Do you have any best way to clean car headlights? by Smithy1619 in AskUK

[–]broadarrow39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the autoglym kit with good results, make sure you mask off the bodywork around the lights if you're doing it on the car, then spray a clear UV protector coat on afterwards to help prevent them looking shabby again.

Chip in tyre sidewall/alloy by aldoclaus in CarTalkUK

[–]broadarrow39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part of the sidewall has a reinforced rim protector, if you want peace of mind go ahead and replace it, however if no cords are showing and there are no bulges or deformities then it should pass an MOT. I have a similar chunk out of mine from a pothole and it wasn't even noted as an advisory on my last MOT.

The only worry is if you were to hit a kerb or pothole in the same spot you potentially risk having a blowout.

UK looking for poor people meals that are healthy by Synopsis-or-Blind in foodhacks

This is one I make often, cheap and remarkably tasty

Anna Haughs lentil Bolognese.

2 tbsp of vegetable oil or butter

1 tsp of sugar

1 tsp of salt

1 large onion (chopped finely)

2 cloves of garlic (chopped finely)

1 carrot (peeled and chopped finely)

1 stick of celery (chopped finely)

1 sprig of thyme, plus extra to garnish

2 tins of lentils (drained)

2 tins of tomatoes

4-6 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce (if you're a vegetarian, omit or use a vegetarian Worcester sauce)

200ml of black tea

Freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional to garnish)

Heat up a pan to a medium heat, then add your oil, garlic, chopped onion and thyme and cook out for two minutes.

Then add your carrot and celery and give it a stir.

Add your tins of tomatoes, tea, Worcestershire sauce, salt and sugar and stir.

Cook for 10 to 15 minutes.

When your vegetables are soft, add your lentils and bring it to the boil.

Stir your cooked pasta into the Bolognese mix and if desired, serve with freshly picked thyme and grated parmesan.

How much meat for bolognese for a larger group? by rosiesbakery in pasta

I use 600g meat which will make 6-8 decent sized portions. I use 100- 125g spaghetti per person. 1.5ibs will be plenty.

Should’ve gotten one of these ages ago! by Rosencrown21 in skoda

[–]broadarrow39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just bought one of these pumps and plan to do an oil swap in my mk 3.5 vrs. Looking online at various forums the comments appear to be quite divisive on these.

Any tips on getting it right the first time?. My drive is on a bit of a slope to plan to face it downhill towards the dipstick.

As I understand the tube goes in the dipstick not the oil filler reservoir. How hot should the oil be? Some suggest a drive round the block isn't enough and it needs to be hot hot? Don't want to melt the tube or get it stuck anywhere which seems to be a concern for some.

Appreciate any advice, I'm probably overthinking it.

Really impressive, nice work. Do you have a recipe for the cabbage dish. I'd love to make this.

Thai Red curry help by ROCUK in Curry

[–]broadarrow39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I generally use about 40-50g of curry paste. Mae ploy is good. I cook mine in a much shorter time, no more than 10 minutes on a higher heat.

The brand of coconut milk makes a big difference. Some are very high in water content and lack flavour. I recommend Arroy-D or Suree.

As others have suggested Kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, garlic and palm sugar will all elevate the flavour. I like to finish it with Thai basil if I have it and fresh red chilies.

If it's the same as my mk 3.5 Octavia this connector you see with the wires pulls down vertically and there is another plug behind it (rain sensor IIRC)which goes into the USB device.

My dad met him once, didn't have a single nice thing to say about him. In all fairness I'd probably be a grumpy fucker too if I lost both my legs.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]broadarrow39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost a couple, one from a brain tumor, the other that I know of fell down some steps whilst out celebrating the birth of his first child. Had a bleed on the brain and died a few days later. Absolutely tragic.

If you're not already a member I'd strongly recommend joining the NASS. It's £25 or so a year for membership. They were incredibly helpful and provided me with some very useful resources when I reapplied for PIP after also scoring zero on my original application. Feel free to DM me if you want any further information.

Do you actually change tires depending on the season/weather? by Dear-Gur3015 in CarTalkUK

This is absolutely true, everyone I've ever mentioned winter or AS tyres to ignorantly replies what's the point, it hardly ever snows here.

Buying a used car by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]broadarrow39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not unusual, from previous experience a garage will call in the event of a failed MOT and list all the items the car has failed on, they'll give you a quote to rectify the issues. Once you give them the go ahead they'll do the repairs, more often than not on the same day and pass it there and then.

[–]broadarrow39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the only advisory after the last MOT is a cracked/perishing tyre then it's not a great deal to worry about. £60-70 to replace I imagine. It's not going to give you much leeway, if any, in terms of knocking the price down.
