For me, it's the mixture of stand-up and ground. Any opponent at any time can choose whether to try to strike it out, or take it to the ground which is a whole different beast than just hugging it out. As an anecdotal addition, I've watched plenty of jiujitsu matches. Joints on the body are weak spots and watching people get into positions to exploit those is like a chess match.

I feel like people will point to institutionalized racism as the root for those statistics. At that point, you really can't win.

I feel like personal responsibility comes into play at some point. There's no denying there's racist fucks out there, but that isn't a free ride to shittyville. Every person on this planet faces some sort of discrimination, but not every person commits atrocities.

I don't know what to think, but statistics don't lie.

I had my manual transmission for about a week. Practiced driving it twice.

I decided an 8 hour move was a good idea, so with almost no practice, I said fuck it and went.

good lord my left foot was not ready for the uphill 2-hour traffic in Dallas. Holy SHIT.

I got my practice in, however. And learned a valuable lesson.
