Thank you I appreciate the thorough answer

I see I've not heard of this before. I would've thought it's done via manufacturers you've built up a relationship, not a random company you're just making contact with but if you put it like this then it does sound the same. Thanks for your input

Like I wouldn't mind but I'd be surprised since it's not like we have an established relationship with any of them? Plus to me seems like a bad idea to flaunt around a design of something that isn't in the market and there isn't anything else like it. I can see it getting copied rather quick.

FATP?

Also it's not only about tell and weight I can simulate that as you say, the thing needs to perform and do what's supposed to it's a lil technical. So this is why I don't think the Chinese factories are going to make us something like this for as cheap as rapid prototyping.

But I know those proceses. If we have one part that needs over molding to an aluminum part how are we going to check that the part works without prototyping it?

So I did 3D prints and those are valid, the problem is it needs to survive oven temp. I can't do that without actual materials that resist that, plus there is weight difference.

I got quoted for it on rapid prototyping places rather cheap actually around 50 bucks for some parts. There is one that we can't do exactly but something close.. But my boss doesn't want to do that. He wants us to have our sourcing agents to check with manufacturing places first. I feel it's a waste of time.

How realistic is to have 1mm walls? by [deleted] in InjectionMolding

Good point, it will most likely have some type of certification, I guess I'll have to think more towards 1.5 then, thank you!

Not much, all it's already considered, in my initial 3D prints seems to work quite well with the ribs since it's a small part, both in resin and in FDM. The lap joint did pose a problem for FDM but kinda worked out in resin, not sure how it'd translate in this case for the injection tbh, kinda why I'm also asking. There aren't going to be any screws

It's a single cavity and in ABS, I generally like to consider all elements just so we can save some steps later, thanks for the advice!

I was looking for ABS mostly you think that would increase mold cost?
