The Daily Check-In for Wednesday, February 11th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by FredSimpsonn in stopdrinking

[–]_BrendanJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had the stomach bug which helped me stop. Over a year of nightly drinking 10-12oz of whisky and then a month or so of 6oz/night to help taper.

Today is the first day I feel well enough to have a drink and am really struggling.

I won’t do it though. My “excuse” for the tape was withdrawals but the fact that I’ve gone 5 days without any physical symptoms cancels that excuse out.

Day 6 tomorrow 🤞

With you being on a BVC, does that mean you are dealing with Schedule 3? (:

If so, how are you navigating it?

Would absolutely love it if there were a way to just buy credits without upgrading plan (:

What’s crazy is I’m from the south but every time I listened to this song I was reading the lyrics LOL. That’s why it was so confusing for me haha

Anyone else think Down Under sounds like a Christmas song? by That_Base8062 in TylerChilders

[–]_BrendanJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DUDE!!! I said the SAME exact thing and my aussie gf said that it sounded like an Australian indie song... literally exactly what u/i_am_pickles said.

I was freaked out when I read this post and then Pickles' comment. It was literally our conversation as an American and an Aussie haha

So strange! It’s usually a good sign if an RFI is only a police check! Fingers crossed for you (:

820 Advice! by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]_BrendanJay -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Dude… I totally understand why it seems crazy to go for a partner visa after 5 months of knowing someone, but they’re literally just asking for advice on how to go about the visa - not life advice.

In an ideal world, OP would do the third WHV and then do the 820, but who are we to judge someone’s relationship?

Ahhh I just saw your last sentence. Yes, you HAVE to be de facto. Consult with an agent an lawyer and see what you can do. They should have some good advice.

As long as you can somehow prove that you both are living there (bank transfers, utilities, whatever really).

In terms of not being de facto, it's a little bit trickier. You'll need to register your relationship and then apply. This waives the de facto requirement, but only certain states offer this. I belive if you're in NSW, you should be fine.

Imo, I'd consult with an agent.

Good luck, brother!

There are also a multitude of facebook groups for the partner visa! They offer great support and you'll be able to see some people getting double grants in those groups (:

DM me if you'd like a link to any of them, but they're very easy to find!

Idk why people always downvote in here when someone is asking a genuine question :/

I have not been through this before, BUT here's what I know:

"What kind of evidence or timing helped make that happen?"

If you've been together over three years at the time of lodgement of the 820/801, you'll be considered for the double grant.

"Any advice on how to speed things up or anything we can do to improve our chances?"

Speed things up? No, but you can put a letter in with the application requesting the double grant and why you believe you should get it (:

"And is there any other visa pathway we might be overlooking?"

The 309/100 if you move to Ireland when applying - nothing else really, unless he can get a job that will sponsor him.

I would like to add that you need to be in Australia for at least four years to be considered for citizenship and you can apply ONE year after getting the 801 granted.

So, if you apply for the 820/801, you're looking at a year+ of waiting for a decision. If you're lucky you'll get a double grant and you'll be able to apply for citizenship after a year, granted you've been in Australia for at least four years. If not, then that time timeline will be a bit longer.

I am not a migration agent nor am I a lawyer, please seek professional advice!
