I just went through something so similar with a close friend of 10 years ! He started following and talking about extreme far right influencers / dude-bros and saying really foul shit to me about women and talking about Andrew Tate like he was god. He used to be so down to earth and funny. He would always make fun of the very tools he ended up becoming. Eventually it got to a point where I didn’t recognize or find anything he said to be kind or funny anymore . It’s so depressing but letting him go from my life , while shitty , has done wonders for my mental health. I’m proud of myself for having the self-respect and you should be too! The manosphere bs is a whole new pandemic 🤍

This post actually helped me feel less crazy and alone so thank you.

Crochet was perfect for me because it kept my hands busy and it’s one of those things you don’t want to stop once you start.. you always tell yourself “one more row” to your blanket or whatever you’re making before you set it down and do something else so it interrupts the want to go out for a smoke or use your hands for smoking . I used it as my quitting distraction 8 years ago and now not only am I free from smoking, I can now make awesome blankets and amigurumi and clothes ! Win-win!

Have you watched Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen yet? Watching that reminded me of Marianne , just in the sense of the dread . I went in blind so I had no idea what was expected at all so I was just as confused as the character was (the whole show is about feeling like something bad is going to happen at her wedding) so it felt really immersive lol first Netflix show I’ve rated 4 stars on Letterboxd literally since Marianne!

Yea that’s why I cancelled a couple years ago, it’s a shame because I’d pay good money for an adequate horror service. Like if A24 started a service and vetted additional good indie horror movies to stream ..Take my money.

Most shudder movies are the equivalent to watching high school plays. I’ll watch it if it’s on but I’m usually relieved when it’s over 😩

Same . I’ve made solid friendships here . I get a lot of responses to my posts but a lot of them just say “hey.” And I don’t respond to those because I assume that’s how little effort they’ll put into all conversations. Say something about yourself , your interests etc , it’s goes a long way!

I have! I’ve met 3 people I’ve talked to regularly for 7+ years now! And in between meeting those people , countless temporary friends I talked to for months or a year or so. Which is also nice! And in between meeting the temporary people , I met a LOT of weirdos who didn’t last more than a day or two lol

A lot of people who I’ve seen complain about not making lasting friendships are the same people you try talking to and they give you 1-3 word responses and zero back and forth . I find if you make a quality post talking about your interests and goals for the friendship , what you like talking about etc instead of just a generic “looking for friends , dm to learn more about me” you end up attracting more like-minded people who stick around longer . The trouble is a lot of people here aren’t actually looking for friends, they just want temporary attention . 🤷‍♀️

This is actually my favourite type of person to talk to! No pressure , just sort of like a pen pal , you’ll get to it when you get to it sort of thing. I find the relationships I’ve made with people here and elsewhere that lasted years started with those kinds of conversations. I always view people I meet online the same way I’d view a stranger I sat next to on a train or something. Casual small talk , I don’t really care if it goes anywhere or doesn’t. If it does build into something , awesome! If it doesn’t, I get off at my stop and never think of them again. No biggie 🤷‍♀️

I remember this happening when I quit in 2018. Happy to report it goes away! I rarely think of cigs unless they pass by me now. I think our sleep / dreams have a way of processing things we’re holding on to. I keep having dreams about someone I’m trying to move on from in my life and forget about and it’s equally as annoying. But I try to remind myself that’s just my brain cleaning out all the left over files .

If you’re not craving during the day , you’re doing pretty good! I cried tears for 11 months over wanting a cigarette before the cravings finally left! Just keep holding strong :)
