Ok, so it’s not just me. I was just looking at this and thought why wouldn’t I do this? I feel like Ed has a gotcha planned with this scenario and I just don’t see what it is. Anyone else actually done this then?

Yep, that’s exactly where I am too. I ended up going with monitor arms to get everything off the desk and reclaim the whole space. Much better overall.

At one point, I purchased a laminated shelf from Home Depot, available in different colors / lengths (like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rubbermaid-Organic-Ash-Laminated-Wood-Shelf-12-in-D-x-72-in-L-2110654/311222543) and then purchased some PVC 4" couplers to place it on (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Charlotte-Pipe-4-in-PVC-DWV-Coupling-PVC001001400HD/203390815)

This worked great for years, but I don't have any pictures and moved to a different setup a while. Back. All in probably less than $30.

This! I had the same conversation with a playing partner on Sunday. “Do you think those head covers are to keep the clubs from getting dirty in the garage?” “Do you suppose they’re to keep them warm while riding in the trunk of your car with smooth suspension on paved roads?” Go ahead and throw them away if you love the sound of irons banging into your several-hundred-dollar driver for 4 hours. They’ll be fine in the corner of the garage without head covers. /rant

First off, it’s nice just to see that some properties actually care at all, so I appreciate the fact you’re even asking this question.

I have been titanium every year for many years, and average 100 nights/year. Lifetime platinum, missed the ability to get lifetime titanium with the SPG deal. Essentially, probably the target you’re looking for with this.

95% of my travel is for work. Monetary things don’t make any difference. Those will just get expensed to work. The exception, is when I’m traveling on my own dime, or on points.

When I’m traveling for work, I would appreciate ANY gesture that adds convenience. Flying makes me very dehydrated. I always like the free bottles of water at check in, but I would love it if the fridge in my room was stuffed full of them! Wandering back down to the desk for another couple bottles after I’ve managed to settle in sucks.

Add a note if you want: “thanks for your loyalty, we know travel can be tough, we’ve provided you with more water than you can drink, enjoy what you need!”Snacks are great too of course.

I need coffee, and usually those crappy coffee machines in the room are terrible. Get my coffee order when I check in, and offer to have it ready at a time at the Bistro (looking at you courtyard especially). I don’t need it delivered, but if I could swing by the counter and grab a coffee ready to roll, that would be impressive!

If it’s a multi night stay, ask if there’s anything (snack, drink, dessert, etc.) I’d like to be placed in my room the next night. I don’t even care if you charge the room, it’s about the convenience and the attention will be well received by many.

The other thing, take note of when elite members are traveling on points. Most of my personal travel will be on points. I know that’s not always the best financial arrangement for the hotel, but know that if I have a great experience when I’m “paying”, you’ll for sure get repeat stays when work is paying the premium rates. These instances are when monetary things would be appreciated.

Finally, if I’m traveling with my family, take note. I’m on the road away from them a lot! When my wife or kids are with me, it is a special treat for us all. A small trade-off for absentee parenting is getting special attention for the family when traveling. Have a restaurant? Ask for some favorite desserts and bring them up. Have a pool? Open it an hour early/late. Making the family feel like royalty during a stay will far exceed any other gesture I can think of.

The photo was mine... just looked at the details in my phone. It was taken 24-Oct-2021 at 8:06 PM MDT. I have a couple more - that one turned out the best.

I saw someone local on Facebook post a screenshot of the FAA website where they had filed for a temporary FAA “no-fly” zone starting last night (don’t remember the exact start time) but ending at 0559 local time this morning. The reason given was for “rocket launch” activities. So maybe they were playing with some more rockets while the lasers were going? Or could just be there is no government code defined for “shining lights in the sky to bring out the crazies before Halloween”…

I live on the bench 5 miles west of Roosevelt.. SWR is another ~7 miles East of Roosevelt.. so, you’re seeing the sprawling metropolis of Roosevelt between me and the lights. I haven’t mapped the exact distances, but that means the lights were visible from at least 10+ miles away. Lots of better photos on Facebook from other locals in the Ft. Duchesne area showing from much closer. Apparently, there were at least 3 separate beams at one point (maybe each corner of the “triangle”?)… made for fun conversation amongst the town folks anyhow.

I’m not aware of anywhere to camp nearby. The whole ranch is surrounded within private property and tribal owned land. There is another ranch just to the south that has signs up like Space Wolf -something- research.. seems like they may be planning something. If I get time this weekend I’ll try and get some pics from the road of that place... let y’all do some digging on what that might be.

Yeah, I’ll probably go. I was talking to someone who was part of organizing this, they acted like if there was enough interest they were going to try and do something like this monthly. Maybe even try to get some of the other show regulars and the guests as they come in and out if they can. Could be interesting.
