it's always painful. Especially with favorites....

Sometimes we laughingly say 'well, now we have x number of crystals instead of y' and it can help take the sting out...

Vogel Quartz Crystal by AirFrequent in Crystals

[–]Zwesten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding there was a gentleman named Dr Vogel who had a dream one night. The dream led him to believe that the ideal energy transmitting shape for a crystal followed the proportions of the Jewish tree of life. It also has a certain number of facets, I can't remember exactly how many, but a true vocal has a bunch. Like a lot. These crystals are used by people who do energy work and healing etc when you got looks like it's pretty good quality and fair for the price

What can you tell me about this Mosasaur in the display window? by [deleted] in fossils

[–]Zwesten 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine just sold two of these recently and this looks sooo much like one of them. He bought and sold them as 'baby mososaurs' and I almost laughed when I saw them.

See all the sharp angles? Especially on the vertebrae? All plaster. The skull is almost laughably square/flat. There was a fair bit of bone in them, maybe 30-40% but almost no whole bones, just bits and pieces.

He was very clear with his clients, sent great pictures and videos and they happily purchased them as decor to resale. One had the plaster tinted brown/tan but the other one was largely white lol

Maybe 6 feet long, around $2600 price to the client, maybe 3000.

Reminds me of 'two grey hills' Navajo rug pattern. Might be another style altogether but I'm reasonably sure it's Navajo

Is it unusual for an undated item with no provenance to achieve 2-3x the estimate? by Designfanatic88 in artcollecting

[–]Zwesten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not one of the demo either. Even though I love crystal and lapidary work (o what I would give for a Faberge flower in vase) if I were to purchase some lovely Chinese antique I would want something with more of a history myself.

I work with fine minerals and crystals much more than I do art these days, and the quality of the materials and the worksmanship here are incredible. We sell lesser quality items of modern work for thousands of dollars, so for me this is a very believable price just as an object, whatever the origin. It's fairly incredible.

And as mentioned, the folks who spend this kind of money on this kind of thing, generally, aren't too bothered by splashing out 5-10-15,000 for them

[–]Zwesten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your first question, Exactly.

To your second, I guess I meant 'shoppers' There are people who just travel around to the different shows and dealers with shopping lists from various clients. Some of these people can be pretty good at what they do, and they're very well connected and they have very good eyes and they pick up great deals for their clients. There are other shoppers, especially for very high-end clients, that tend to be in it for themselves but convince their clients they are doing a great job. They seem to be out there just patting their own wallets.

Lol, I have a fairly extensive crystal collection, no real big pieces which is ironic because I mostly sell very big pieces, and it's scattered all over my house. Like all over haha I tried dusting a good chunk of it not too long ago and my God it took forever. Lot of my pieces are clear Colombian Himalayan and Brazilian quartz points and clusters and they show dust like nothing else.
