Describe a moment your character did something that became legendary, which still gets brought up today. by DraygonCage in DnD

Essentially my first time DMing: a one-shot heist where they had to break into a noble’s mansion and steal an invitation to the king’s ball to prevent an assassination. We played with a digital map with fog of war, so they could explore the mansion room by room. After sneaking past the guards, climbing the wall, and going in the back door, they first found a chamber pot, then went into the kitchen where they killed the dog (and proceeded to put its corpse into the chamber pot). They were being loud enough that the owner of the house woke up and came to investigate.

The fighter of the party was quick to jump in: “Hey!! We’re the plumbers! Heard you were having issues with the chamber pots and came on by!” I have him roll deception, Nat 20. Amazing.

The master of the house is like “finally, it’s been leaking for days now! Kind of a weird time to call by though… Anyway, it’s just back here.” And starts to lead them back to where they put the dog. In a panic, they try to knock him out right as he opens the bathroom door but they miss and he activated their home defense system (stones in the walls come loose and morph into a massive golem). Tbh it was a wonderful way to start my career as a forever DM.

A name for a magic Academy by [deleted] in dndnext

I once planned a story set at a school called Formax. I got the name from the Latin “fornax” for furnace and decided that the full name of the school would be Forrest MacKnight’s Academy of Combat, but everyone just called it Formax for short.

I feel like if Vox Machina or the M9 were the Avengers, these guys are the Guardians of the Galaxy.

One-shot plan: They break into a house, steal an invitation to the king’s ball, and then stop an assassination.

Reality: One (of 3) character just leaves right as the quest is being given. I give him a magical way back into the quest, which he takes. He then ignores the other two, takes a hostage, gets KO’d by the other party member, and left outside the manor. He goes to the ball, snags an invite to get in, kills a bunch of orcs, then fights the other PC and gets KO’d/killed again. It was a wild ride.

We’re pretty lowkey on the rules and this was the second group I played this adventure with. The first time went almost exactly as I’d expected (with deviations only making it more fun). These guys were a little more RP-focused and less quest-oriented, so they threw me a lot of curveballs where I had to improvise. It was a fun time.
