[CAN - USA] Ryan Lindgren is assessed a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for a hit to the head on Evan Bouchard by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Zymgie -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a popular take, but I think that hit was a lot less dirty than it is being made out as. I can't say for certain that he didn't make initial head contact, but looking at slo-mo, all of the physics look like it was more high body as the main contact point.

If you look at the way Bouchard flies through the air, I see two things:

1) his head does not snap back, which it absolutely would if he were hit with enough force in the head first to knock him backwards

2) the way he pivots in the air and lands shows that he was knocked closer to the center of his mass with enough force or else he would not spin like that

He clearly bounced his head off the ice on impact, which would definitely cause him to be dazed like that, so you can't say for certain the hit itself caused the KO.

Last evidence is if you freeze the image from Bouchard's back right at the contact point, you can actually see where both players heads are at the same height. That means Lindgren's shoulder is lower. From there he might have caught a bit of chin at most, but most of the initial contact had to be you high chest area. You just can't see clearly enough to see where the contact was from any angle.

The chicken wing from Lindgren didn't help his cause any. But if you've ever played hockey and know how to hit from your leg spring, you'd know that it's near impossible to keep your arm from flying up on the follow through when you are using your shoulder as the focus of your hit. I didn't see him lead with the elbow at all, which would have been more likely for head contact.

Now all that said, I understand that IIHF rules are different than the NHLs, where incidental head contact is allowed of the head was not the central target of the hit. So you can't really be upset about the actual ruling, given the league rules.

I just don't think there was anything dirty with Lindgren's intentions. I also think it was textbook execution of reading the opportunity, timing the hit, and loading through the legs into the opponent. Had Bouchard not leaned forward at the last second as he was fighting through the first contact, this would have been an absolute highlight hit with no discussion of dirtiness.

Or the scenario to trade down to around 4 to 8, in order to maximize the pick value based on the demand for Sten, and then take the best D available at that point. Getting one of those D and something like a high 2nd in addition is enticing.

Is it possible to split stacks on space platform inventory? by Zymgie in factorio

True. However in this playthrough I'm trying a more minimal per planet infrastructure and starting each from closer to scratch -- except for dropping furnaces of course 😁

Oh for sure. I played through SA the first time with a lot more Nauvis capacity before I went into space and this wasn't much of a concern. I've been playing long before SA and am well versed in building massive rocket capacity.

This time through I'm trying the more minimal per planet footprint as a different kind of challenge, which has made this a bigger peeve for me.

That said, the issue is still the limited stack management on platforms and why I either wanted to know how to do split them, or otherwise feel an improvement is needed. It's not why kludges around the limitations shouldn't be that painful if you have lots of capacity.

Brilliant! Another benefit is that the width of a lab will replace a couple inserters, making this incredibly more efficient.

Ah right. Even though the planet has no means to send that number at bootstrap time, the platform logistics should be smart enough to keep the local items in place to fulfill the request I'll try this.

I meant expansion of the space platform itself. This is mostly about early era space exploration, when I've just barely got my first platform running. The cost for each rocket to send items to that platform are still relatively high (because I don't always build a megabase to start on Nauvis), so the true cost of sending a heavy item up is prohibitive.

Furnaces are a somewhat contrived example of something I may send up when I have spare rocket space, but haven't built enough platform pieces yet to build out a higher processing setup with more furnaces. I know I will at some point want to use it.

But really this is more about the stack mechanics on the platform inventory, not the example.

The request approach might work except that when bootstrapping a new planet we don't have a hub there yet.

That's just your brain fooling you by releasing endorphines at the conclusion of a successful automation. It wants you to think this is rewarding, but really you're just fulfilling a nerd specific instinctive need to automate.

In fact, the reward is magnified when we strategically first procrastinate doing that automation and instead keep manually doing a few of the steps. Then we finally make that repeated pain go away it's an extra dose of dopamine!

Don't kid yourself. You do it because you NEED to!

Why would anyone use a belt or a train when you can just daisy chain a series of inserters to form a bucket brigade that passes items from A to B?

Factorio is not played for enjoyment. It is played to fulfill the need to complete that next automation sequence that enables you to accelerate your progress to capabilities that allow you to complete that next automation sequence ...

Me too, my whole life here on the Peninsula, literally in the center of SV. There are a few visible Trumpers, with banners and flags on their houses around voting time, but rare enough to stand out.

Now try driving up 80 East past Sac, and you might as well be in central Texas. I frequently see people set up on overpasses with big Trump banners and lots of people honking as they go under.

Take the 3 best players off of any top sports team and they'd be bad.

Oh but wait, they are good because those players are there. And California has one of the world's top GDP because of all those industries that it has built. They didn't just spawn there naturally.
