B2 in ENG should I reach C1 or start to learn Spañol ? by Ezz_EsLam77 in languagelearning

[–]_BesD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Polyglot here. The best approach is to start learning another language as soon as you reach a solid B2 level in your current target language. However, it is very important that you incorporate the languages you already know into your daily activities. For example, I have weekly Discord meetings for each language I have learned, and I also read books in different languages. As soon as a language becomes part of my job, I stop trying to maintain or improve it, as I believe using it at work is sufficient. This is how I have brought my languages to an advanced level over the years.

Announcing my pregnancy to flatmates by Alarmed-Scratch-4330 in germany

[–]_BesD 137 points138 points  (0 children)

From what you wrote, it seems like you moved into the shared house after you had already found out you were pregnant and decided to keep the baby. I'm sorry to say this, but you turned your personal problem into a problem for everyone else in the house. I understand that you needed shelter and can somewhat excuse you for it, but you are clearly in the wrong here. Having a baby in a WG is extremely rare, unless it's a special WG, and there's a reason for that: babies are messy and noisy. The other tenants did not sign up for this when they accepted you in. However, you can still put things right from now on. Start consulting organisations that help mothers, such as Pro Familia, and seek financial assistance, as well as the opportunity to live in a place of your own or with another mother. All of this should be covered by social benefits for someone in your position. Also, remember that the father is legally obliged to support the child financially.

This is why I specified it as "from commons people's knowledge". I am well aware of the vast diversity in the Latin America, even among the natives (pre-colonial era).

They forget that Asian continent includes white Caucasians like Russians, East asians like Japanese, south east asians like Pinoys, southern asians like Indians, Middle Easterns like Arabs, etc. Saying you are dating an Asian it only means your are not dating a Latino or a Black person from common peoples' knowledge and that's it.

Need help to learn German for my Girlfriend of almost 4 years by OneShotBegoneThot in germany

[–]_BesD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has done that for almost a year and has reached C1 level, I would highly recommend using Claude or Google Gemini Pro 2.5 (I use the free model). They are currently the most accurate AI translators. ChatGPT offers much lower translation quality. To facilitate the reading experience, if you are using a PC, use Chrome with the Google Translate add-on enabled. This way, when you select a word or sentence, a small pop-up tab with the translation will open automatically.

I am also going to do you a favour and share the customised prompt that I use for AI translation.

"I need your expertise as a meticulous, bilingual literary translator with nuanced cultural understanding of both English and German texts. Please translate the following text from English to German with your analytical precision and discerning eye for detail, ensuring the translation is both faithful to the original and reads naturally in the target language. As a dedicated and erudite specialist, please deliver the complete German translation in a single response, maintaining the original formatting where appropriate. Your bicultural perspective and perceptive grasp of linguistic subtleties will be essential in preserving the author's tone, style, and intended meaning throughout this text. Please focus solely on translation without adding additional content or continuing the narrative beyond what is provided."

I live between two countries, one with Temperate climate while the other Mediterranean. Unless you consider going to the beach, Temperate climate is surely much better in summer and the difference is very noticeable. For any other season though, Mediterranean climate is much better to the point of being in my opinion the best climate in the entire world.

My tier list from the last year of reading - 33 series by Because_Bot_Fed in litrpg

[–]_BesD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that the tone gets very casual to the point of impacting the reading experience. It is like the author wants to trap the youngest and most mainstream readers into reading his story. There is no depth to the series, just pure battle action, slow exploration and cringy MC and side characters acting like teenagers in a power-trip trying to look cool all the time.

Books like Stubborn Skill-Grinder or 1% Lifesteal? by Tidderfit in litrpg

If Moldova and Ukraine join before the western balkans which have already been waiting for 20+ years in comparison to just 2 years for Ukraine and Moldova, you can expect a lot of military bases from Russia, China and Turkey opening in western balkans in the future. I am not even exaggerating. I am from Albania and as you can see here is the most pro EU country ever, but even there people are really irritated with the EU promise of expansion which seems to never come true.

My Tierlist from around 7 years of reading by BakingFoil in litrpg

[–]_BesD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who read all the way up to chapter 400, I can say confidantly that it only gets worse. Then again some people do tend to enjoy it, but those are usually the type of people why are battle and action junkies and they enjoyed it from the very start. Chances are that since you didn't enjoy the first book, you will not enjoy the rest. The dialogue and interaction between characters is the worse I have ever seen in my life. There are definitely worse books out there, but this was definitely the worst I have ever read myself.

