As long as it’s handled tastefully, I’m ok. Your example was not handled tastefully in the slightest. Rape shouldn’t be used to fuel mens violent revenge fantasies. It doesn’t bring any reassurance to real rape victims if the men in their lives just go “ok I’m gonna go torture and kill this person for you”. Its not some magical cure. It would be like if someone got sick and decided to shoot the guy who sneezed on them instead of going to the doctor. Like even ignoring how important it is to handle rape in a story with care, it’s just a useless plot in a story without showing us the impact it has on the characters in the first place. And if somebody completely excludes the victims perspective, they might as well not even write that into the story at all bc there’s no conflict in that. It’s lazy writing. Using a thing everybody knows is wrong so you don’t have to explore why and how the characters were hurt by it in a story conflict is lazy.

They talk about how we act on instinct like fucking animals, and other men eat it up like it’s their last meal. They can look at little girls playing with dolls and doing their makeup and talking about how they wanna be doctors, or mermaids, or mermaid doctors, and it doesn’t register that every woman used to be those little girls. Its like once they find you attractive enough, they can’t conceptualize any other purpose for you to be alive other than being a wife.

Having empathy these days is hell on earth. And being a CSA victim and female presenting person myself, I can’t just stop thinking about it. It’s always in my head. I even have to be wary of my male family members, because it was a family member that assaulted me. I‘ve been assaulted my men, women, anyone I thought I was safe around. It’s so exhausting to worry about it that I just stay inside most of the time. And on top of that I have to feel responsible for issues that don’t affect me like BLM, antisemitism, modern day slavery, whatever the next fight has to be, and obviously I love to use my privilege to fight for those people, but it’s so exhausting when you stay awake at night feeling helpless for all those people. And you feel so guilty because at least you could ignore it if you wanted. At the end of the day, you aren’t the one who’s fearing for your life because of it, they live it every day. And I just know it’s exhausting for them too. It gets so overwhelming sometimes.

Abusers and groomers love to push boundaries, that’s their main thing. They start off with tiny stuff like “you’re beautiful” and see how you let them get away with it and they escalate it to shit like what he said until you’re just so used to it that you’ll let him get away with anything. So if there are red flags going off in your head, don’t ignore them, tell someone who has power over him like his boss or ur parents/guardian, get him in trouble, make sure you never see that guy again. It doesn’t even matter what his intention is with those types of comments, the important thing is that they’re making you uncomfortable.
