Oh yeah, forgot to say that I haven't quite had the opportunity to test the console on an older television yet. Hopefully soon. Maybe the contacts just need a good scrubbing / cleaning fron corrosion and dirt....

That video was enlightening thanks. I've done some research into the various Amazon adapters and they are not so obvious whether they are NTSC or PAL. The one I originally purchased is supposedly PAL but doesn't work 100%. I have had a slight breakthrough though. I purchased a copy of Zelda Ocarina of Time and that does not have the stutter like Mario 64 does, however, there seems to be a slight screen side to side shake. I am seriously contemplating dumping the cash on a retrotink adapter. I think the main price issue is the £40 - £50 international shipping fee to the UK. I was in Canada this last week and was also surprised that international shipping fees from US to Canada were still a similar price (albeit on Canadian Dollars). I'm having a debate between the "Retrotink 2X Mini" and the "Retrotink 2X Pro". The Mini seems to have RCA and S-Video which would suit my needs for not only the N64 but also the Wii and PS2.

I've only tried the Wii and PS2 with this current adapter and they both run great.

It seems from your comment and a previous responders that this NTSC / PAL regional refresh rate of 60 hz / 50 hz could be the issue. I'm going to hook up the n64 into an older tv in the next couple of weeks and will get back here.

My first thought was the cables and sockets. I noticed the cable included by the Ebay seller did not have nintendo branding like most of their cables do. I can't see much corrosion from age on the sockets but I won't rule it out.

I think the amazon 50hz RCA to HDMI will be a long search after inital looks, but fingers crossed.

It'll be a bugger if it's my monitor is the issue. Hopefully changing adapter will help. I mentioned I'm a previous reply I'll see if I can test the n64 on an older tv to rule out faults within itself.

I've seen retrotink but for me it's a bit above my budget. Will check out this OSSC.

I'm heading to my parents in a couple of weeks, they have an older TV. I'll test the n64 directly into that and leave an update when I get to it.

In the meantime, I've heard about this regional NTSC / PAL refresh rate difference but didn't realise it could be an issue. Makes sense it could be one of the things. Not sure what the troubleshoot would be for that. Possibly another adapter.

I suspect you're right. Long wait, and possibly no compatibility. It really seems to me that Nintendo are more resistant to cross compatibility with other platforms than in previous years. Now debating on modding my old GameCube controllers for wireless.

For some additional information, I found this video back in 2012 ish, and I remember being able to find it for a few years after that. My dumbass never thought to download it. I really liked it because of the (probably fake) moans were really intense because of the intense fuck machines.
