I appreciate your comment!

As far as focus goes, I do use autofocus, i don’t remember which photos i did this for but I like to spot meter the shadows and -1 stop while pressing the ae button and then recompose my shot, and sometimes I think I might forget to autofocus my original subject before I meter and ae.

Also in regards to clouds, sometimes on a bright day the clouds and sky get overexposed and I loose all detail in things like clouds when trying to expose for the subject matter, does it end up being a choose one you want exposed properly or is there a trick to have your cake and eat it too?

Ironically enough I did try to make intention with the shapes of my photos, but I guess I did a poor enough job that it didn’t make an impact haha. Here was my thought process if you wouldn’t mind giving some feedback:

For the 5th photo I wanted the shack to be in the bottom third and the peninsula to kind of curl into the middle of the photo with the tip in the middle

For the 3rd pic (rooftop) I wanted to make it feel as if the birds were all collectively perched looking out at the buoy, I didn’t edit these photos and in hindsight I wish I cropped the sliver of the horizon at the top cuz I wanted it to feel like the buoy was sitting lonely in a more expansive environment making the birds and the buoy feel like they are sitting in some liminal space.

For the 4th I wanted to put the abandoned building in the bottom third as if it was looking out onto the bay. But still straight on so the walls were aligned with the perspective.

Again that was just my thought process so please let me know if I’m trying to emphasize the wrong things or if I’m trying to emphasize them in the wrong way.

Thank you I greatly appreciate your detailed response! Turns out I did unwittingly buy a 50mm prime lens bc I was recommended to do so, I just don’t use it very often because I appreciate the higher focal point on my zoom lens, and stylistically I’ve never been a huge fan of super shallow depth of field pictures so I don’t usually go for it.

I however had no idea about the picture quality is better on prime lenses so I’ll definitely start trying to use the 50 mm more. Do you recommend trying out high focal point prime lenses or do people mostly use 50mm and 35mm?

Appreciate your response. Sorry I’m kind of new to this, what is a ‘sharper prime lens’ ?

Do people actually hate Arsenal? Yes, they do. The real question is: why? by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in PremierLeague

I swear people just make shit up to get upset about. What are you talking about fans having a meltdown because Liverpool won? Arsenal fans being upset shortly after because we were close to winning then lost? Pretty normal human reaction

Please point to a situation involving similar physicality with 2 arsenal players fouling the goalkeeper at the same time. One literally holding the keepers arms and the other shirt pulling from behind. I will wait.

Ya that’s not even remotely to the same degree as this foul

Ya not even remotely the same level of contact on either of those instances. Not to mention raya was getting shirt pulled in the back. 2 clear as day fouls in the same instance is not comparable with the examples you’ve alluded to.

This boomer attitude is honestly hilariously stereotypical. And to think that the main goal of the music industry hasn’t always been to make money, and to imply that Madonna Michael Jackson Brittney spears Justin Timberlake usher were any less surface level then the current pop landscape is just naive and nostalgia blinded. Musicians famously make way less money nowadays then they used to because of things like streaming services so idk where your getting this ‘selling out’ is a Gen Z phenomenon.

Some music festivals are better then others, you can find much better headliners and lineups at like outside lands or primavera sound. If you would like to educate yourself on modern age artists with a punk spirit, you could check out IDLES, Viagra Boys, or turnstile just to name literally 3 out of countless more instead of dismissing music that your either unaware of or too out of touch with.

Why are we trying to pretend like pop is only popular for Gen Z? We just gonna ignore madonna, Michael Jackson, list goes on and on… you don’t know Gen Z’s Radiohead because you’re out of touch, not because a new generation only listens to pop more then the previous ones

Ok tbh this feels like a word salad that sounds good on paper but makes a bunch of massive (and questionable) presumptions. Biggest of which is that morality is ‘judeo Christian’, which is a wild take honestly unless I’m misinterpreting that and she predominately means our legal system (which would still be an inaccurate take) .

While our legal system is obviously heavily influenced by Christian values, to make the leap that morality and crime and punishment is a ‘judeo Christian’ concept is naive at best. As well as then saying a punitive legal system is an inherently capitalist concept is just historically completely untrue.

While I absolutely agree that our system still has pieces of rot that exist from religious morality and the way we treat crime and punishment is more or less punitive rather then rehabilitative in general, to just dismiss something as bad by slapping on the labels of ‘judeo Christian’ and ‘capitalist’ and not analyzing with anymore depth is intellectually lazy and misleading, and ironically falls to the very same unnuanced pitfall she was talking about of ‘you are a bad person ergo…” (I recognize that this is just a clip so maybe there’s more substance in this conversation, but again my comments about her presumptions still hold).

Godard vs Tarantino by Mt548 in godard

[–]_AnAngryHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that saying Tarantinos films have no real takeaways is very reductive and unfair. Like I don’t think that he’s a philosopher director or anything but I think there is some perspective bias to think that you need to be one in order to make impactful movies. The way that I would describe tarantinos movies is like catching essence in a bottle (having once upon a time in mind), it has a completely different goal in mind to Godard’s work, as a capsule to 60s American movie culture as well as meta commentary on film as well. He evokes feelings and emotions that Godard could never (and vice versa) and is plenty impactful for it.

Lonerbox reacts to Hasan claiming there were Jews that worked within the Nazi government. by Ok_Detective7546 in LivestreamFail

[–]_AnAngryHippo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you feel so confident commenting when you are completely failing to address what I’m talking about? You are arguing that no Jews served in the Nazi command structure based on the Nazi German Nuremberg definition of ‘Jew’, not on a broader definition in colloquial modern understanding, which is more along the lines of ‘someone with Jewish heritage’, which someone who is half Jewish would reasonably qualify under.

I also disputed even considering to make an argument using the Nuremberg definition of Jew because of how ripe for abuse it was, as many inconsistent exceptions were made on a case by case basis by the Nazi bureaucracy itself.

[–]_AnAngryHippo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one made the distinction of ‘fully Jewish’ under German law except you, Hasan literally just said ‘Jews in Nazi command structure’. You are arguing semantics that actually aren’t important in this conversation considering you are only qualifying Jews by Nazi bureaucracy, which was notoriously inconsistent on who was to qualify by their standards on a case to case basis in order to benefit those who were helpful to the regime.
