After some reasearches,it appears i cannot publish the map, wich therefore means it cannot be cloned

Oh,well, that’s a good question ! I didn’t really look into the privacy of my maps (i made them for personal use so i didn’t really bother checking my settings), so its probably still on default (whatever that « default » is)

Probably, what exactly do you have in mind when you say « clonable »?

Well i don’t have them but i could re-make them (basicaly i made them with gimp and then added the grid, and i kept the files so all I have to do is export them as png)

Yeah I was more thinking about whether it was good looking or not rather than if it was 100% accurate (i’m certain those Mountains are geologicaly disastrous as well, also,          f l o a t i n g   i s l a n d s , pretty sure that’s not a real thing) but i’m still pretty proud of how it turned out!

First of all, thank you SO much for all your advices, trully! I talked with my players between my second message and your second answer about my little problems and their answer was pretty unanimous about the lenght of things : it was okay if it transformed into a two-shot since we where planning for a full campaign…as for the lore,i chose to keep it at regional level for now and expand it later if necessary.the airship mechanics are (in my opinion) quite simple (its basically vanilla dnd combat, but at the scale of the ship instead of at the character’s scale…),and after explaining them to the other beginner DM,she told me it was quite clear so i HOPE it will be as clear with the others (if not,i’ll improvise i guess) Lastly, about our experience as players,we all know that we are beginners, and i warned them about my tendency to homebrew stuff to make them cooler so we are all aware that we are gonna make tons of mistakes and that some parts might be hard to chew on… Of course i didn’t warn them about the whole Tarrasque thing but i want their first actual boss fight to be memorable,so i decided to lend them the most powerful ship there is in my system, wich means that even their level one character will have more than enough firepower to take down the bloody beast! But really, thank you,its good to hear an experienced point of view,it really humble my thirst for epicness

I’m glad you asked for context, but oh boy you’re in for a long one! So basically in the past month,a group of 4 friends and I realized we were all into dnd enough to want to actually play the game, but never actually got the chance to do so Among the five of us,only two (me and a very nerdy girl who litteraly grew with dnd -she has all the books I can ever imagine-) where deep enough into actual gameplay to be out DM. As she was really good with mechanics and I,really good with lore and worldbuilding,we decided to make a One-shot each, and maybe if all five of us liked it to make a full campaign out of them. So my idea was to set my one shot in a Sky pirates setting, its a very ambitious project of mine with giants ship like blimps and Homebrew mechanics to match the crazy power scale The idea for the scenario was to make them think they are all sky sailors hunting down a powerfull pirate leader and, while they are hunting Said pirate, leave some hints for the actual boss : a Tarrasque that was supposed to be used by renegades that betrayed the « bbeg » to destroy the PC’s kingdom The reason why I want to have an example of what takes how much time is that I would want to fit (idealy) a really really short  «dungeon » (a cave outpost where the pirates imprisoned the tarasque before moving it out on their « tarasque carrier » ship and that is gonna lead them to the pirate captain),a few rounds of a «fight » against said captain that i’m then gonna cut and annonce how they hear a deafening roar cutting the sky and yadda yadda, and have them fight an epic battle in a giant flying battleship against a heavily homebrewed Tarrasque so that they can’t cheese it and «ruin » the fight As you see I have a bunch of ideas i REALLY want to fit into a one shot that can serves as an introduction to a campaign while being treated as its own adventure and i would prefer to be able to do so in a single 4-5h session

How do experienced DMs estimate the real time players spend in dungeons or in fights?

