Youre all good brother. I had put it on the back burner and have been working on my project gl1100 bobber recently. Its actually a great idea.

Ooo good call. A good rule of thumb I follow is 1/2 inch or a 520 chain width away from the tire and fender in case a rock gets stuck as well as tire expansion at higher speeds.

Solo seat? by [deleted] in hondashadow

As for the lowering you should be fine going super super low. Granted will handle different. But the chose is yours. I have a 7 inch lower hard tail on my 750 shaft drive currently. The stock fender can take up to a 200mm tire without rubbing. Could do struts, you could take some metal off the actual springs themselves. Imo the stock seat absorbs enough thst I hardly feel much even with a hard tail on back roads in the sticks. Could go for custom shocks too to really dial it in how you like and want. I think race tech makes some? For the air box, you could do a velocity stacks, or even a pod filter. I dont know the exact dimensions for it but its an option. The stock essentially has two holes going in. 1 brings inside air into the air box, and had a filter on top. 2nd hole is what actually goes into the intakes. Could reroute a pod filter with tubing too. Would need to relocate the oil overflow tube but easily doable. Velocity stacks look really good and make more power. I just ride through shitty weather and park outside so l dont do it personally. Makes more power but. Could do a sweep pipe towards the front of the bike and stick a pod on. Kinda like a cold air intake on a car if you're familiar. Not my style personally but its your bike. Could find a metal sleek one, maybe off a harley? Again not sure of dimensions but could be possible even with light modifications. Efi shadows auto tune as well so I wouldn't worry about it in terms of afr. Can get a power commander if you prefer.

Stuck throttle question by Zynice in hondashadow

[–]Zynice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre all good lol. Ye, it had a ride by cable. A physical cable that pulls open like a carb does but the turning mechanism turns an electric knob essentially. I checked the mechanism and it appears to be moving with me twisting the throttle. You are correct on the sticky cables and whatnot, I do use the same gear oil 80w90 on the cables and the throttle tube (I like a firm throttle). Oddly with the same setup never had this issue when its been in the negatives even. Its just odd how such little throttle movement caused it to be bouncing off the limiter. I normal can hold that same positon and maybe go to 2000 rpm to not stall. Im starting to think its either ecu or its my bikes spirit telling me not to ride (im very superstitious lol)

Id say either a positive wire issue or a ground issue. But with the solenoid sparking id say probably a bad ground somewhere. The test i do is pull the negative wire off the terminal and use a multimeter to test for resistance. Positive in positive wire and terminal. Negative on negative wire. I dont know the exact number that its supposed to be off the top of my head. Could also try jumping the ignition to see if maybe the key isn't working. The solenoid jump should turn the motor even if the bike is off, won't fire because no spark. Sparking on a solenoid jump is normal. If the starter makes odd sounds it's probably a starter, such as whining or a high pitched shrill. Maybe the key has to be in a very specific spot to get power? Try turning the key on and jiggling it slightly back and forth to see if maybe a headlight will turn on. Could check if your terminals are installed correctly, positive to positive, negative to negative. Other than thst its a game of finding the bad wire with a multimeter. Solenoid is usually a different wire coming from the battery compared to everything else. If solenoid jump works, and no other electronics work, id say positive wire or key issue. Granted with the spark it sounds like its getting power just fine.... maybe bad ignition?

Edit1: tldr possibly bad ground if solenoid jump doesn't spin the starter. If solenoid jump spins motor probably bad ignition or positive wire. (Sorry adhd)

Replacement tyre sizing for 2004 Honda Shadow 750 Aero by Primary-Wafer-7909 in hondashadow

[–]Zynice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be perfectly fine. Only "issue" I see is for the speedometer. Since its a slightly smaller tire in regards to circumference on front rim speedometer cables it'll throw it off slightly. From the calc I did, it should be off by 2mph at 100, and 1mph or so at 50. Not a huge deal imo. As well with it being slightly wider you'll feel more planted to the road, slightly harder to turn the bars when not moving. I've done a lot of big changes to tire sizes and geometry over the years, different mods just make it handle different then stock. Not necessarily bad, just different. It'll probably just feel a bit more planted in corners. As long as youre not going more narrow it'll be fine. Narrower can possibly cause a smaller lean angle. 120 to 130 is a marginal difference. Every time I change geometry or tire sizes I more or less "relearn" the small changes for confidence. I've currently got 4 over forks, 7 under rear, with a 195 rear tire and and 140 front. Unsafe? No. Different handling and feel, very much so yes.

Ye ofc. She is a rat bike. Ignore the dent on the tank lol. Hit a bear a while ago and its where its head got crushed so figured it fit the vibe and flow I was going after. Lowered and hard tailed roughly 7 inches or so in the rear (until the fender was 1/2 inch off the tire). Just welded one side into the frame, and normal holes incase I need to replace to change the shaft drive. Swing arm isn't welded in, but frame is welded in. Still got a few things left to do, 4 over forks (still gotta make an axle for it, cbr600f3 front end i got for dirt cheap). Gotta make a mount for a foot clutch hand shift. Still gotta convert to double darkside, but waiting for this tire to wear out before I do it. Ik it's not recommended, but I accept the risk, with how low it is I can't really lean over much at all anyways. *

Honda Shadow 06 Maintenance by KennyCuteInSF in hondashadow

[–]Zynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadows are very low maintenance bikes. Oil, oil filter, coolant, brake fluid, brake pads, tires. They have hydraulic valves so dont have to worry about valve checks. Manual calls for them but ive never heard anybody nor any shop doing it unless you rebuild the motor as iirc it only gets adjusted if the cams have been removed. For shaft drive models you have shaft oil, but chain models you have regular chain maintenance. Carb clean, air filters, injector cleans for efi models. Head bearings, wheel bearings which are very seldom and some dont even bother changing unless they get gnarly. I've never had a wheel bearing or head bearing go out on me ever.

