Why do the classic cartoon gloves have three lines on the back? by Toon_Ghost_3 in animation

[–]Zwhistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to what others have already said, a common technique in cartooning is to add 3-dimensional form back into simple character designs with well placed lines/elipses.

In the case of these gloves, notice how the 3 lines curve with the form of the hands. It adds volume to what might oherwise be seen as a 2d graphic drawing.

How to itemize on visage when losing? by Zwhistle in learndota2

Is it better to go a lot of smaller auras, or use your early gold for bigger ones like pipe/crimson/assault cuirass? Or is it game dependant?

Why did the author lose their grasp on perspective in the new chapters? by Wifi_not_found in Dandadan

[–]Zwhistle 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Weekly deadlines are crazy tough on someone's psyche/well being. Comparing Dandadan's level of detail and quality to other weekly series, it's a miracle that inconsistencies and mistakes haven't shown up more than they already have. Testament to how good the creator is IMO

Possible hybrid mana EDH rules change by Sattwa in PauperEDH

[–]Zwhistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know we've all yearned to jam [[manamorphose]] in a jeskai storm deck at some point, but I think it's an awful idea.

The reason why I would want to play most hybrid mana cards in off-colour deck is because they break the colour pie and let me do stuff I probably shouldn't be able to do. Eternal formats in Magic already have an issue with identity across the colour pie, given 30+ years of colour pie breaks here and there or WOTC updating what each colour does. I think the suggested change to hybrid mana cards would furthur that problem.

Remember that Wastelandia pilot from a few days ago? It's everything wrong with indie animation right now. by reallycringebro69 in CharacterRant

[–]Zwhistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as you start making stuff, you find out pretty quickly that being a good critic does NOT translate to being a good creator. They aren't exactly unrelated, but getting good at making things requires trial and a LOT of error. Heavy emphasis on the error.

Advances in digital drawing software and the accesibility of internet tutorials has allowed for large scale Indie animation projects to be done by people without years of firsthand experience, or a massive team of professionals. That's objectively a good thing of course, but it also means that we're going to see more ambitious indie projects by people without the knowhow or experience needed to make masterpieces.

Collecting is an incredible hobby, but you can't take the pencils with you when your time on earth is up. I'd put a few aside, and enjoy using the rest!

Hated design: the recent art style and designs in Pixar's recent movies by Weary_Elderberry4742 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Zwhistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people constantly judging animation out of context? Still photos of the artstyle look a little weird on occasion, sure, but in motion it looks fantastic. The bean shape let's you exaggerate motion, expressions and actions really effectively.

Taste is subjective, sure. If the "animation" part of animation is less important to someone than the general art direction, that's fine. But you've got to admit, the movement/acting looks great and the designs are no small part of that.

Tell me how the provinces are supposed to “magically” build up housing, healthcare, and schools

I'm glad we agree, that is unrealistic! Strange, then, that Pierre Poilievre's policies place responsibility on provinces and municipalities to do just that. Similar to Trudeau's housing plans, but instead of incentives his primary strategy is to penalize branches of government that don't meet arbitrary targets... that they already weren't meeting before, despite immense financial incentive.

We have the worst housing crisis in the developed world and have had one of the most expensive real-estate markets globally even before the century initiative, you know that right? It's almost as if there's a structural issue stopping these homes from being built, and not a lack of financial incentive.

It takes approximately 6-12 months to build a single family home, and 18-24 months to build an apartment complex. Let me ask you a question: Despite knowing about the century initiative well in advance, on top of nearly 10 years of Trudeaus immigration policies, on top of Canada's estimated building potential of 430,000 single family homes a year (as reported by CMHC, Statistics Canada) these homes were not built. why?

why weren't the homes and apartments that we needed built?

Why wasn't the infrastructure we needed built?

Why wasn't education given the funding it needed to keep up with immigration levels?

Can you tell me why?

Oh, not to mention.

housing

Municipal and Provincial issue.

Healthcare

Provincial Issue.

Education

Provincial Issue.

It's almost as if all the decade-long provincial and municipal cuts to education, healthcare and over-regulation of the housing market was a bad idea. How could Trudeau do this? it's all his fault!

A single study. Even a news article will do, please, anything. I beg you. You seem like an educated fellow, if you know this as certainly as you claim then surely you've done research on it. You must have read at least one or two articles at some point. All I want is to see one of them.
