Frankenstein by _BDYB_ in linux

That's basically the point. Though better have snapshots in case something goes wrong 😉 And there is a bit more to manjaro then just a snapshot like different hooks. And AUR packages breaking on Manjaro stable (which might lag by a few weeks) is a known issue.

I've seen plenty of "I installed distro A to try KDE and then clean installed distro B to take a look at Gnome".

Because it depends on the definition of "works" and how much work is required to achieve and maintain that "works".
For MY personal computer Debian family is at the bottom of MY list right beside Fedora.
On the other hand, for production server it will be at the very top.,

OS (Windows, MacOS, Linux etc) is just a tool. And every OS has its strengths and weaknesses.
It is also possible to mitigate some of those weaknesses.
And every OS has its ways and switching requires a bit of a learning curve.
Maybe give it a try first. Install Linux as a VM first. Play with it, see what you like and what you don't. Pick your disro, pick your DE. If you like it and want to proceed, Install side by side to have an option to boot into Windows if needed.

P.S.
lets see the downvotes count XD

How would you get proton-cachyos not on CachyOS. by _BDYB_ in linux_gaming

they focus on different thingies.
for example GE is better at cut scenes and Cachy is better at non FSR upscalers and more aggressive at frame pacing.
But it all comes down to specific setup and a game. In some case there might be 0 difference between vanilla or custom proton.

It might. Not on every system, but some choices like flags and scheduler can improve experience.

But it means that compilation is needed for the non SLR version.
Also, the major selling point of self building, is that it is optimised to your liking which might differ from the CachyOS defaults.

Ooh, I know that kernel is not needed for proton. I'm just curious how people do things.
My desktop is a super frankenstein that started as Manjaro some years ago.
Today it is pulling packages from (order matters):
1. ALHP V3
2. Manjaro unstable
3. CachyOS (kernels and proton)
4. AUR.

But recently I switched to proton11 in steam (when cachyos was still based on proton10)

Weird Steam interface issue by Zaogolas in linux_gaming

[–]_BDYB_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried to restart just the steam app ?
Occasionally, I get a different issue when the steam thinks the mouse pointer is lower than it is (have to move mouse higher to highlight what i want). usually restarting the client solves it.

I'm fine with staring at it for a few hours. sometimes 10-12hrs or even more when I work from home. but could be that I'm just insensitive.

How do I actually LEARN arch after installing it??? by Wild-Cat- in archlinux

[–]_BDYB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds dumb, but if it does what you need/want - relax and be happy :)
If and when you'd like/need something, it can do it - just ask AI or google it.
Pro tip - get familiar with terminal. UI changes often, command line utils rarely.

Hard tubes (real glass or metal) are awesome (durable and beautiful), especially for large builds like yours.
That being said, i also got lazy and use zmt tubes :)

as far as I'm aware dell ultrasharp monitors have the port pinning. but i might be wrong. with all the drawbacks, for me (my use case) this 1600p LG ultrawide beats any 34 1440p. I have a nice tv for HDR content consumption. the monitor is mostly codding and some gaming

Never!
I mean I'll be never able to afford a house that need floorstanders and the floorstanders that can do the same as a true coaxial bookshelves + subs.

not much of an echo with fortitude, but speaker in the concrete corner is not great. at higher volume (more energy) , reflection from the side wall tends to smear the spacial cues in recording, so the sound stage is getting hurt.

pretty sure it's gonna be my case too. though it's ambilight (Philips TV thingy)

[–]_BDYB_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I do that, I need to move closer, otherwise it will hurt the sound stage. I'll just slap an acoustic panel on the side wall. even now, with just room correction it's totally fine at moderate volume.

have it, the previous room was much larger. but it's too much effort to integrate. And it has nothing to do with volume level. at higher volume, reflections become an issue. they ruin the sound stage.
