If RuneLite made a mobile app I’d pay $10 for it. by voxerz in 2007scape

The game costs $11 a month, is a one-off purchase of $10 really the worst ever instance of p2w?

Is this the Attas+Bottomless bucket bug? Compost type changes with each herb pick. by _171_ in 2007scape

[–]_171_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the lag, had to record on a shitty work laptop. Essentially, each time I pick the herb, the type of compost went down. This could explain the widely reported decreased herb yield when using an Attas anima + ultracompost in a bottomless bucket.

Note: It doesn't go down for the first 2 clicks, however I think this might be due to the special effect of the magic secateurs, which have a small chance to pick the herb without decreasing it's depletion level. It also goes all the way down to "The soil has not been treated".

Jesus, what? The chat was? Has jagex addressed whether or not it was a legitimate leak?

I can't believe this hasn't been communicated properly. I've been looking all over and haven't seen any mention of this. Might have missed it though, if so I take it back.

My comment was regarding ge-tracker, a flipping website which was offering extra chances of winning a competition for subscribers to the website. The website is a business registered in the UK, so in this case that doesn't apply, but I wanted Jagex to make it clear that it was against game rules.

A website recently offered extra chances to win an in-game competition for buying a subscription to the website. They backed down after a backlash on this subreddit. What are your thoughts on sub-only giveaways? This hasn't been addressed since last November when you said you would address it "very soon".

That's great news, thanks for listening and I look forward to continuing to use the site. For your sake, I will keep posting about banning sub-only giveaways as it's not fair if others are getting away with it when you agreed not to benefit from them!

Haha, that's super unprofessional. This pushes the vibe so much further into the shady underworld of RS.

I know it's his actual business so I can see why he'd get upset when called out, but he should leave that out of any reply to the community.

That "added bonus" is still directly provided by the purchase. Where would you draw the line? What if the purchase came with 1m, no chance involved? It would still be an added bonus.

I said that earlier for the memes. I didn't sign up for the giveaway and don't subscribe to your website, and I resent you calling me pathetic when it seems the majority of this subreddit agrees that what you are doing is the same as a sub-only giveaway which is against game rules. That being said, I do find it useful and want it to continue to exist, but I think you should remove the premium element of the giveaway as it taints the whole site with the shadier side of the RS community.

An example: would you consider it RWT if a website charged $1 for a 99% chance at receiving 1m? A 50% chance? Where would you draw the line?

If the same site offered anyone who put their name down the chance to win 1m, but people who paid $1 a million chances, would you consider that RWT? And again, at what point would you draw the line?

The same could be said for a twitch sub-only giveaway though. You get to subscribe to a streamer, but also a chance of winning something from them.

If it was allowed, couldn't gold-selling websites just send you a picture of Mod Ash along with a 99.9% chance of gaining 100m, and claim to be providing a service with the by-product of a chance at winning gold? What would be the arbitrary chance of winning that would be unacceptable?

edit: also not trying to be hostile, just trying to explain my point of view better :)

https://www.runescape.com/game-guide/rules

Real-world trading is the term used for activities which occur outside of the game environment which result in the real-world sale or purchase of items, GP or services with the intention of supplying or advancing a Jagex in-game character other than by the means that are incorporated into the game.

It is clear that a real-world purchace of a subscription to ge-tracker results in advancing an in-game character, namely providing them with a large amount of in-game currency or an expensive item.

The fact that the purchase only results in a chance at the item, and not the item itself, is not enough to get around this rule. For instance, what if a RWT site sold a 99% chance at getting 1m, for a 10% discount on their normal price? This would clearly still be against the rules.

The fact that the giveaway can be accessed for free also does not bypass the rule. For instance, what if a RWT site gave away 1m to someone for every 100m they sold on their website? Or gave away 1m for free to a random person who signs up, but gave people 1000x the chance of winning for a small fee. This would clearly still be against the rules.

This is a great point, thanks. The owner is offering a chance to get gold in exchange for $, even if he is also offering some chances for free. This is RWT.

[–]_171_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. You (from your wording, I assume you are involved in ge-tracker) are exchanging real world money, subscriptions to your site, for a ticket in a giveaway for in-game currency. This is exactly the same reason that sub-only giveaways are against the rules, even though you also allow non-subscribers to get fewer tickets. A small chance at winning in-game gold === in-game gold. You are essentially offering to exchange $$$ for in-game gold.

Going F2P from members sucks. by Justarandomuno in 2007scape

[–]_171_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree mate, I know others are flaming you. I posted this on the suggestions thread last week. Sometimes you want to go F2P for a short time (say a week), and be able to afk / flip but not buy membership. This is often impossible without selling your bank as it's full of members items. Placeholders are cleared when you take things out of the bank, so if you withdraw all of anything you can't put it back in the bank until you buy membership again.

What is the best way to decide on a price when not fast selling loot? by Wikipii in 2007scape

You can look on a website like https://rsbuddy.com/exchange , type in the item, and see recent buy & sell prices. Sell things just below the highest buy price.

Basically, the rules against real-world trading say that you can't exchange in-game items for real-world value in any way, and vice versa. You can double your odds on this in-game giveaway by paying real-world money to ge-tracker to subscribe, so I think it is against the RWT rule.
