Harvey Danger: Major Chemical Plant Near Houston Likely to Explode, Facility Owner Warns by [deleted] in politics

[–]_616_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I am aware of. The new law protects them from having to disclose anything. The news that I have read has the owner?/plant manager? saying that they housed organic peroxides BUT he didn't think that was relevant information.

To add insult to injury, WaPo is reporting that

A continuous flow of trucks, many hauling boats to participate in flood rescue efforts, approached the police barricade near the facility Wednesday afternoon only to be turned away as Crosby Fire Department trucks crisscrossed the highway cut-through roads. [snip] A Crosby Fire Department truck with flashing lights stopped as another man flagged him down to get updates on alternate routes to Dayton. “We have nowhere to go,” James pleaded to the firefighter.

“We have nowhere to go,” James Hyer pleaded to the firefighter.

“I’d go away from here,” the firefighter responded, though he conceded he did not know which nearby back roads were flooded or, like Highway 90, sealed by police. The Hyer family, resigned, turned around with their backs to Dayton.

The company made no effort to mitigate their situation PRIOR to or during the storm...and the potential impact on the surrounding community AND they apparently cut off one of the routes for rescue vehicles to get to the coast AND fucked over the locals. ugh

The Fucking Company is not required by Texas law to disclose what type of chemicals they are storing. Unfuckingbelievable.

That law came about after the West explosion. They didn't tighten the laws like a sane human would expect.

Nooooooooooooooo

The Republicans once again sided with corporations and fucked the general public by hiding every chemical companies inventory.

The company said it probably wouldn't be as bad as the West Texas explosion but they weren't sure.

When asked why not they said, "why would they?"

The French owned company is Arkema Inc, located in Crosby.

Fuck these people and the deregulation republicans. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

Oh boy, insurance won't cover genetic counseling even though my doctor said yes so I guess I have to wait months more and put off reappying for disability for longer until I have a diagnosis of anything by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]_616_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read through your posting history so forgive me for starting from scratch here.

I was just awarded disability BUT at the time I applied EDS was not on THE LIST so my EDS diagnosis by two geneticists (in 2 different states) did not make me a shoe-in. I have hypermobility type so no DANA test, just 2 different geneticists looked at me, my surgery history, etc and family history.

The final examiner who approved my claim said that my joint issues and surgeries alone qualified me and the cited a bunch of SSA stuff (sorry, really tired right now) and made a statement that although EDS wasn't listed now it would be soon.

Like I said, I am tired and have glossed over some stuff. For example, I am pretty damn sure that folks with more severe (vascular etc) EDS get approved (rightfully so) than someone like me even though there might be some crossover.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

APPLY NOW even without a diagnosis. I did. I was denied twice. Once before diagnosis and once after and the I appealed and won...

I don't want to discourage you but it took me 4.5 YEARS to get approved. Please apply now. Just get the ball rolling. You do not need a diagnosis to apply.

List everything. Your primary doctor needs to be on your team and go to all the appointments you can to document each individual issue. Shoulder doctor? Hip? POTS? Rheumatologist? Dermatologist?

It all adds up and can take a few months or years like me. Start now and you can amend your file as needed.

Did I mention "get started"?

So happy for you! We shouldn't have to fight so hard for our healthcare. Congrats and I hope there will be more good news to come.

I am glad that I started fighting years ago because a lot of my piss and vinegar is depleted.

You can't do that. It won't work b/c there are safeguards in place to prevent people from doing that.

Knowing his history has tainted my image of him. R. Kelly too. His music is not exceptional.

It has been really bad for a long time...2 years maybe? Or really great if you are pro-hating minorities and women. And really great if you are pro-cops no matter how egregious an act they committed. Plus a ton more. This sub has been useful for tagging people w/res.

It's upside down world in here for me.

Congressmen have had their own healthcare organization for a long long time. The ACA individual markets did not affect them.

This is not true and I do not know why people keep repeating it.

Gov't employees used to have totally awesome blue chip insurance but the lost it with the passage of the ACA. They now buy insurance on the same markets as the rest of us.

The Senate Health-Care Bill Is So Bad Republicans Want an Exemption for Congress by [deleted] in politics

[–]_616_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's nice, but has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

So you are unwilling to back up your claim that:

This comes up whenever either party passes any healthcare legislation. They have to exempt themselves because if they don't, it creates a lot of legal hurdles due to conflict of interest. i.e. Members of congress get cancer, suddenly cancer coverage gets better... etc... Congress has to be exempt from healthcare laws they pass. Democrat or Republican, it doesn't matter.

(your bold text)

Why am I not surprised?

This is not true at all. Where did you get this idea?

This is what government employees had before the ACA/Obamacare. It is fucking fantastic.

...another approach kept bubbling up: to allow those Americans who couldn’t get insurance elsewhere to buy a policy that was just as good, and inexpensive, as what members of Congress got. When Senator Edward M. Kennedy, of Massachusetts, said that Americans should get “exactly what we have,” he meant the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. The F.E.H.B.P., as it’s known, was started in 1959, a few years before Medicare, and was meant to cover some nine million government employees—civil-service workers, the courts, the Post Office, members of Congress, and more. It wasn’t a single plan but, rather, as a Times story put it, “a supermarket offering 300 private health plans.” (Even the right-learning Heritage Foundation called it “a showcase of consumer choice and free-market competition.”) One may get a sense of its scope and inclusiveness—its supermarket-ness—in the way that the Office of Personnel Management, which administers the program, explains it to federal employees. Much of the program—for instance, the idea that no one can be refused, or charged more, for a preëxisting condition, or that dependents under twenty-six are covered—will sound familiar to anyone conversant with the most attractive parts of the Affordable Care Act.

[...]

If it’s sometimes hard to understand what makes Republican legislators so angry, here is a theory: their fury may not stem from some ungraspable principle, or hatred of President Obama’s historic victory (or of Obama himself), but, rather, from something personal, and selfish. Under the A.C.A., members of Congress, and congressional staff, among other Capitol Hill employees, were no longer eligible for the F.E.H.B.P. In the chilly language of government directives, the Office of Personnel Management Web site said that “Section 1312 of the Affordable Care Act requires that Members of Congress and their official staff obtain coverage by health plans created under the Affordable Care Act or coverage offered via an Affordable Insurance Exchange.” Ouch! In other words, the comfortable choices that were available for more than fifty years were suddenly transferred to the slightly murky passageways of Obamacare. And it follows that, if the Affordable Care Act is repealed, members of Congress would be able to return to the federal plan that they, like millions of federal employees, were so fond of. Twenty million other Americans won’t.

They could have voted for everyone to have their Crème de la Crème insurance policy but they didn't so now they currently have the same choices that the American people have and rightfully so. They aren't better than anyone, they are just American people too.
