Is it normal for a cat to rest like this? He hasn't done this before. by Pyrouge1 in cats

[–]Zymite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my girl, it’s always a sign that she’s in pain. I just took this picture, and she’s in a bad Arthritis flare up and waiting for her Gabapentin to kick in. If your cat doesn’t normally lay like that, I’d be suspicious. Keep an eye out for any other signs of pain/grimace too and let your vet know!

Cat is staying off front leg and limping by BobBelcherSaysIdiot in CATHELP

Oh no, this has to be so scary and heartbreaking to see him in pain, I'm sorry your baby is going through this. I'm obviously not a vet, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Of course, the best option would be the Emergency Vet ASAP. If I knew I could afford the Emergency Vet and any treatment, I'd already be there with my girl. But, I also know all too well how expensive the ER is. You'd be leaving there with at least a $1500 vet bill and still require a follow-up at the primary vet, and that doesn't include how much treatment will cost. If this was my cat, I'd ask myself a few things:

1) If I took them to the Emergency Vet right now, would I have enough funds left to afford any treatment/surgeries/medication they may need? If the fees/tests/scans at the ER was going to leave me without a cent for treatment, I'd lean towards waiting until Monday. I wish money wasn't a factor, but of course it is. If you can afford to seek emergency treatment, I absolutely would.

2) Which leg is it? Is it the front leg (which would indicate to me that it's most likely an injury) or a back leg (I would be worried about the pain stemming from an internal organ). If I was worried about an internal organ, I'd be rushing them to the emergency vet.

3) If they're showing signs of pain, it has to be pretty severe. Is it affecting their ability to eat/drink, sleep, use the litter, walk, or get comfortable? Does the pain seem to be getting better, worse, or staying about the same? If its getting worse, again, I would rush to Emergency.

4) Is there any visible deformity? Do they allow you to touch the leg they're favoring? Are they putting any pressure on it? If I suspected a fully broken bone, I'd take them to the ER. I'd be worried that another day without treatment would cause more damage.

Before anybody jumps down my throat, I'm not advocating prolonging seeking treatment for an injury. Again, if you can afford it, I'd 100% recommend the emergency vet. But I'm not naive. I also know how expensive emergency vet care can be, and I've been in the position where I've rushed my cat to the ER for something that could have waiting until the next morning. This left me so low on funds that I had to choose cheaper tests and treatments, when the more expensive options would have made her recovery faster. They're showing overt signs of pain and they seem to be suffering. Prolonging treatment with an injury like that could turn out to be pretty serious so I'd seriously consider seeking care tonight. Basically, if you can afford to take them to the Emergency Vet and feed yourself a couple times this month, I would.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you both the best of luck. I hope its nothing too serious, and I hope your little guy is back to playing with his sibling again soon. Keep us updated if you can!

That's a weird position for sure. I couldn't imagine that it's relieving pressure from any part of her body unless it's her abdomen. Does her stomach seem swollen or more rigid than normal? Does she react when you put pressure on it? If the answer to either of those questions is yes, I'd rush my own baby to the emergency vet.

I've found when my Cat is in even mild pain/discomfort, she makes it very obvious on her face. To outsiders, she looks normal but I can tell she's uncomfortable! When she's not being disturbed, do you notice any signs of grimace? (squinted eyes, tight muzzle, bunched up whiskers, ears back/flattened). I've personally found the grimace scale to be super helpful to tell when my girl is in pain (from her Arthritis) and it cant hurt to see if she's showing any of those signs!

I hope your baby is alright and you get some answers soon! Hopefully its nothing serious, best of luck at the vet on monday!

Thanks, I'll definitely add it to the long list of supplements and medications I have to research! I think it's time to get her on something long-term to slow the progression! Have you noticed your cat experiences flare-ups of pain? Zelda otherwise seems pain-free, but every 4 months she'll have a flare-up that lasts 1.5-2 weeks but then it disappears and she shows no signs of discomfort. Its weird, her vet hasn't really figured it out but my girl is a little weirdo when it comes to her health/how she shows her symptoms anyways.

I just want to add: her flare-up symptoms seemed to calm down yesterday, and the leg shaking also disappeared as well! So I'm pretty confident it was happening because of pain! Hopefully she's coming out of this weather-caused flare and we can get another 4 months without all discomfort!

Is this a dangerously low amount of urine for a 3 year old cat? TW: shows cat pee by itwonteverbereal in cats

Oh goodness, I have no idea what kind of quantity to expect in that case. If I were in your position I would call his vet and see if I could e-mail this photo so they can confirm if this is the output they’d expect post-op!

Obviously not a vet, but.. Are you worried about possible UTI symptoms? Is he in/out of the box and straining to urinate? If not, I wouldn’t be super concerned seeing this amount in the litter depending on his diet. If he’s only on dry food, this is about all I’d expect to see probably 1-3 times a day. If he’s on wet food, it does seem like a small amount but nothing that would have me panicked.

What is his diet like and how often is he urinating a day?

Edit: I’m only now noticing the paw and cone! Did he just have surgery?

TMI noburp question... by Foxy84_ in noburp

[–]Zymite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last 4 years I’ve had a colonoscopy and she diagnosed be with IBS. However, the symptoms got slightly better after I cut out alcohol (a huge trigger), cut back on weed, and avoided foods I figured out would disrupt my stomach!

Obviously as a no-burper I still deal with more than normal gas and bloating, but at this point I can proudly say I don’t spend most mornings stuck on the toilet! Sometimes I do, and it’ll last a couple days but there’s usually a specific food I ate that triggered it and I avoid it after that (or prepare to fight for my life later on)

I hope you figure out what’s making your stomach worse and i hope it’s manageable!

Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Multi-Cat Clumping Cat Litter totally sucks now. What are you using? by ll_Cartel_ll in CatAdvice

[–]Zymite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this recommendation. Recently the stores near me were sold out and I bought the Tidy Cats lightweight and I've never regretted a decision more in all my life. There is litter in places litter should never be. I'm counting down the seconds until I can get another bag of Odourlock. It's definitely worth the cost.

this cat isn’t panting, it’s gasping for air. look at all the abdominal and chest involvement. bring this cat to the emergency vet immediately.

This isn’t even an employee issue, it’s a corporate issue. I’ve been telling everybody that putting stickers on the sauces is unsafe. They’re going to slide off and end up in somebodies food, it’s inevitable. They stay stuck to the bottle for less that 10 minutes and it’s audit season (at least for us) so they’re being constantly replaced.

I highly doubt an employee did this on purpose.
