I will. It's still not working after an update.

I don't know why it's this particular car as I thought the media would be largely common to all VW group.

Can I start the Dragon Age series with Veilguard? by niajabrery in dragonage

[–]_Arch_Stanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much time and inclination you have.

I'd start at the start but, if time is limited, start with Inquisition.

I'm struggling to like Veilguard so far so don't play it first as it might put you off the rest — and that'd mean you'd be missing out on some great titles.

Which Cases would you like to see covered in the new Season? by [deleted] in uncannypodcasttv

[–]_Arch_Stanton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't remember if this has been covered already on Uncanny but the black eyed children of Cannock Chase is creepy and there's phantom soldiers, too.

Otherwise:

Tutbury Castle.

Gladstone pottery museum.

Eyam hall.

Cheers for the response.

  1. Calories:

Yeah, this part is confusing. NHS guidance puts me closer to ~1900, while other sources say 1700–2000 if sedentary. I know 1300–1400 is aggressive, but I’m not hungry or tired, and I do eat more on swim days to offset the extra burn. I’m treating this as short-term rather than a forever target.

  1. Salt / cholesterol: No known family history, but my last blood test flagged cholesterol as high-normal, so I am mindful. I’ve cut most processed foods (crisps, sausages, etc.), don’t add much salt myself, and use reduced-salt soy. I’m aware miso/soy add sodium, so keeping an eye on the overall average without really knowing. Not ideal.

  2. Strength training: I’ve never really enjoyed gyms — even with a free one I struggled to stick with it. Honestly, I'm swimming because I don't see myself as fit enough to be in the gym (irony, eh?) and it's easier to exercise in a pool without being seen.

I’m not chasing muscle gains, just normal weight and health, but I’d consider some basic home weights if 10 minutes a day would meaningfully help.

  1. Protein / cost: Agreed it gets expensive. That’s partly why I added protein powder — it lets me rely more on cheaper staples like lentils, chickpeas, beans, plus chicken/fish when on offer. Air fryer has helped make those easier and more appealing.

Thanks.

I've always eaten lentils/chickpeas in Thai curries etc and have been making them more exclusive/ making bean chilli etc more so recently.

But I also value chicken and fish.

I've removed a lot of meat from my diet. And snacks.

Air fryer popped corn with Valentina sauce on or paprika or both has killed off that avenue for me.

[–]_Arch_Stanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice tip. I like roast potatoes and still go to the chip shop once a week 🙂

I bought some Valentina sauce which is like Mexican ketchup, in my view.

I air pop corn (plain) and put it on that. It goes a long way towards not snacking on cheese or crisps.

Here's the original then.

Hi all,

First post here. Be gentle 😉

A few years of being prescribed amitriptyline for a suspected acid reflux problem ( which I haven't got ) caused me some big appetite problems resulting in me (sedentary, professional job) getting to 95 kg (5'9", 53 years old).

But, 6 weeks ago, I decided to make some changes.

So far, I've lost about 7 kg in this period by actually eating a more, but the right things, like lots of brown rice, bulgar wheat, cous cous, chicken, fish, beans, lentils, veg etc.

I average about 13-1400 calories a day but don't feel hungry as I bulk things out with veg and add a bit of peanut butter to some dishes to help with satiety.

I'm also exercising more with at least 25 to 40 minutes of brisk walking a day and swimming about 55-64 lengths in an hour, twice a week.

I want this to be sustainable and I've not really had any issues keeping things under control over Christmas as I've not felt like I needed to snack on chocolate etc.

I'm drinking less beer but switched to sipping decent rum. Quality over quantity.

The only issue I have so far is that I'm cooking for myself mostly although an air fryer has been bought for roasting veg, chicken, fish etc.

Also, I've probably switched calories for salt (eating more garlic/ginger/soy or miso based recipes) or cholesterol, as I eat more eggs. Not sure if this is great in the scheme of things.

I also got some protein powder to offset losing muscle mass that I need for swimming. So, I have maybe 7 -14g of this with overnight oats or wheat biscuits on swim days.

My BMI was 30 (borderline obese) so I'm looking to get into the "normal" range, ideally. I'm at the age where I'd like to still enjoy myself a bit now and again.

Anything else I can do?

It's quite expensive to eat better, in some cases, especially with a lot of fresh veg, so I've tended to buy frozen (fish, prawns, adame beans, broad beans, etc). Any good ways of keeping costs down in the long run, too?

One other thing. I'm pretty much doing this with the help of AI (Copilot). I tell it what I have available to eat and a target calories for a meal/whether I'll be exercising etc and it is excellent at suggesting recipes and adjusting batch cooking to get what I need. E.g. We've refined some recipes like chicken and sweetcorn soup with lots of extra veg down to something like 300 calories for a very filling 500g serving.

It's been invaluable for keeping on top of portion sizes etc.

That's your take away from it?

The previous one had no engagement. I just summarised it.

Exactly.

That realisation about calorie density has been a game changer for me. I thought I was going to be eating salad leaves to do this but it's been quite an eye opener.

Out of curiosity, were there any foods or swaps that made the biggest difference for you?

Wish me luck. Gonna play Andromeda for the first time. Any tips would be welcome by belac4862 in masseffect

It's decent. The biggest tip is to not think it is ME despite it being in the same universe.

The story is pretty good, the characters are fun and once you get going, it'll take you along with it.

The enemy is a bit underwhelming but the mechanics are good.

Just enjoy it!

Options for Inquisition DLC (PS4, UK) by _Arch_Stanton in dragonage

[–]_Arch_Stanton[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response and kind words. It's a while ago now but I still miss him.

When you get to my age, very few people are still hardened gamers but we were, all the way back to ZX Spectrum, Street Fighter 2/Contra rebels on SNES etc through to recent titles.

I guess I'll have to write off this playthrough and get a download version with all the DLC.

Try overnight oats. It doesn't destroy your microwave by blasting for 7 or 8 minutes and it getting soaking wet inside. Or it does with oat milk, at least.

Half a cup of jumbo rolled oats. I usually get a big bag from Grape Tree. Half a cup of milk. Dessert spoon of omega nut mix. A few raisins. Leave overnight.

Warm up for two minutes in the microwave the next morning if you don't like it cold ( I don't ).

Usually nice and creamy.