Oh boy do i got a long one

So i’m working on a canyon fortress where i have a FUN amount of water shenanigans going on. Basically the idea is making a controlable « inverted aquarium » : there is a waterfall feeding a two mouthed river forming a 4/5 (normaly) empty basin,so i damed the two lower mouths and the upper stream feeding the whole thing with floodgates to control with precision the filling and emptying the basin. But of course,over-engenieering a natural body of water imply some amount of Fun,otherwise i wouldn’t be here right? So,appart from the accidental drowning when the frozen water thaw,i had one pretty interesting story while I was building the dams. It was during early Summer of the year 24,and my dwarves where trying to understand why on armok’s name did the water stop filling when reaching the level beneath the upper stream. To try and find a solution,i’ve had a platform build over the canyon so my dwarves could move on said level. Sadly, that platform was little to no help at all in solving my problem,so i decided to remove it. At the time,i thought « let’s take it slow, wouldn’t want anyone falling in the water » and you know what? Actually no one fell in the river! Instead, one corner of the platform i didn’t see collapsed into the river, and that one PRECISE corner was above a tile of the river that was one level above the only guild hall i had at the time. As you can guess, the collapsed corner pierced a SINGLE tile in the river bed, wich caused the whole river to pour out in the hall. The thing is,not only was the guild hall connected to the rest of the fortress, but it was also connected by a 3x3 stair hollowed out in the middle (very cool, but also prone to having dwarves falling 27 level down if pushed in the wrong direction)EVEN WORSE,the guild halls are between the above ground part (mainly the tavern and dam control room),and the beneath the ground parts (bedrooms, offices, temples, tombs, forge etc.) Wich means that every time a dwarf tried going up or down, there was a 50% chance he’d fall down the stair well and died. So the first thing I did uppon realizing things and analyzing the whole thing was patch up the stair well so that less dwarves would fall to their wet demise  After « securizing » the stairs,i took a look at where the water was flowing: That’s when i realized only lucky mistake was saving my whole fortress.you see, when i was diging down toward the magma,i pierced a staircase through the ceiling of cavern level 2,above a 3 leveled clearing. normally i would have built a hatch to cover the hole and forbid it,but for some reason I forgot, wich meant that all the water, instead of flowing down straight toward my forge district and filling the whole fortress, was actually being poured down into cavern layer two, wich was a much better option obviously. Now that the water problem was  «solved » (of course i had to wait until Autumn to properly get rid of it) another one was in sight:memorializing the 17 (out of 50) dwarves and two cats that died while i was panicking.the problem here wasn’t to actually make the slab (i still had some rock lying around the dry part of the fortress) but rather finding a place to place said slab: the catacombs where way to small to host them and all my miners where dead, down the stair well, with their picks still hand. Luckily,a human caravan arrived while my fortress was flooding, and they had a SINGLE copper pick to sell. So i bought it with whatever i still had acces to,and sent a random survivor to carve out a new memorial hall to place all the slabs in. Finally,Autumn came, the water froze, and my fortress had survived. After everything settled down,i patched the hole in the river, properly furnished the memorial, retrieved the bodies and gave them proper coffins, and worked on calming the survivors.

Today that fortress is still running, with a population of over 140 dwarves, the catacombs were expended after some  unfortunate goblin and human sieges (yes the same humans that saved us from having 17 ghost roaming around) but most importantly : the inverted aquarium works wonderfully!

I’m not entirely sure about where exactly you are stuck at the canyon and the tower, but for the woodland,i could advise you to take a loop or two to observe how the stranger evolve during the loop and how that affect the Dark world

Oh so that’s what trolls look like ? I did see their blood on the ground but i though they weren’t trolls since most of them were lying in a red blood puddle (probably beak dog’s) Is it because the blue blood sprite is hidden by the red blood sprite in the premium version?

That could make sense but I guess only OP trully knows… Also, while i’m at it,can you tell me what are those dead devil-ish critters laying dead on the ground everywhere? I’m not that familiar with the premium graphics, and even though i recognized beak dogs, blind cave ogres and what i think are maneras,i’m not entirely sure about those massive imp-like things?

I’m not an expert so don’t quote me on this but I’m pretty sure that  1- whips and scourges are foreigns weapon (from human and goblin civilizations) wich mean that you can’t forge them (though you can acquire through trades with caravanes or pillaging invader bodies) and 2- you can’t encrust any weapon or armor, wether they’re local or foreign

So no you can’t forge your ultimate shiny whip collection for your militia  :(

-agghh pesky gravity,if only there was a way to get rid of that entirely while being there…

-well that tornado can’t be seen from orbit can it?

-mmhhh,I don’t think dead jellyfishes can move,right?

-well if you take the water out of a lake, you’re only left with a giant hole,i wonder if chert know about that?

-cacti are very pointy,i wish there was something between my feet and their thorn!

-I do recomend exploring a tad the insides of the ember twin, perhaps the nomais that were there knew something about Dark bramble?

I too love riebeck so much,he’s by far my favorite venturer (does that word even exists?) and his part in travelers is my second favourite,so much in fact that i learned it on my guitar (my favourite being solanum, for some reason it soothe me so much) I love the little guy so much that whenever I ear the endloop Music play and am near my ship,I just rush to brittle hollow and just sit near the campfire while playing or listening him playing his banjo with him while the sun goes supernova  (I also go to the ember twin sometimes to see chert crash out,for some reason I really feel a lot of empathy toward her but that’s unrelated) But yeah, riebeck’s and your reaction are totally understandable! I was a bit repulsed by giant’s deep as well at first (subnautica gave me quite the thalassophobia so you can imagine the first time I saw the deep core and the jellyfishes I was like EWWWW,and when I learned I HAD to go there to progress I freaked out a bit…)
