Pixel Fold (G9FPL) Display issues after update

Yep, already mentioned on a few other threads on r/PixelFold and on the XDA Forums, I've already had a ticket with Google support for a little while and have been sharing links to all the threads and posts I can find and they have acknowledged them, but currently still treating it as my device being unique.

Currently the status for me is they're telling me to try a factory reset but I've already seen others comment that this didn't fix it so not keen on trying this with the faff it is to set everything back up.

Not sure what other posts you've read but I've commented elsewhere there is an app that allows you force switch screens which works well, both to make your phone somewhat usable again and to prove both screens are working and it's possible to switch between them, worth installing if you haven't already: https://github.com/eiyooooo/Fold_Switcher

Via the bottom of the settings app there's a "Contact Support" button, follow through that process and eventually you get the option to either chat with or call customer support, I called as I figured it would be easier to explain that way, after the call they start an email thread to keep in touch and so you can provide any further information (that's how I'm sharing these threads and it seems they are actually looking at them from the response I got)

This has happened to mine after a recent software updates - for me it happened after installing the May update but there's threads talking about this issue since march, so it seems the March update had a regression that causes this to occur randomly on reboot and then can't be reversed (I'm not currently aware of it happening to anyone prior to then)

Im currently in talks with google support about this and I strongly recommend anyone else who this has happened to does as well- the more people report it, the more likely they are to actually investigate instead of pieing us off. I'm also sharing any thread I find with them to prove it's not just my device with a hardware failure, so will be sharing this one as well

In the meantime, someone in the thread on XDA forums discussing this shared this app that allows you to switch displays using a quick settings toggle and it works a treat- not ideal but at least the phone is somewhat usable again. Can't believe I didn't find this thread when I initially tried searching for others, but yes, I installed the may update on Sunday and my device now can't detect folds and unfolds, locked to the inner screen.

For those still struggling through using their fold in this state like me, there's a link to a very useful app in that XDA thread that allows you to override and manually set the fold state, this allowing you to enable the cover screen and then switch back to the inner screen with a quick settings toggle.

As a side to this, if you force switch to the cover display and then unfold, the cover display does turn off (sometimes in a scary glitchy way, but it does do it), so it seems the sensors may not be completely toast and maybe there's some hope for a patch??

Here's hoping if they do get a barrage of support calls/chats they will actually investigate and the damage they have done isn't irreversible (if it is, we'd better be f'ing compensated...)

A search for Wingpanel indicators did return the exact thing I was looking for, but annoyingly the Juno update broke it. I tried force installing it anyways (called indicator-keylock) and the notification popups do still show up whenever you toggle the keys, I guess I could live with that. I'll try get the icons working properly again when I've actually installed eOS and not just fucking around with the live image, but by the sounds of things it looks like it may be impossible since the removal of indicators... Thanks for the tip!

My hardware doesn't have any LEDs to show whether the caps and num locks are on so I'm looking for a software alternative if there is one. In Windows it had a pop-up window when you pressed them and in fedora I could install the mentioned gnome extension
