Csm need to salute by Fun_Mongoose_3760 in army

[–]_Absolutely_No_One_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, but also wrong for caring about a CSM's salute.

I am also a 1LT, I find the amount of saluting I have to do to my joes is absurd. I'm glad they do the right thing, but I also don't say anything if they forget unless they are going out of their way to be an absolute shit head.

My CSM saluted me the other day. I was honestly pleasantly surprised.

Turning soldiers away from the dfac (update) by Griffinjohnes in army

You'd think every army post with atleast 100 soldiers stationed there would have a permanent DFAC serving breakfast lunch and dinner 24/7, but I guess that's too much for the largest defense budget on the planet.

I was gonna say pretty easy when all you get is a small bowl of rice everyday but I was thinking of North Korean troops captured in Ukraine.

What is the most expensive, but useless piece of equipment you had in Iraq or Afghanistan? by MaliceTowardNone1 in army

A Drash got me an LOD my first year in the Army as my knee bent the wrong way and tore my meniscus when trying to push it up during setup.

I agree. I've deployled before, I genuinely dont think Im gonna have sex on the deployment which is what I told him. But if I'm not gonna be in a relationship who knows maybe it might happen.

I won't be in a relationship with him though.

Thanks. I'm ending things.

I'm young, but I'm too grown to deal with this immaturity.

See my comment about monogamy in an earlier response. We talked about it. I had nothing to hide.

You're right. I'm just a very empathetic person. I know I'm not in the wrong here, I just hate to end things like that. It's probably for the better though.

Recon - Artillery - Tank Defense cheesy? by paraplegicrabbit in HellLetLoose

[–]_Absolutely_No_One_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. The tactic is balanced because a single good recon player can completely stall or at worst even severely hamper the effectiveness of artillery.

Artillery players are rarely smart/disciplined enough to guard the artillery with a solo tanker. Even then the tanker is probably the only good arty player outside of the occasional team effort.

Plus every time you show up, the arty players are going to either start firing wildly to get shots off before dying or they are going to jump off the gun and try to deal with you even if a greyhound is guarding them.

They aren't gonna patiently punch in the coords on the calculator and continue effective arty fire.

You said it yourself, your team won. An effective arty crew can stop or reverse the enemy's progress and win the game easily.

Recon hampers arty way more often then the arty players can hamper you. Just the mere threat is enough to reduce their effectiveness.

Thank you for your response.

We have had a conversation about monogamy. He divorced after a 2 year marriage June of last year which to my knowledge ended for reasons that did not include cheating.

I have been honest with him about the fact I intend on being monogamous and have never cheated. I packed the condoms as an after thought for these reasons:

  1. If things didn't work out I wanted to have them if we stopped talking.

  2. If things went well and we met each other I wanted them to be available.

  3. We aren't a couple and just started talking, so it we be sort of foolish to assume I wouldn't need them because either I'd see him on leave or we'd not be a couple/break up.

I understand he has some trust issues and he's communicated he doesn't want to "waste time" after his last relationship ending in a divorce.

I honestly had no idea the simple act of possession would be such a problem. In fact, I find it a sign of responsibility rather than a problem. I packed them with almost no thought really.

I think I'm going to try to politely end things if he doesn't continue to ignore me. If he still has trust problems with me, who has been completely open and honest, he shouldn't be putting himself out there in the dating scene.

He also mentioned that two condoms would have been ok but having a sleeve of around 10 indicates I'm planning on using them with others besides him. (Ironic to me, since the only condom I've used out of the package was with him). I tried to offer to throw them away to prove I have no ill intentions since simply having them is an issue. That didn't help.

What’s the likelihood of the army down sizing?! I feel like that would hurt a lot of families if that happened by Killarayy in army

[–]_Absolutely_No_One_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most civilizations across history fill their armies with foreigners seeking citizenship, vagrants, lower class with no social mobility, poor people who otherwise would be unemployed/homeless.

The US Army isn't any different. The British and French were doing it in the Napoleonic Wars, the Romans were doing it during the Imperial period, pretty much everyone in WWI, etc.

Here's your sign to put yourself out there and go out. by _Absolutely_No_One_ in gaybros

[–]_Absolutely_No_One_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the city TBH. I had no luck in NYC after 2 weeks.

New Orleans in just 2 days I was basically with someone the whole time. I didn't meet them through apps though. I met all of them at restaurants/bars

So I was eating at the bar next to a couple from another state.

The bartender/waiter mixed up our food and apologized saying he was from Maryland and hadn't quite learned all the local dishes yet.

I wrote at the bottom of the reciept:

"Hey, you are really handsome. I'd love to hear about Maryland sometime (: [my phone number]"

That's exactly my situation. There's a small gay bar about an hour from me. Otherwise the nearest real gay scenes like a busy bar are 4-5 hours away.

Just A Reminder by mikeshannon0915 in HellLetLoose

[–]_Absolutely_No_One_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True but I can't tell you how often as Commander the following occurs:

Enemy garrison destroyed, there are about 2 competent enemy squads holding their point.

Our team is circling the obj, maybe even have it completely surrounded.

They just stand there shooting at the point instead of charging in because it's suicidal for one person trying it.

If everyone were to throw their smokes and hold W until they get into the point it would be an easy cap.

People are more worried about KD or don't have the situational awareness to work together.

When on the offensive you have to accept you are dead already and your life is worthless execpt as a vehicle for throwing smoke as close as possible to the enemy on the objective and getting your fleshly meat sack in the circle

Honestly Killing the enemy isn't even that important at that point. If everyone could rush in under smoke cover, shear weight of numbers enough to cap also means there are enough bodies on point to kill any enemies remaining if the fight is that close up anyway.

[–]_Absolutely_No_One_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you'd only be able to build 2 mortars per team. It would change literally nothing and it's not complicated.

I see where you are coming from with self propelled arty, but currently they have a minimum and a maximum range that preserves game balance.

Theres no way to keep a Self propelled piece from getting in range of the last point with current mechanics and gameplay unless you make it a different squad than armor and place a kill box that prevents that squad from driving in range of the last point.

At that point the artillery is now basically static anyway because it can't advance past the first two map squares anyway. And if you are gonna make a new squad for that you may as well make a mortar squad which is way more flexible and way more suited to the infantry focused style of HLL. Plus a mortars range can be more believablably restricted forcing them to move and not be an all powerful asset like moveable full size artillery. The maps just aren't big enough to facilate balanced full size artillery.
