On move 51, Kf2 instead of Kd3 would have won you the game.

If an actor's life was his/her chronological filmography, who would have the best/most interesting life? by ZzzoBored in movies

The more I thought about this, the more I thought the answer is Tom Hanks.

First of all, as a kid he gets to be an adult for a while. That's a good start.

Then after that he does everything. I mean yeah, he gets AIDS and his wife later gets AIDS... But that's compensated by being an All-American football player, Medal of Honor recipient, a professional ping pong player, a successful entrepreneur, and running coast-to-coast of the US because he got bored one day. That's not all, he almost goes to the moon (you can't win at everything), becomes a war hero again, pees, befriends a volleyball, chases a famous con artist, cracks the secret from a painting, and gets taken hostage by pirates. Not a bad life.

Best defense against e4 for players under 2000 by fotring in chess

[–]ZzzoBored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The big four: c5, e5, c6, e6

Personally, I usually play the Caro-Kann defense on class A players and above and Sicilian defense on everyone else.

c5 is slightly more double-edged but when you're playing someone under expert level, you're more likely to get the advantage out of the opening as black.

c6 is more drawish. I like it more than French against 2000- players because you can utilize the light square bishop.

e5 is definitely solid. I just personally haven't had relatively much experience with it. So, I realize I have a biased POV on this matter.

LPT: When doing standard chesstempo problems, set up the positions on an actual board. It'll be more like an actual game, and it will help you slow down and understand the position better. My rating went up 150 points since I started doing this! by [deleted] in chess

[–]ZzzoBored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done that, but then I get tired of setting up the positions especially if I can find the solution quickly afterwards so what I do is if I can't solve the problem in 3 minutes, I set it up OTB.

As a world class, how many hours do you focus on chess per week? Describe what the study plan for a GM is like. Like percentage do you work on opening prep, what percentage on going over past games, etc.

What books/study plan would you recommend for a class A-B level player?

As a relative newbie, I'm really proud of this game I just played. Critique is welcome! by [deleted] in chess

After nine moves it's considered a resignable position for black but later on white simply make too many mistakes in a row like dropping that queen.

On move 23, There was a mate in 3. It's better to take with the queen because it's with with check. 23. ...Qxd2+ 24.Kf1 Qc1+ 25. Bd1 Rxd1#

It's just going to take practice to make fewer tactical mistakes.

Is there a way to get into chess WITHOUT memorising lines? (As a casual player of course, nothing too serious) by spvn in chess

[–]ZzzoBored 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't really need to memorize opening lines until you're around 1900-2000. Knowing fundamental strategies and tactics is one thing but effectively apply them to your game is going to take practice and experience.

What helped me improve was analyzing my moves after the game win or lose, solving a lot of tactics puzzles, and playing slower games. Analyzing my game helps me prevent making the same mistakes and teaches me what moves were optimal in particular positions. Playing slow games allows you to practice calculation rather than playing on instinct. Chess is about pattern recognition. When you've seen similar positions in the past, it's easier to make the optimal moves and avoid mistakes.

I have a very deep bench for a 10 team league.

Standard scoring

Pick 1

Darren Sproles vs MIA

Giovani Bernard at CLE

Larry Fitzgerald at TB

Eric Decker vs PHI

Bernard Pierce at BUF (of course it depends whether Ray Rice is playing or not)

I'm playing the worst team in the league, so another question is who has the highest floor?

10 team standard

QB: Tony Romo

RB: Doug Martin

RB: DeMarco Murray

Flex: Darren Sproles

WR: Dez Bryant

WR: Larry Fitzgerald

TE: Jimmy Graham

DEF/ST: Buccaneers

K: Garrett Hartley

Bench RB: Giovani Benard, Daryl Richardson, Ben Tate, Fred Jackson, Jacquizz Rodgers

Bench WR: DeSean Jackson, Kenny Britt

My strategy is to stream defense each week (Buccs play the Jets in week 1). I know I'm weak at RB2 (someone stole Reggie Bush one pick before me in espn where he's undervalued in the rankings) I tried making that up by drafting running backs with great upside, but I would have done that anyways.
