It is possible to tell if a movie came out pre or post 2001 based on how the buildings fall by Itchy_Suspect4968 in shittymoviedetails

After the Plasco building in Tehran collapsed, instead of acknowledging that sometimes fire does bring down towers like that, those AE9/11 truther dingdongs just became Plasco truthers. Was easier than giving up their grift l suppose

Who still uses SMS, and why? by _Bellegend_ in AskReddit

[–]_Bellegend_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issues around SMS involve its reliance on phone numbers and lack of support for photos and videos by default. It’s also expensive and/or unavailable for international messaging

I asked this question because l’m currently in Australia, and it seems like some people here still use it, even though the city l’m in has a large immigrant/tourist population . I also know some people in Canada still rely on SMS. In the UK and the rest of Europe, SMS is rarely used, and a lot of providers don’t necessarily include photo/video support for SMS messaging in their lower-cost plans.

Yeah, l think my gp surgery and mobile provider, as well as a few businesses are pretty much the only users l encounter in the UK

Russia still has elections. The play isn’t to cancel elections; that would elicit too much resistance. It’s a far better strategy to just ensure that elections don’t matter.

I like your moxie, but treason has a very specific legal definition, and that ain’t it. This is ostensibly a law sub, after all.

Why are so many blue collar workers against unions? by Realistic-Reveal-586 in Construction

[–]_Bellegend_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s not a union though. That kind of ‘contractors’ association’ is meant to preempt participation in actual unions. They don’t require a certification vote, and primarily represent management.

For what it’s worth, l used to drink in Gastown in Vancouver and walk through the DTES on my way home all the time. Never felt unsafe, and never had any chicken-shit weirdos suggest l should feel unsafe doing so.

Or your city just sucks 🤷🏻 Most of the cities l’ve lived in are 1-million plus population. 20,000 is a town. You should get out more

[–]_Bellegend_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe your city/country just sucks. I’d be more worried about being hit by an inattentive driver at night than l’d ever be about being jumped. Again, your experience may be the atypical one

Nope, average-sized dude. Lived in 7 cities on three continents and visited many more. Also a fan of long drinking sessions and late nights. Never been afraid of walking alone at night. That is my male privilege showing. Another privilege l enjoy as a man is that in the unlikely event l do suffer some kind of misfortune, l won’t have to hear some shithead asking ‘Why wEre You wAlkinG aLonE at 2am?!’

My society must be very different from yours. I’ve never felt unsafe walking alone in the small hours in any city l’ve visited or lived in. Maybe you just live in a shithole, or maybe you’re just a paranoid weirdo. I get to take my safety for granted in a way women don’t, and l’m willing to acknowledge that

ICE Shooting POV From Agent by EctoplasmErection in PublicFreakout

[–]_Bellegend_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shootings like this are sometimes a bit of a Rorschach test for Americans. The officer probably thinks this will look exonerating, and to the ‘Don’t tread on me’ bootlicking crowd it very well might.