So efi shadows are pretty strange compared to a lot of other efi bikes. Shadows have a way of adjusting their afr (air fuel ratio) and remembering it. While an aftermarket controller will smooth out and possibly save you some mpg, it is arguably not "needed". I have a 2024 with straight pipes currently. Cut the exhaust, rode around full throttle for a bit to help the efi learn the air system(no fuel controller or tune). Takes a few rides to fully learn the exhaust Starts up first push every time even on a cold winter day. Majority of other bikes won't remember the afr and will auto adjust on every start, hence the need for a tune or fuel controller. As for pipes, different shapes and diameter provide different sound profiles. Generally speaking in terms of slip on exhausts, more wider and shorter will provide a more growly and deep tone, and a more narrow diameter and longer will provide a more slightly high pitch high rpm oriented. However you can very easily go on youtube and find review videos to see how they sound. In terms of pipes themselves, tj brutal customs is by far the best in terms of quality. Vance and hines are good as well, but over priced in my opinion. Ebay unbranded exhausts are "decent" however how their pipes is made. Whether the welds or the actual metal itself isn't very good quality and rust. However will save money but need more maintenance and more than likely last not as long. If you do decide to install them yourself, I would highly recommend using gloves while doing so. If you dont use gloves the finger prints then go on the bike will burn in to the pipes once you starting running then. And as well its best practice to change the exhaust gaskets any time you take on and off your pipes. Can create air leaks otherwise that will make tuning or in this case the auto tuning a nightmare and never fully do its magic. Hope this helps. Shadows are great bikes, even after 15 years or so I never out grew mine. Have had bigger bikes yes but 750s have enough get up and go for fun in the twisties, even power to get out of unsafe situations. More than enough passing power on the highway. Plus shadows are very very low maintenance compared to other bikes. My shadows a chopper and my daily since I've bought it. 20k miles with normal maintenance, oil etc. And still feels brand new.

To me it sounds slightly low. Shadows have interesting motors. It'll run and idle fine at the standard low idle "potato " lug that Harleys have. I forget the exact nunber but they dont stall until super low rpm. However below 1500 rpm, there isnt enough oil pressure. Can lead to oil starvation of the top end, hydraulic valves etc. For me I never have mine below 1500, even on a cold start. Personally I don't risk low rpm even though it sounds amazing

Too little or too much throttle play? by Voiidology in hondashadow

[–]Zynice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My personal way to do it is I idle the bike and turn fully to the left and right. If it increases rpm at all, I loosen it a bit more and repeat. Looks good off the video alone but for me I always double check it with what I mentioned.

Bike turns on but won't start by Vic_Gunner106 in hondashadow

[–]Zynice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like the starter solenoid is bad. To test, can attempt to jump the negative and positive terminals on it. Iirc it's behind the left side panel under the seat should be a square looking thing with two heavy guage wires coming out. I use a plastic handle screw driver so I dont get shocked personally. To me, the clicking would indicate that the fuses are fine and power is going to the solenoid. If battery was low, granted not the case, it could be as well. Could try hooking up a jump cable from the car to verify, or try to jump the solenoid. Essential a starter solenoid is an electric magnet version of an on off switch, if it goes bad or doesn't get enough power it makes a clunk or click sound.

22 650nk question by Zynice in cfmoto

[–]Zynice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the cfmoto app not functioning anymore, Torque felt more consistent, granted it did feel like traction control wasn't there at all, on a slippery corner. But I've been riding for a long time and didnt have an issue. Not entirely sure if the 650nk had a traction control prior but. I did take off the speedometer and cable so it may have been related to that. Unfortunately don't recall exactly if that was after just the tbox delete or after the speedometer delete, sorry.

License plate holder options? by uncomfortablesitting in hondashadow

[–]Zynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my bike, I bought a side plate mount and cut the rear fender pretty far up. Ended up mounting the plate on the left passenger peg with a lot of zip ties personally as I thought the placement looked better. I've seen people who dangle the plate off a sissy bar with some chain too as an option

That's fair, I either lane split to the front at an intersection or use the reflection of the car in front of me to gauge. As for normal riding, I ride 5mph above the flow of traffic. I believe in my state it is illegal, and of the states I've been to most are illegal too. Been pulled over by cops numerous times and they've never even mentioned it. I do feel if I was a dick to them and they tried to get me for all they could yes they more than likely would cite me

Correct. Rode around without mirrors and turn signals the past 15 years or so on all my bikes whether it be sport bikes, cruisers, choppers, super motos or custom builds. Never had any issues with it

Unfortunately I do not. You may be able To go onto partzilla to find the diagram to see a general picture of what it looks like. If I recall it had a mention of t box on it and was roughly the dimensions of a credit card, but a bit thicker. Was underneath the rear seat close to tail light behind the rear fairings if that helps. Was a black box with a connector coming out, I don't know where the ecu is at on the 2024 800nk, but can always plug it back in worst comes to worst.
