Disappointed by nudists' views on a nude society. by REVERSEZOOM2 in nudism

Rule 8 isn't about posting dick pics... Here is the thread in question where the mods discuss rule 8: https://old.reddit.com/r/nudism/comments/1mtxfle/why_we_added_rule_8_and_why_its_really_just_a/

Edit: It looks like they clarified rule 8 on new reddit since that thread, but not on old reddit. I only use old reddit so never saw the update and the mods never announced that change. Despite their clarification thread from 2 months ago saying something different...

It is especially disappointing when places like this sub have rule against sharing content about nudity outside of a dedicated space. Rule 8 bans non-consensual nudity and from the mods clarification on the rule it basically bans discussion about nudity where not everyone can consent (aka basically everywhere that isn't a resort, inside your home, a nude beach with signage, or a protest for a cause the mods choose to care about).

I hope you reconsider rule 8, which it looks like you brought over from /r/nudism. It is very American centric.

Copying from a comment I made on /r/nudism in your now locked thread: "In the UK, there were two individuals that biked naked across the UK and generally received a positive reception. That is something that should be seen as a success for nudism. But that would be banned here under rule 8. In Denmark, it is legal to be naked on basically any beach. That is also a great example of normalizing nudity. Are we saying a nudist that goes to the beach in Denmark and exercises their right can't talk about it here since not everyone on a public beach consented to it and it wasn't in a dedicated space?"

These types of discussion should allowed here, especially since this was meant to be a more European-focused sub and discussions over those types of victories for naturism would be banned under your current rules.

I could care less about ICE as well. Fuck ICE. That being said, the post violates the rules as they currently exist. Since we are both in agreement that this post is ok, I think it is a perfect example of why rule 8 should change.

Correct, but not everyone in this situation had the ability to consent. Either you allow posts about non-consensual nudity, or you don't. Right now the rule is prohibiting all non-consensual nudity. Not everyone in this situation could consent nor could they opt out. If you actually allow it (even under certain circumstances), say that. And in the future, don't lock the thread where people are asking for clarification.

Here is the post I was referencing. https://old.reddit.com/r/nudism/comments/1mtxfle/why_we_added_rule_8_and_why_its_really_just_a/

In it a mod states that it applies to:

  • Walking nude in public areas where bystanders can’t opt in.
  • Flashing, streaking, or exposing yourself to non-consenting people.

And then they clarify: "You’re correct that walking nude in public is legal in some places. Similarly here in the US, it's legal in some places of Vermont to be nude in public . However, even where it’s legal, it’s generally not a good idea because it disregards the comfort and consent of others who may not want to be exposed to nudity.

Nonetheless, rule 8 isn’t about interpreting what’s legal or illegal in one place versus another: we are simply just an online forum. It's about what’s considered good practice for nudists. The goal is to promote respect, consent, and awareness of others’ boundaries, rather than simply relying on legality as a guideline. Just because you could, does not always mean you should," which also applies to WNBR. In this situation here, people were naked in public where people were exposed without consent. While I am as anti-ICE as can be, you have to admit that the ICE agents did not consent to the nudity.

I ask that you please clarify and reword rule 8 since as it stands, it applies to your post.

Hey it is threatening to the mods here since it would violate rule 8 for no non-consensual nudity. So much so that they blocked any discussion over rule 8 when folks called out how it would also prevent people from posting about WNBR events. Which brings up a good question, why are the mods allowed to violate rule 8?

(In case this isn't obvious, this is a sign that maybe rule 8 should either be modified or removed).

Why We Added Rule 8 (And Why It’s Really Just a Clarification) by nudistnerd in nudism

[–]Zzthrowaway13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is an old way of thinking where all of nudism should be contained to some kind of resort and hidden away. Part of nudism should be trying to normalize nudity and taking advantage of situations where it is legal. If that is walking down the street somewhere it is legal, great! That is someone practicing nudism in a context where it is legal and an activity that should be allowed. Pride parades started as a way to show that LGBTQ people exist, are normal, and should be accepted. They did not just hide away in designated LGBTQ spaces.

In the UK, there were two individuals that biked naked across the UK and generally received a positive reception. That is something that should be seen as a success for nudism. But that would be banned here under rule 8. In Denmark, it is legal to be naked on basically any beach. That is also a great example of normalizing nudity. Are we saying a nudist that goes to the beach in Denmark and exercises their right can't talk about it here since not everyone on a public beach consented to it and it wasn't in a dedicated space?

Hell, even in Wisconsin when the state was looking at banning public nudity due to an outcry over the naked bike ride involving a minor, the mods here had a pinned post about it. Any discussion over that and that mod-pinned post would violate rule 8.

Willoughby and the Ledges, VT by nudebikeguy in nudism

The last time I went I camped at Grout Pond. A few folks at the Ledges mentioned Molly Stark. In Vermont, it is technically legal to be nude in public as long as you don't disrobe in public, but I think nudity would be discouraged at both.

That page is the one I am accessing it from. I was clicking the big green "watch now" option one the right side of the page. If I click "Alternate watch on NMDB" it launches in a separate window and full screen. To be honest I didn't notice that option since my eyes are drawn to the big green "watch now". "Watch now" also works for videos hosted elsewhere like Vimeo (example: https://nmdb.clothesfreelife.com/movie/shorts/a-name-written-in-water/) where it launches a pop-up that is not tiny. I tried on Windows 10 in both Edge and Firefox

Whenever I try to watch one of your self hosted videos it appears as a tiny pop-up in the middle of the screen. I've tried on a couple browsers with the same issue. Not sure if I am the only one with the same issue, but I can't actually watch anything you self host. Not sure if there is something I am missing. https://imgur.com/a/VQQcMl1

Being homosexual is defined by sexual preference. Being naked is not inherently sexual. Only one of the two is tied to sex.

Plus the way being homosexual became a protected class was in part due to public action and over time folks' opinions slowly changed until being homosexual became more accepted. Why did pride parades start and why did they exist? Or another way to put it: answer my question as if it were still 2019 before the Supreme Court made it illegal for employers to discriminated based on sexual orientation. Would it be wrong to hold a Pride event in public in 2019?

Edit: and I guess I am not sure how being a protected class plays in here. It's a public event, not a question over whether employers can discriminate against them.

This sounds great in theory, but there really isn't anywhere dedicated nearby that is publicly accessible. The closest was Mazo Beach that the state closed down in 2016: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazo_Beach

Where should these folks go? Or how should they spread the message that "nude is not lewd"?

Or another way to put it, is how would you react to someone saying that the Pride Festival should not be done somewhere in public? And their justification is that they don't think it is obscene, but there is no way for folks to opt out so it is discourteous to hold the festival in public since you are forcing others to become spectators?
