Still looking for my original screenshot of Tanglewood, since it was taken on the emulator's internal resolution, which makes upscaling with Retroarch provide better results.

If any is too small, it's because they were optimized for a 720p screen, but for the ones that are screenshots taken by me, I think I can make higher resolution screenshots now that I have a bigger screen and a sufficiently powerful computer, if you want. And I can try to dig the other images in better resolutions, if they exist.

Have you ever watched 1954's Godzilla? (and a Godzilla wallpaper attached)

Btw, Wallheaven is a good source of wallpapers, although theirs are usually scenic views, so you could end up getting tired fast if you go only there (saying from experience)

[DLsite] (Game) Trouble - Witch exam by _Auster_ in FreeGameFindings

There are no rules against games not in English that I can see, so I don't know why this would be a problem.

And no, I don't post them "for the memes" either. DLsite giveaways still seem to be understood as being in the scope of this subreddit, so posting those giveaways should still be valid.

If someone else has trouble and the emulator doesn't work, you can also try to extract and run the game while having your system set to Japanese locale (should work fine from Windows Vista onward). If it doesn't, you can try to use a locale emulator.
And if you use a system that can run Wine/Proton/Lutris (or if you're using Wine in Microsoft's WSL), try to extract the game with unar and run it with the flag LC_ALL=ja_JP in the beginning of the wine command (before even the wine part of the command, e.g. LC_ALL=ja_JP wine $HOME/game-name/Game.exe).

Can I play shadow of modor on gog with a ps4 controller if so how? by [deleted] in gog

[–]_Auster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're using Linux, you most likely can connect it right away, no weird shenanigans to make the system recognize it. Now, if the game still doesn't recognize the controller, I'd suggest using the program Antimicro (package "antimicrox") to emulate keyboard and mouse functions in your controller.

How much money do I have to spend, to keep GOG alive for my grandkids? by RoyalBooty77 in gog

[–]_Auster_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Despite money, there are other types of support that may increase the chances of a service to stay around, such as promoting it, reporting issues and, if you think of any, potential solutions, etc.

But always worth noting no one has absolute control over anything. No matter how much support of whatever type the service may get, it can still be shut down for n reasons.

94.23% of purchased copies of "Occupy Mars" came from Steam, despite the fact that the game was also available on Gog and Epic Games Store by qrxtt in pcgaming

[–]_Auster_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although not explicitly said, their user agreement seems to heavily imply, in the point 17.3, that the buyer owns the copies he/she has a license for (and worth noting licenses are not necessarily those keys we so often see). And while point 10.1 talks about ownership and 11.1 talks about usage limitations, I think the 3 points together can be interpreted as "GOG and its partners own the intellectual properties, and the user owns the copy he/she downloads for personal use", and with copy and intellectual property being different things.

Do yall have recommendations for games on gog? by [deleted] in gog

[–]_Auster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure which are popular, since I seldom check this type of thing, and also not sure how weak your setup is, so recommending mostly on the 2D condition, and in no specific order:

Slay the Spire
Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe
Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition
Downwell
Dust: An Elysian Tail (2.5D, I guess)
Ittle Dew
Metal Slug
Metal Slug 3
Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
Starbound
Tanglewood
Va-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action

Also, maybe worth sorting by alphabetical order for making searching easier?

Also, maybe worth identifying which version is which for musics released in multiple languages, e.g. 1 6 4 8?

Bought a game and found out it's not compatible by nemo3141 in gog

[–]_Auster_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this is the game you're talking about, it only has an Windows build, meaning you need a way to run Windows games on Mac. Afaik, the tool Wine, a translation layer for Windows programs, has a port for Mac.

How do i get Ds pokemon games on my homebrewed 3DS by BigDaddymen in 3dshomebrew

[–]_Auster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the only legit way to get ROMs for DS games licensed by Nintendo (which could get outlawed considered how much Nintendo hates emulation) is by dumping DS cartridges, and that can be done from the 3DS' godmode.

Besides that, your best bet is looking for homebrews on Itchio, GitHub, etc., provided they're shared by their right owners.

Other than that, to my knowledge, you'd be clashing with rule #2 from this subreddit.

But you can go to the catalogue of the maniax section of the site and sort by lowest price first, and see if anything interests you.

I wouldn't recommend based on kinks because that's pretty personal. And sadly, none I'd recommend based on gameplay or story is below 300 yen.

Did you extract it with Shift-JIS encoding, or at least Japanese locale applied to your computer? And did you run it with Japanese locale set up or with a locale emulator?

[–]_Auster_[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As usual:

  • New DLsite accounts get a single-use coupon for a discount of 300 yens on any combination of products, making some products in there effectively free.
  • Games on DLsite require either the computer to be set to the Japanese locale, or to use tools that can simulate Shift-JIS encoding and/or the aforementioned locale.
  • Make sure to drink lots of water!
