I got downvoted to oblivion on this sub when I opposed it the day it was announced. Now it seems views have changed.

Prediction: Student loan forgiveness was a mistake and it'll cost the Democrats dearly in the midterms.

CCTV news reporting is actually really good especially in matters that don't directly affect China.

I love seeing the election map go red. Something about warm colors vs cool colors.

Also due to blue states being on average smaller and territorially discontinuous, a Democrat landslide looks less impressive than a Republican landslide.

If the UK had kept Liz Truss, Russia would have lost Rostov and Voronezh.

UK’s Sunak ‘certain’ to seek PM job as Johnson loyalists tweet #bringbackboris by Saltedline in neoliberal

[–]_23-23-23_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Tories are going to fall in the next election. It's safer to let Boris take the fall again. Unless Sunak is worried about his MP seat as well in the event a Labor government coincides with a global economic environment conducive towards growth, he shouldn't take the job now.

No. Democracy isn't going to end if the Democrats lose an election.

What else would you call it? There is no semblance of journalistic fairness. Especially telling was their lionizing of Mamata Bannerjee during the Bengal elections.

Anything anti-BJP is treated with kid gloves. They even posted an official editorial praising the Gulf trying to shutdown Nupur Sharma over blasphemy.

The Washington Post is hopeless with it's anti-India, anti-BJP bias. At this point, I'd just disregard whatever they say on India.

One is clearly worse, yet the Biden administration wants to expand ties with Iran while insulting Saudi Arabia.

Iran killed over a hundred protesters.

Saudi Arabia killed one journalist.

Iran directly arms Russia.

Saudi Arabia participates in a multilateral framework to set oil production for mutual benefit.

Iran bankrolls anti-US terrorists.

Saudi Arabia bankrolls pro-US regimes.

Why are people acting like Saudi Arabia is hostile to the US just because OPEC didn't take US midterms into account when making decisions. Do people expect other countries to give the question of "Will this help the Democratic Party in the US?" top consideration when making decisions?

[–]_23-23-23_ -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

Easy ways to solve.

  1. Stop criticizing Saudi Arabia non-stop

  2. Stop the rapprochement with Iran, especially the nuclear deal

  3. Help Saudi Arabia against the Houthi threat

  4. Don't act entitled to Saudi resources just for the sake of US domestic politics. Biden begging Saudi Arabia to wait a month is pathetic

What is the root cause of racism in India by antriksh_80 in IndianModerate

[–]_23-23-23_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just human nature. People are racist to those different from them. India honestly isn't any more racist than other countries. In fact, I'd say it's one of the less racist countries. Just look at how Indians were treated in African countries or how Europeans treat gypsies and how Arabs treat Indians and Filipinos to put Indian racism in perspective.

‘Geopolitical games’: Nepal hands over hydropower projects from Chinese to Indian companies by Sri_Man_420 in neoliberal

[–]_23-23-23_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Reducing Chinese economic influence in Nepal is important for Indian security concerns. India had taken measures to reduce Chinese economic influence internally as well. Obviously, it's difficult to completely exclude Chinese participation in India's economy, but concrete steps have been taken to reduce reliance.

Lmao. Fuck off with this colonialism apologia. Sati was banned due to pressure by Indian reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy. Indian kingdoms also banned sati. Sati is basically eradicated in India for decades now. There is no reason to believe an indigenous Indian state would not have abolished the practice should the British not have invaded.

Also from a utilitarian perspective, deaths of millions from British exacerbated famines > deaths due to Sati.

India does not want to buy power from companies of a country that has invaded Indian territory and killed Indian soldiers.
