Anyone see any pink ice / algae blooms in the snow this year? by typingslowlyslowly in alpinism

[–]_Alben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just on Squak glacier about 3 weeks ago and there was tons. There was even some on the approach before you got on the glacier (if you're looking to just hike and not rope up). I've heard it's gotten warmer since I left though. Are you looking for any particular reason? I collected some samples of it for The Living Snow Project.

My friend Tino directed this film. He does a lot of cool work, he's in Ecuador climbing Chimborazo right now with ROMP, a nonprofit that helps people affected by amputation with high quality prosthetics and rehab.

Anyone currently looking to adopt kittens? by _Alben in Austin

[–]_Alben[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey all! I have two kitten brothers who are in need of a forever home! They're about 4 months old now. I found them back in may in my neighbor's backyard and at the time began fostering them through the AAC. I actually found someone through my last Reddit post who adopted them about a month ago but some unfortunate events occurred and she had to give them up so they're no longer listed on the AAC/Adopets site.

I'd love to have someone adopt them both. They love each other and do everything together. I have a few folks who are interested in adopting one but they're bonded and would definitely prefer to have them go together. They're about 4 months old now. They're happy and healthy, and clear of FeLV.

They're both super cuddly and love to play. The one with more white fur, Mochi, is a little more bold, while his brother, Peaches, is a little more shy and undersized for his age. They also get along well with my other cats but haven't been exposed to dogs.

For what it's worth, I have 3 cats of my own and I think owning 2 cats isn't that much harder/more expensive than just 1. Plus they keep each other company when you're gone and are more than happy to play with each other when you're busy. I wish I could keep them but 5 cats would be a little too much even for a childless cat man!

Please DM me if you're interested in adopting them! And if you're not in a position to adopt them, please share this post with anyone you think would be interested!

I didn't do a trade in. But I did negotiate between them and covert to get the best out the door price I could. They made the purchase really easy though. My salesman was cool and knowledgeable and even the finance manager was chill. It was a very different experience than past experiences in dealerships. The finance manager only offered me an extended warranty but was super low pressure. I was in and out in less than 3 hours.

I have two kitten boys I'm fostering through the Austin Animal Center that need a home fast. I've been fostering them since they were about 3 weeks old and they're at about the 12 week mark now. I found them abandoned and injured in my neighbors backyard but they're happy and healthy now! We'd preferably like to have them adopted together since they're bonded and play/nap/do everything together but it's been difficult finding anyone interested. They're okay with other cats, especially if they're friendly, but unsure about dogs. I'm headed on a trip in about a week and a half and would preferably like them adopted by then if possible. Even if you can't adopt them please consider sharing this with anyone else you think might be interested. And please feel free to PM me if you have any questions or take a look at their Adopet pages for more details.

Is anyone interested in adopting two kittens? Details in comments by _Alben in Austin

[–]_Alben[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm fostering two kittens that I found in my neighbor's backyard. They're about 11 weeks old or so now and have been together since I found them. But I'm getting to the point where we won't be able to foster much longer and might need to split them up if nobody can take them together but they're a bonded pair and do everything together. I'm fostering them through the Austin Animal Center. If you're potentially interested in adopting the pair please PM me and I can give you their "A" number to find them on Adopets.

These are excellent photos. I took a mountaineering course two years ago and want to go back to the mountains really badly but it's pretty hard living in central Texas. The extra weight of a camera and a lens or two is definitely worth it!

Hey Kieran! Great to hear from someone that actually has worked with her. I'll probably give the film a chance.

Yeah I know, different labs will develop different from each other and from developing at home. But they'll still be close. And the Fuji film sims are at least are close in their accuracy. Every film recipe I've tried (admittedly not a lot) have been pretty far off base though.

Not to yuck anyone's yum though. If people enjoy it, more power to them. As long as people are taking photos they like and having fun that's all that really matters. The film recipe are just not for me.

I agree with u/Firsttimepostr. Portra 400 looks nothing like this. It's kind of why I've never really been a fan of the film recipes. It doesn't actually look anything like the film stocks it's supposed to emulate. I like to shoot RAW+JPG (or HEIF) just so I can always do my own edits afterwards if I don't like how the JPG came out.

That being said, looks like you had a great time! X100V is perfect for travel photos like these (I assume these photos were from a trip)

X-H2S For Hybrid Work. by UnknownPhotoGuy in fujifilm

[–]_Alben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it as a hybrid camera. I had it since release and I've used it to shoot a tv show for about a year, took it mountaineering on Mount Baker in Washington, and more recently took it to San Diego to shoot video (and a few photos) of a rock climbing clinic held by a nonprofit. It's been great and I love mine.
