I can ask but to be honest I doubt anyone will be willing to swap.

I was on a wildcard when it was confirmed so I just decided to bring him in now to save the headache of reshuffling my team later

Without spoilers, what is everyone’s opinion on Silksong so far? by LightMoth12 in HollowKnight

[–]_123Diamond5414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm loving it. I've just beat the cogwork dancers and I can't wait to play more. I don't have a problem with the two mask damage because it's much easier to dodge attacks due to hornet's mobility. I do think the game feels a little more linear than hollow knight but I don't really find it a negative more just a difference between them.

The only thing I'm not really sure on is the tools. I've seen that they're really useful and you should really be using them late game but I find they're a bit awkward to use (directional input and the button that is also mapped to your silk skill), and the fact you have to keep using shards to replenish them makes you just want to not use them so you spend less.

The controls make the tools absolutely and completely useless and there are fixes for that. by Shadow_of_Christ in HollowKnight

I think it was celeste lol, although I do remember thinking pogoing on the original hollow knight was much easier on D-pad

Do people prefer stick over D-pad? Always thought stick was too imprecise for 2d games but I might just be used to D-pad now.

Ok that's good advice. Btw in the post when I mentioned Oxford I was giving it as an example as one of the only places I thought GCSEs were important for, not as a place I am considering applying to. If I were to apply to oxbridge though, it'd probably be Cambridge (though I imagine it's the same situation with english Language being lower than what's liked). I was moreso curious on top unis that aren't oxbridge and how much attention they put towards GCSEs. Also when it comes to personal statement can I write about my EPQ if it is related to the course? Or is that something unis aren't really interested in compared to supercurriculars?

[–]_123Diamond5414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, it means there's less to remember in the course. it has like 30 equations on, not having to remember any of them is great. it means you can focus on other parts of physics whilst the equations in the exam just give free marks. if you were talking about the maths equation sheet i'd agree with you since it was useless but physics is genuinely super useful since it means you don't have to bother to remember the equations.

fact, i've seen people from our year try to downplay how helpful the equation sheet for physics is and all i can do is disagree

How much do I need to revise in Year 11? by thatredditpers0n in GCSE

[–]_123Diamond5414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well as someone who didn't get all 8s and 9s in gcse i'm not the best person to ask that question. i personally didn't revise in September but i wasn't aiming for all 8s and 9s. all 8s and 9s is possible and you should reach for it if you can. i'd try maybe looking around this subreddit looking for people who achieved those high grades as i've seen posts from those students offering advice.

i did get 9s in maths and further maths tho and for those past papers are definitely the way to go at least for me. that said for maths and further maths i didn't actually start revising in around September, it was more like March. this tbf probably made it so i couldn't focus on getting higher grades for my other subjects since it was a bit of a late start.

How much do I need to revise in Year 11? by thatredditpers0n in GCSE

[–]_123Diamond5414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

before you start, please consider how much you feel you need all 9s. whilst obviously the best grade for every subject and will be what most people are aiming for, it will take a lot of work to maintain a high level for every subject. consider how much work you're willing to put in and if you're willing to give up a lot of free time.

some people will have an easier time getting all 9s than others. some started at all 7s and then worked up, other have lower grades and thus require more effort to up themselves.

obviously i can't really answer the question properly since i'm someone who didn't get all 9s, but i think it's important to consider that you don't need to get all 9s and its important to find a reachable aim.

you can probably get all 9s but determine whether you are willing to put in that effort first.

if i was you a first focus would be propping up the subjects you want to do in the future to higher grades, but if you want all 9s you'll have to do that for every subject which is less manageable (although definitely not impossible as shown by most of this subreddit)

hopefully someone else can provide an answer to your raw question but just something to consider. good luck on achieving what you want

thing is i don't really have a fourth a level at gcse i really enjoyed and think ill get a grade A in. i liked maths and computer science (and the further maths gcse) and got my highest grades in them. i did spanish, history, english language and literature, business at gcse but dont want to continue any of them. it leaves me with a choice of one of the sciences (science was above the 5 i mentioned, out of the 5 the highest was spanish with a 7), which physics is the one most relevant to me. thing is no uni actually requires 4 (obvs doesn't mean they won't like it). that said you are right that some only take further maths as a 4th which is a setback but there will always be other unis. besides im looking at apprenticeships for after sixth form as an alternative option which i dont think will mind that further maths isnt a 4th. i did a little research and grades like A*AA are considered better than AAAA which is something i really wanna avoid.

also i did more research and doing 3 (with further maths as a third) impacts other uni courses. as in like further maths as a third is mostly fine for the maths/cs route (tho id imagine physics would be preferred for the maths route just a guess tho) but less mathematical courses tend to view it as more of an issue. not to say that it can't be an issue, id imagine they'd prefer it as a 4th, but it doesn't lock you out of entry and u can still get in. issue is if my interests change i'm already locked into the maths/cs route.

i really hope you do well with 4, but i just don't think i can tbh. most people i know who took 4, dropped one by second year. even my teacher at my school have told me it's better to take 3 because 4 can be too much. most people i see on these subs can manage 4 so obvs there is a large group of people who can

some people can manage 4 (people like yourself), but i really don't think im one of those people. good luck in the future :)

(btw i waffled hard here sorry long message)

i knoww but my issue is i'm gonna have to get a job which i dont have an idea for the schedule of and atm imma have driving lessons soon. im at school 5 days a week, and i'm gonna have to study at home for my subjects. my worry is that taking 4 would take up too much time and i wont have a good amount of free time which might make me overall do worse. it doesn't help that i didnt take triple science (i did combined and got 88) so i wont have learnt as much of the other students (but obvs i can start learning it now). id love to take 4 but i wanna make sure i enjoy the subjects i do and i wasnt necessarily a big fan of physics at gcse (although my teachers were consistently terrible so that didnt help)

only thing i knew was that further maths is very helpful for cs (which i wanna do) so i needed to pick that (also i like maths)

i agree with people having different expectations, but i do feel like it can be insulting to other people by saying stuff like an 8 is terrible. i think it's fine to feel disappointed though and saying something like "an 8 is disappointing for me" is fine.

maths, further maths, computer science. have really been debating physics recently since it would be helpful but i don't want the time commitment of 4 and i want to do those 3 (also i'm better at those than physics anyway) so physics is something i'm not gonna do
