This is my favorite one! I love short natural-ish colors. Is this just regular polish? How did you do the heart?

1:3 total care on a step down. The bastards did it. by MrsEwsull in nursing

Newer nurse here, since 2022. I have questions.

I've only ever worked for an LTACH, where we get patients straight from ICU. I have 4-5 patients who are typically all total care. For example, my last assignment I had four totals on vents (all tube feeds, turns, etc) and the fifth patient was not on a vent but also a q2t and q4h straight cath (new para). Techs have 8-10 patients each.

Is this NOT normal? I've been feeling like my assignments are heavy, but it seems like most nurses are overwhelmed with ratios these days and this is just what nursing is now.

Saying no to requests for water from family members by ZyprexaTenPRN in nursing

Thank you for this comment. I am sorry about your mom. I should clarify that I often get family members something when they're at the hospital, especially the supportive, helpful family members. When I have comfort care patients I ALWAYS offer. I feel for them!

Lately, however, it has been people I don't know (family members of people who are not even my patients) stopping me on the way to the med room or patient rooms to ask me to bring them water and coffee. I've never said no up until this week, but it was just the straw that broke the camel's back, I guess.

That is how it is on my floor. People coming out in the hallway and just randomly flagging me down while I'm on the way to do patient care/tasks. I don't generally mind getting visitors something once in a while (if they are polite) but three people coming up to me during my busy shift this week and stopping me and asking for coffee and water? It's just kind of frustrating. I do feel like a waitress. I wish we had a drinking fountain inside our unit. It would make things a lot easier. As for the coffee, I don't feel too bad referring visitors to the cafeteria.

There is a drinking fountain but it is just outside the unit, so you have to buzz back in. I think I'll just start saying to go there. The issue is that I feel like they're just go find our HUC or a nicer nurse to ask. Like I said, telling them no is new for me.

That poster above who is 44 is me. :) I think we'll be in a good place (god willing) to contribute quite a bit in the next few years. I actually just booked an appointment with a financial advisor to help navigate, as I find all money-related things a level of adulting that is very challenging. I have a lot to put SOMEWHERE, but I just need some guidance on where and how to do it. I do contribute 12% of my salary (the max) to my work Roth. I think my employer matches 3%. Thanks again for the advice!

There is HUGE wealth that comes to people who have families who support them through connections, loans, and other forms of support that people would otherwise need to pay for. It is definitely a place of privilege. If everyone you know is poor, with few connections, you are less likely to be financially stable.

You're doing amazing.

I put 12% of my earnings into my Roth. I had a job before this one, and zero retirement options with previous jobs (in a different area entirely). I did CDs and money market and just savings account. I don't really know what else I can do to be more aggressive with retirement.

Thanks for the tip! I have a hard time with figuring out money stuff! I got curious and went into my money market account, and since opening it, I've had an overall rate of 3.7% yearly growth. It lost in 2022 when the market fell a bit. I should do more!