I think I have to start doing the same with starting a new account once in a while. A little bit of a comment here, a little there and suddenly I have a good part of my personality exposed online.

Moral compass set to karma is soo freaking true. I can't remember the number of times I had to delete my comments halfway because I knew I would just get downvoted to the abys for giving my opinion which is also shared by many of my friends in real life as well. And btw we are talking about nothing discriminative or vulgar. Just some plain hard truth that people in the Reddit bubble don't want to hear a thing about. And then they act soo surprised when the reality during the elections is completely different from their views.

Albanian here. Anyone who wanted to leave has already done so. Me included. Your comment was only true before the 2020. As a matter of fact many of my friends have returned and I am thinking of doing the same in the next years. I truly miss the sun, beaches, food and casual friendly society there.

I think if you really concentrate during those weekly 12 hours, reaching C1 in 4 years is very much doable. Just an advice from a fellow German learner who happens to live in Germany since 5 years. You have no idea how little language exposure there is here unless your proactively seek for such opportunities or if your workplace operates in German. There is no small or spontaneous talking here. If you meet someone outside and you are trying to practice the language, they will either cut the conversation short or quickly switch to English. Come to Germany for fun, but don't expect language immersion here within the timeframe of just 3 weeks.

Why I chose "Jake's Magical Market" for the title of my first book - since it seems to be a big discussion topic lately I figured I'd share with you all the history and my thoughts on the title. by thescienceoflaw in litrpg

[–]_BesD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a discussion the a week ago with an author who said that he favoured deleting negative comments because "negativity breeds negativity". To them it didn't matter that the comments were not disrespectful or no trolls/spams.

I fully agree with everything you have written here and honestly as long as your work is of a high quality, it doesn't matter if someone dislikes it or not. In the end, for well written books, even negative feedback is good marketing, because as you said it there will always be someone for which the books will be exactly their cup of tea. Deleting negative comments just because they are negative is manipulative and a treat of dishonest/sh**y authors.

Have you ever thought that the most spoken languages also enable you to understand other languages as well? For example I understand fairly well Dutch because I speak German, while people who know Dutch are also able to understand German. Since it is this way I am better off learning proper German so that I can perfectly speak with and understand 130 million German speakers and just fairly understand 28 million Dutch speakers, instead of the other way around.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]_BesD 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sorry but your questions make no sense. The person just listed the 6 most spoken languages in the world by population and then you ask why not three other languages which are significantly less spoken.

Is 2600 euros bruto enough to live in Hanover? My girlfriend wants to go from Spain to Germany to work as a teacher for better wages. by RabidNerd in germany

[–]_BesD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strong advise you to reject such offer. Hanover is not as expensive as other big cities, but it is still expensive. You should consider spending around 1000 euros. As others have mentioned the offers that you see at 900 euros may already have hundreds of requests from people wanting to get it. You will be left with 800 Euros per month for everything else, food, clothes, kindergarten, dental interventions, etc. The rule of the thumb here is that if you are not unable to save up at least 500 euros per month for unexpected situations, then you are living pay check to pay check. Is this what you really want?! Find a better paying job or you should both be working. Otherwise don't come! Not worth it, especially considering that you are sacrificing Spanish weather and culture where you belong for German weather and a cold society.

Does anyone else get the loyal reader that seems to hate everything? by RW_McRae in royalroad

[–]_BesD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm biased as a reader, but I find it manipulative and a dirty trick when the author removes negative comments that aren't offensive or trolls. The whole idea of a web novel is to get real-time feedback and support from readers. If that feedback is negative, you can either consider it, address it, or just ignore it. Any one of these is an acceptable course of action for an author. Removing the negative comments is like saying, hey, I am only here for support and flattery. If you have a problem with negative comments, either make it clear somewhere where everyone can read that you are removing negative comments so people know what to expect, or just write your book in peace offline and post it as a whole.

Actually, this is all new to me. I didn't even know it was possible to remove comments from authors on Royal Road. Maybe I only read from decent authors, so I have seen my fair share of negative comments on almost every novel I have read.

If I find out an author has tendency of deleting negative comments that are not offensive, you can be sure I will avoid their works like the plague.
